It might have had something to do with the stress of waiting around for the contractors to finish your house project! Just sayin’.
Oh - oh - oh - oh - OH! That all sounds so yummy! Coconut is fabulous.
Wow - I didn’t know that. I though you were a typical early riser all the time.
I love this! Mark Henwick is my people.
That is actually very nice and a wonderful thing to do, especially at the hospital. (It would only backfire if he encountered a kid like me, though - you should ask him sometime if he’s ever been screamed out of a room!)
YUM!! All of that is making me hungry.
I like Ramon noodles, too - just too lazy to do what you do and toss the packet for something made from scratch. I love getting them at a sushi place we frequent - awesome!!
They make them in cookie form. First time I had one was on an airplane. I had to get more but my choice wasn’t as good. I need to make them from scratch.
Dressing pancakes with fruit and nuts is popular in our house. Usually we do waffles since it is easier with a waffle iron.
That is likely. The house is done but the water pipe that sank the pavement has become a significant project. It’s going on 3 weeks. They fixed the pipe but the damage was extensive and they decided to dig up the center of the road and install a drainage system (like a super french drain). Which would say whoever designed the original kinda messed up. Luckily, no one is paying for it.
Ketchup goes on a lot of things here! Potatoes, eggs, fish. I don’t, but yeah, a lot of people do. It’s almost as popular as ranch dressing!
Oh, my Dad was a reporter. Other kids got regular ghost stories growing up; I got reports on serial killers! I’ve known about Pogo since he was caught!
There used to be a whole website dedicated to what you could use for lube when writing slash fan fiction! It’s been gone for a while now, sadly. That educated a lot of people.
I love waffles too but don’t have a waffle maker I do have a Sage (I think it is known as the Breville in the US) “The Perfect Press” which you can do toasties, panini on. I would be able to do shop bought waffles but probably not as good as homemade might to have invest in one as on holiday I always get waffles and pancakes with crushed biscuit, chopped nuts, fresh fruit, drizzle of white chocolate, ice cream or sorbet. I am craving one after reading your post. I do have of fruit etc. so I could make a pancake for desert after our tea. Thanks that is sorted for tonight
They’re pretty easy to make, just takes a bit of time
4 eggs
1 liter milk
4½–5 dl flour
½ dl sugar
1 tsp salt
50 g melted butter
Mix them up in a bowl
Let rise for about half an hour
Preheat oven to 200°C
Butter up a deep baking tray and put the mix there
Bake for about 45 minutes, or until nice and brown in the surface. You might want to keep a close eye on it and turn around the tray if it starts getting heated unevenly.
Take it out of the oven, let it solidify for about half an hour, and enjoy!
It also stores well, and can be enjoyed both cold and heated up. Strawberry jam goes well with it
Those slashfics get pretty detailed, don’t they? I’ll just use my intuition and experience there. Avoiding animal products is a pretty good guideline, when they go bad they really go bad and don’t smell that great in the first place
I’m a bit confused. It seems like there has been a bit of settling going on, yet the month disappeared quickly. July has always been a sort of “hunger headache” for me. This year, if it appears, I know it’s exhaustion because of all the stuff I’ve been doing lately.
Coconut is an interesting fruit. I don’t know what to think of it. Sometimes a virgin pina colada is the richest drink I can think of, and sometimes the most bland. I have cooked with the oil, used the meat in baking or fruit mixes or eaten it straight, drunk the milk and considered it thick or thin. My understanding of coconut in my life is as hard as trying to crack the shell! I know we are supposed to knock out the “eyes” of a coconut, but even that is as hard as trying to crack open a geode. If I were forced to live on them like on Survivor, I may learn differently; but in my current position, I’d be more likely to give up. They exist, and I am grateful when I can get some, but it’s not something upon which I can rely.
I recently obtained a coconut scented foaming cleanser at Bingo and used it up. The soap didn’t seem to clean my hands well. My hands still smelled of whatever I had been doing beforehand. Not good. But I cannot blame the coconut for that.
Mom used to make haystacks. Pile a tablespoon of coconut on waxed paper then cover with melted chocolate and chill. We had some in the freezer in the basement, so I’d sneak one once in a while. Mom had no clue until she wanted one. They were gone! Sorry- not sorry. They were good! What can I say!?!? I was a baaaaad girl!
Back when Dairy Queen had another selection for Blizzards, I liked Butterfinger (chocolate coated peanut butter flavored coconut) with cherries.
I am often up before my bird.
This morning, Albus didn’t even sing to wake me unless I just didn’t hear him. Then again, he did act strangely while I was cleaning. Maybe he was upset about yesterday. I’d asked him to wake me from a nap at 10:30, but he woke me at 9:30 and acted like I was supposed to be out long before coffee clutch was to begin. He was in a hurry, and I refused to be moved. Maybe he felt like I wasn’t listening and took offense.
Meh. I have little experience with them, good or bad. Mom liked one in my youth- Emmett Kelley- and briefly collected some art based upon the real man. I guess Kelly was very popular during the Great Depression because so many people had nothing. To me, clowns are people, too. Entertainers like any actor or musician, but people. Sure, some can be dangerous, but they bring down the original intent- to draw attention away from the person who just fell off the high wire without a net.
How about that creepy clown doll in Poltergeist?
When I noticed my mopping/ enzyme chore was coming to a close, I made fried mushrooms to celebrate. This was my first time trying them- found a frozen box in Walmart. They turned out well. Usually, I bake chicken or shrimp as a higher calorie refresh after hard work.
In my youth, celebrations like good grades or personal holidays earned a trip to a favored oriental restaurant. It was odd because most people in our town went to Pizza Hut to celebrate sports victories.
Sweets, which I assume were your intent in the question, were for holidays. I often bought a bag of something for Halloween, Christmas, or Easter, and found myself finishing off the last piece a year later, so not really an issue.
If we talk of boredom snacking, I’ll just grab whatever is easy. Best not to have such things in the house. I have noticed that I get easily addicted to whatever I do out of boredom. Thus, if I sit down with popcorn for a movie at home, I’ll want to eat every time I sit in front of a movie- which is probably why I watch movies at almost every meal rather than snacking when I watch a movie. I am weening myself from boredom snacking by playing pencil puzzles while a movie plays in the background. It is easing the food issue, but increases quasar- style focus, which ignores anything outside the focus. Poor Albus takes the brunt of my ignorance. It seems I’m always seeking balance.
New potatoes are fantastic! Great choice for a treat!
I still hope that goes smoothly for you and Eric!
Yeah. What do we need horror stories for when reality is terrifying enough?!?
Been there. I remember hugging a convenient pole to wait for my stomach to settle. It was debilitating. Had to get serious meds to stop it all and then my body went the other way. However, I now can handle most things. I can eat street foods in strange places with no problem.
Yes Little Moons are so yummy as you don’t need a spoon and the Sorbets ones are only 56-58 calories, Coconut, Mango & Passion Fruit are 77-78 so not too bad for a treat. They do lots of other flavours and they are gluten free and suitable for vegetarians.
I do use simple ingredients and eat a Mediterranean Diet, fresh fruit, vegetables and cooking everything from scratch, buy organic and local if I can. In my previous profession I was a Head Chef and moved around the Country working in Hotels. However, the hours were very long and eventually I moved back to Lancashire and met my Husband. I then re-trained and became a Para-Legal in a Law Firm. My Husband loves cooking and so he has taken over he is brilliant at it and has more of a passion than me. I do advise him on sauces and ways of preparing more tricky elements. I am so lucky and he loves creating in the kitchen. I do the baking of cakes, biscuits, Yorkshire pudding, pancake mixture, dressings etc. as that is what I like to do. We work together in the kitchen
Ah thank you so much for the recipe I have taken a screenshot. I feel that somebody’s recipe is so much better. I do like strawberry and as you can cut it up my Husband can have raspberry. Happy days!
I usually can as well… I think other than gorging myself with the delicious Mediterranean treats I also overdid it on the ouzo
You’re welcome, and I agree, love learning from a living person Even better making it in the kitchen together and learning that way, but we’re all a little bit all over the world for that
Raspberry with pancakes is divine too Also a little bit of vanilla extract in the mix can be nice if you like the taste
Happy Friday, my lovelies! It’s time to relax and have some silly fun, and Fun Friday is here to help you do just that.
Here are this week’s questions:
Here in the USA, the 4th of July is celebrated as our nation’s birthday each year. It’s usually celebrated with parades and other outdoor events including picnics and of course, at nighttime, the grand finale is always the big fireworks displays.
Do you like a fireworks show? How about waving sparklers around, when you were a kid?
Have you ever worn a watch regularly - or do you still?
Do you like trains? Have you ever traveled anywhere by train?
Do you prefer to focus on one project at a time, or do you like to have a lot of balls in the air?
Today is the birthday of actor Tom Cruise! He’s the star of many huge hit movies, such as Risky Business, Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, Rain Man and many more.
Are you a fan of any of these movies - or Tom Cruise in particular?

I do love fireworks. I don’t love sparklers. If we could isolate the data, I suspect sparklers are the cause of most consumer incidents. Those little suckers are HOT! (over 2000 F).
Have you ever worn a watch regularly - or do you still?
Yep on wearing one in the past. Had to. Nope on wearing one now. I think watches are now just jewelry. So many things we carry, wear or use has accurate time, now.
Do you like trains? Have you ever traveled anywhere by train?
As Little Beavers said “You betcha Red Rider!” We used them extensively in Europe. We’ve used them for tours (popular in the mountains ). We even have them here at Middle Earth. We have a dinner train that goes through all the little towns and offers a great meal. We are considering one of the long multiple day tours through the West.
Do you prefer to focus on one project at a time, or do you like to have a lot of balls in the air?
I’m not sure I’ve had only one thing going. Does anyone? I’m jealous if that is the case!

I definitely like Tom Cruise but he has made some stinkers. I do like the Mission Impossible series. Top Gun - which had lots of mistakes in it - was still great. Same with Top Gun Maverick. There was a rumor he was going to do another one. Not sure how that will be realistic. I also liked Collateral - he was a villain in that one. Didn’t like Rain Man or Jerry Maguire.
I used to, but the last time I went, we had to go like, two hours early to get a parking space, and it took a good hour and a half to get out of there. So yeah, not anymore. They used to have them in a much better area, but they stopped, and now it’s a bottleneck.
I used to play with sparklers a little, but I could never figure out how to write my name. My dad spent too much time telling me about kids who blew off body parts with fireworks, so I was never really comfortable with them.
Nope. I wear crystal bead bracelets most of the time, now that they fit on me again.
They’re okay, but I’ve never been fascinated by them. I’ve never gone anywhere by train or even seen one in person other than coal trains.
I usually have a couple of balls in the air at a time. That way if I get bored with one, I can move to another. I’ve got three stories open on my computer right now.
Yeah, no. I’m not a fan of Tom Cruise. Not even when Top Gun first came out, and I was a kid. I haven’t seen it yet, and I don’t really want to. I saw the first Mission: Impossible, and it was okay, but that’s about the only Tom Cruise movie I’ve watched all the way through. And that was because it was hot and we went to the movie theater to cool down. Yeah, I know. I’m weird. LOL!
FYI - My lovelies, I will return with responses and my own answers soonest.
I’m in SE Michigan and we lost power last night from a storm system that blew through around 6:30 pm. The word now is we should have power restored no later than Monday night.
Hopefully it’s sooner than that! But there’s a few hundred thousand of us, so who knows?
I’m grateful that the worst of the heatwave is behind us, and my bungalow has natural gas so we have a stove top and hot water.
We ran out last night for lots of bagged ice and filled up a couple of coolers, cleared out the fridge. So it’s all okay - just kinda sticky.
Saving phone battery (we can charge in the car) so see you later!
I craved them, as long as they were safe. Last year seems to have cured me of some of that.
I went with my driver to her daughter’s boyfriend’s parents’ house last year. We had a cookout by an enclosed pool with no ladder to get out. Their awning projected mist, which felt cool at first, but increased the humidity and made us miserable in the long run. Then the men took us out front with camp chairs so we could watch them set off fireworks in the street. At first, it was nice. As the evening wore on, the men started throwing the little fireworks at each other, hitting bystanders, frightening children, and losing control so that fireworks went off under parked cars. Thankfully, the fires which were started were quickly extinguished and few clothes were destroyed.
This year, there is animosity between members of the family. I do not feel safe joining them. As soon as the sulphur hits the blood stream, it will bring out the animosity with intent to harm.
Last night, we did hear some fireworks after bedtime. I had not warned Albus because this complex is well insulated, but he seemed to remember the sounds from previous holidays and took it in stride. There was some tap dancing in the night, but no nightmares or blind flights. I usually tell Albus ahead of time that the noise is just humans having fun. He understands and is calm through the noise.
I never grew up! Sparklers are fire magic for me. I use sparklers to focus and write a wish in fire. No one follows the trail because it takes too much focus to read, and they’re paying too much attention to their own fun. Thus, it is private, hidden in plain sight.
For a while, I had a box of sparklers in my magick kit, squirrelled away for use off season for wishes. I found myself nervous every time I looked at the box, which was rare. Instead of using them, I hid them from myself, so I let them go. The nerves could have been used to empower the wishes, but I found myself running out of wishes over time. Since I knew how to make wishes come true, I reduced the wishes I had, and slowly found them not replenishing. The cost of a wish come true is the change in life experiences for the better, so I could have my cake and eat it too. I found that I didn’t need as much anymore, so I didn’t wish for much anymore. Since people around me didn’t believe in wishing anymore, either, I found myself out of practice.
I used to need a watch regularly. The bands caused rashes when they reacted with my sweat, so I took to carrying a pocket watch. Now that I have a cell phone, I don’t need to carry the extra weight.
My childhood hometown had two sets of train tracks, always busy. We lived about a block away from the southernmost track. Sometimes, if the wind was blowing right, it sounded like the train was going to drive right through our living room! We had our share of breakdowns and miracle escapes on train tracks.
I remember a time when my mother would point to empty coal cars on trains and tell me how much the economy was suffering.
The most thrilling event was when the steam train came through. I would run through back yards, across the minor highway, and through business parking lots to see the steam train! I always enjoyed the sound and surprise- so much that I bought a CD of the sounds of a steam train to blast on my jambox.
At Christmas one year, Mom took my toy train and ran the tracks around the base of the tree. That was the end of my toy train! She then made a ceramic town and kept the train as decor, saying she’d always wanted to make a room into a landscape for a train set.
We went to the conservatory whenever they had a special event just so Mom could see how they set up their toy train set. I suppose one could say that trains were Mom’s thing, and I was dragged along, but I got excited, too.
In junior high, the city repaired a steam train. We visited the museum before the repairs and were allowed to climb all over the engine. Then things got very quiet for what seemed like a long time. The next spring, Mom saw an ad for a steam train ride to a small town known for its circus. We had enough for tickets for three, so she invited my then best friend who just happened to be a boy- possibly so she could get to know him. It was a blast! We could choose an open car or air conditioning. Mom chose air. We kids stood at an open door for a short time to play and watch the world go by. When we got home, those in open cars were blackened with coal dust, and Mom was happy we were still relatively clean.
During a school trip to France, we rode trains- from Belgium to Paris and from Paris to our school home base in Bretagne. My brain is fried at the moment, so I can’t remember much, just the college kids we met on the train telling us “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
Do subways count? I always felt cramped underground. They aren’t like above ground trains. The Paris subway system was always crowded and confusing for me, though I could navigate fairly well. Couldn’t see where I was until it was too late. I did get off a sub one stop too soon, once.
I now live a block away from the train station. We don’t have the traffic backups like we did in my youth- no cattle or coal trains in the big city. The trains I hear and see are mostly passenger trains, which I have not had the chance to ride as yet (free after age 62). I wanted to take my driver and her grandson to the Wheels (Railroad) Museum, last summer, but we didn’t get the chance, and I haven’t had the money this year. Looking forward to the chance in the future.
This post is a bit scattered in time. Sorry about that. It’s tricky to put these events in order because they often didn’t have a specific date connected with them. Surprise visits from the steam train varied.
I have done both at differing times in my life. As I get older, I find I don’t have the brain power to focus on multiple projects anymore… Yet I still take breaks from movies to clean house, do pencil puzzles while watching movies, read a book only at bedtime, and get bored if I have to sit still. I guess I do more juggling than I think I do.
It depends on what he’s in. I enjoyed Far and Away and cringed at Cocktail. Top Gun was GREAT in theaters, but not so much on a smaller screen. Enjoyed Mission Impossible no matter what size of screen. Wasn’t allowed to see Rain Man until I bought it, and then I didn’t see what was so wrong with it, but it wasn’t one of my faves or anything. I couldn’t understand Oprah’s obsession with him, but I was never a hero worshipper. Still, I am grateful for his work.
Ewww! Out of power on a holiday weekend! Time to get to work Mr Lineman!
I’m glad you’re safe. Take your time… But most of all, enjoy living the old fashioned life!
