I’ve never heard of this mineral before so I did some digging :joy:

Painite is named after the person who found it, Arthur C.D. Pain. He originally misidentified it as a ruby, but it was determined to be something else entirely in the 1950s. The Wikipedia page says because of its rarity, “painite can cost between US$50,000 to $60,000 per carat.” (Painite - Wikipedia)

The mineral’s rarity is due to zirconium and boron rarely interacting with each other in nature…Until late 2004, only two had been cut into faceted gemstones. - (Painite - Wikipedia)
