Hello (Australian exploring identity)

Hi,
I’m not yet clear on why I am exploring a witch path. Maybe I am searching for self identity and a sense of where I belong in the world.
Whether a witch path is my calling I’m still exploring. Reading and researching.
I grew up with no firm sense of where I came from. Moved a lot and no extended family to ground me to place or culture.
A few years ago I did a DNA test and discovered I have 83% North Welsh ancestry. Which sent me along a journey to learning about Wales. Which of course led to the ancient stories and woke in me memories of my grandmother having told me some as a very young child. It felt like I was reconnecting with her. I didn’t get a chance to know her well.

Welcome, @Trace and Merry Meet! I’m Feathertip, from SE Michigan. Wonderful to see you here!

This sounds fantastic! You’re well on your way. A sense of connection is vital, no matter what particular path you choose.

Take your time - there’s a lot of information here on the site. Don’t hesitate to ask questions about anything! Everyone here is kind, friendly and ready to help.

My own path is evolving since I joined here. I’ve always been a pagan, but only started studying seriously earlier this year. My favorite divination is with Lenormand cards, and I remain close to the natural world as always. I also enjoy studying spiritual beliefs.

Looking forward to seeing you around the forum! Blessed be! :raising_hands: :sparkles: :feather:

Hi!

Welcome to Spells8!

Your path of discovery is familiar. Wanting to know more than what the dogma of the world hands us is something I wanted, too. It is very enlightening to see multiple views and thought.

I’m Dan and I study belief systems. My path loosely falls under the Chaos umbrella. As such, I enjoy looking at everything. At the moment, I’m into Norse and Celtic mythology and, to augment my understanding, I do a lot of meditation.

The coven is very welcoming so jump in and enjoy everything that is offered and make some new, like minded, frends.!

Hi, @Trace! I’m Amethyst from Southern West Virginia. Welcome to the forum! :infinite_roots:

It’s lovely to have you here! I hope we can help you find your way, if only for a little while. I don’t know much about Welsh mythology, just Irish, but I have a few links, if you are interested.

If you have any questions or anything, just ask, and someone will pop up and give you a hand. I look forward to getting to know you!

Greetings from New Mexico.
Welcome @Trace.

Research is good. I’m part Welsh as well. You do not have to call yourself anything if you have not found your comfort level as yet. Feel free to ask questions and do all the research you need. There is a lot here, so take it slow and easy.

Thank you for the very warm welcome. I am learning to be still to slow down and to listen to intuition.
Learning to be able to sit with the discomfort of not knowing an answer and being at peace from within.
I am almost 60 and now ready to learn who I am without the roles I’ve played of obedient girl child, career seeker, people pleaser, wife, mother….

You’re very welcome!

Somewhere there’s a saying about how it’s the smartest people who aren’t afraid to say that they don’t have all the answers. It’s actually a nice relief from unrealistic expectations! Wanting to study on your own, and reach your own conclusions is something a lot of us are doing.

Be confident that you are in a great place here to discuss or question what you find with your research. Enjoy the journey! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :feather:

Thank you for the warm welcome and reassuring message. I am enjoying learning of the ancient beliefs and gods of my Celtic ancestors.
The more I dive in the more I can see the similarities. The ideas of male and female deities is something I intuitively know is my path.

All the Pantheons I’ve looked at have a wonderfully diverse group of people. My path welcomes such and it feels right.

Thank you for the generous welcome.

Thank you. One step at a time. Diving into ice cold water used to be the way I’d start a swim session, these days I like to get in slowly (plus I wait until later in the year, when the water is warmer!

From what I’ve read there is a lot in common. The Irish frequently invaded Wales and the noble families married into each other. Both are Celtic and fiercely independent of the Roman invasion.
I would appreciate any links you can share. I’m totally fascinated and rather proud to be a descendant of such independent people.
My mum is in her late 70s and I’ve been talking to her, she actually does know a lot about her Welsh heritage. She never spoke about it, maybe she took for granted that I knew and didn’t realise it was something I wanted to know.
It does make me more conscious now about ensuring I explicitly pass on my knowledge to my own children.

Thank you for welcoming me.

Have you maintained any connections to your Welsh heritage?

After my Mom died, I realized that there was a lot about her I didn’t know. I even had a mystery cousin pop out of the woodwork for a while and then disappear again. So get whatever stories you can now, record them or something. They’ll be precious to you later!

I have a few links for you.

Hello @Trace,

Don’t mind me jumping on the welcome wagon - it’s very nice to meet you, Trace! I’m Bry, an Eclectic Witch and one of the moderators. I hope you’ve been finding lots of resources and everything you’ve been looking for :books: :mage:

That’s very exciting! DNA tests can open so many doors and connections. I’m glad you were able to pursue your ancestry and connect with the memories of your grandmother. I hope you continue to find exciting new discoveries

Please know that you are very welcome here  Everyone in the coven community walks their own unique path, but the journey is a lot more fun when we have a space to come together. I think an online coven is a happy balance between the freedom of a solitary practice and a supportive community. I hope you make yourself at home here!

Blessed be and happy sabbat! :sparkles:

It has been a bit tricky. There isn’t much available in my area. However, I did experience eye shaped clouds in a storm back in Indiana in the 1990’s and had a nice chat with the Welsh god of storms and psychopomp Gwynn ap Nudd. The original story I heard about him was not as honorable as the research @MeganB offered. Can’t seem to find it again. From the search engine, it looks like I’m the only one who talks about Gwynn.

Thanks for the links, @Amethyst !
