Juniper berry substitute

Merry meet! I was intending on making Four Thieves oil/vinegar today but I can’t get my hands on dried juniper berries. Is there an acceptable replacement or should I just bite it, order some, & wait till after holidays?
Thankful always

Please do not take my word as being gospel by any means! But I do believe you can substitute Juniper Berry for Rosemary or Pine Wood. I’ve also heard Caraway Seeds or Cardamom, but I’m less sure in regards to these.

I hope that helps!

This totally depends on the purpose of the oil/vinegar. If it’s to be ingested, I would make sure that the ingredients match the mundane purpose as well as the magical one. I know Juniper Berries aren’t just a magical ingredient. You can usually find them in the baking aisle of many grocery stores. Even my local grocery stores usually carry them

Both are for ingesting. It looks like between cardamon & caraway, they cover all the bases.

Thank you, @MeganB & @TheDarkestDesire ! I’ll let ya know how it turns out. This is the recipe, btw

@Shine bc its for 4 thieves vinegar, regardless of the reason for use an acceptable substitute is black pepper.

Everything else stated in the other comments are also acceptable.

Thank you, everyone. I decided to order and wait. I’ll try it the recipes way first then see what I think from there.

Everyone has offered really smart and solid advice, so I’m going to be the naughty witch and say you could potentially use Gin (alcohol made from juniper berries) :grinning: :clinking_glasses:

Wishing you all the best with crafting your 4 Thieves Vinegar, @Shine- I can’t wait to hear how it comes out!:two_hearts:
