A full moon happens when the moon is directly opposite the sun from the Earth. This means that the side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear as a complete circle of light in the night sky.
As with anything in witchcraft, there are many different beliefs on what type of magick should be done during a Full Moon. Some witches believe banishing should be done. Others believe intentions should be set for manifestations. Still, others (such as myself) believe that the Full Moon is the best time for literally any spell you want because the energy is at its highest.
During the Full Moon, the Triple Goddess becomes the Mother of all beings. It’s a great time to work on intuition, spells of love, and prosperity. The Power of all Magic is truly at its peak, this lunar phase is key to either accept or reject projects, transformations, and manifestations that we initiated during the New Moon.
The Cold Moon – Northern Hemisphere
In the Northern Hemisphere, December’s Full Moon is called the Cold Moon. Depending on your location and tradition, you might also call it Frost Exploding Trees Moon, Long Night Moon, Snow Moon, or Little Spirit Moon. If you live in the north like I do, you will understand why this moon’s name is associated with all things freezing cold! December is when winter “officially” begins in the Northern Hemisphere. It is freezing, cold, and sometimes snowing! In fact, we are gearing up for a snowstorm headed our way on Tuesday!

In the Southern Hemisphere, you are approaching your warm weather season! Summer is starting for you! You may know the December Moon as the Strawberry Moon, Honey Moon, or Rose Moon. This is the time of year where the warmth is at its height and the sunshine lights up the world. Fresh fruit is in season, and the world is alive! Gemini is the twin sign of the Zodiac – two sides of the same coin. Gemini is a mutable air sign, the third of the Zodiac, and is ruled by Mercury. Just as chatty as two people can be, Gemini enjoys communication and is very sociable. With their knack for words, it is common to see a Gemini at the center of attention, keeping everyone captivated with their storytelling and speech. This is good for the Gemini as they often need constant stimulation to keep themselves engaged – Mercury plays a role here in communication, as does the element of Air. Gemini is wistful, flitting between different subjects and places that interest them. It can be difficult to hold their concentration as long, boring, and arduous tasks are uninteresting to them.

This Full Moon in Gemini brings a bright and social energy to world around us. This might mean your dark, cold night becomes more warm and friendly, or your warm summer evenings are filled with friends and fun! Gemini, ruled by Mercury, thrives on communication, curiosity, and versatility. Gemini is the sign of the storyteller, the eternal student who is always eager to learn, explore, and share ideas their with the world.
However, this mutable air sign can also bring restlessness and overthinking. It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of Gemini’s duality. This Full Moon invites us to find balance, embracing curiosity without losing our stability on the ground.

If parties aren’t your thing, you can still enjoy the social aspect of Gemini with a phone call to someone important to you – you will appreciate it as much as they will!

The flighty energy of Gemini can make you feel scattered and overwhelmed. Make sure you are taking the time to ground yourself, center your energy, and do any spiritual cleansing you feel is necessary. Keeping your energy stable will be the best way to handle the excitability of Gemini’s energy!
Remember, the energy of the Full Moon isn’t just for the one day that it reaches its peak. Personally, I give myself a three-day window for the Full Moon: the day before, the day of, and the day after. This works well for my practice and it may work for yours, too!
