Magick Gardens 2025

To celebrate National Gardening Day yesterday, I chanced upon a plant sale and got a few herbs and peppers for my garden!

English Thyme, Dill, Mexican Tarragon, Chili Red Hot Peppers, Thai Hot Peppers, and Yellow Bell Peppers. Pro-tip: I always look for containers with multiple plants. They might be smaller than if there was just 1, but you’re getting more for the $.

I have to get out and run today, but plan to get these beauties in the ground this afternoon!

I finally got my herbs & veggies in their makeshift greenhouses. I still have some more to do, but really need to pace myself more

I got the rest of my current treasures with a coat of mineral oil. So they are hanging out for a couple of hours to have the other sides done.

Oh, how funny, I think I bought those same seed starter cups this year! They worked wonderfully for me and were already starting to break down when I planted my seedlings into the garden!

Very clever seed starter! I will have to remember that next time if I expand my starters.

Go, seeds, go…er grow! :seedling:

The little peat cups were so adorable! The greenhouse is actually a storage case for either scrapbook paper or vinyl that I use in my Cricut. I may go see if I have another 1 because I still have so much to start… The circle greenhouses on the window sill are from my husbands work. When he orders… some kind of tape, they come in those containers & he saves them for germinating seeds. We use a piece of paper towel & a little water.

Now I have paper towel & bathroom tissue cardboard rolls that I am going to cut up & use instead of the little cups. I ran out

I didn’t even see those!! Another clever use of something you already have.

I separated the pots that had multiple plants, got them all planted, fertilized the garden and watered.

Yay! Oh thank you! I didn’t get to starting anymore seeds yet. Today is weird already for me and I’ve been up since way too early. I do have an appointment this AM and then I will venture downstairs for a couple of things so I can finish making the planters and decide if I want to make a suncatcher or not

Ooo… today is super sunny & very nice out! So I did a thing. I was using the tray from my pupper’s very 1st crate (when she was 19 pounds) to do my ocean treasures & move all of them easily.

Today its so very sunny, I got the rest of the little crate & put it together with the tray in it. Put my little greenhouses inside & put it outside on a black board cover to a barrel. Now they will get all kinds of sun today & nothing can bother them!

Theres another piece that goes to it & I’m pretty sure I can make a shelf of some kind to put more little greenhouses in it. Now to find more things to use as greenhouses

I’m still in the cold and dying to get planting. But there are some signs of life around here:

Snowdrops (planted 15 last fall, so far 6 are up)

Rhubarb is up (and actually has grown even more than this pic)

And my violets have spread themselves around Dennis’ memorial garden and started flowering for me:

My yarrow is growing quickly, about half the hostas are just poking their heads above ground (thinking of trying to eat some shoots this year-the flowers are delicious). The Speedwell and sedum have leaves coming up. Everything else is still sleeping and I have a bunch of plants I ordered that got shipped to me too early that need to go in the ground. I think I’m going to try planting them starting tomorrow since the overnight temp will be in the 40s.

LOVE seeing everyone’s garden pictures!

Can’t believe I missed this thread! Don’t have time right now, but am coming back to browse and join in myself

Spent some time outside for the group ritual today and sat by my gardens.

I’m jealous of the warmer locations @Artemisia  It’s been in the mid-40s here. Today is barely over 50 degrees. So when I saw that it was sunny with no rain & tiny clouds, plus I had the black tray… I looked at the crate & put it together to keep them safe. Then around 3 I’ll put them back in the window

I found myself back at the beach today to look for more treasures, so I can use them to make a little ledge and a kind of stand for the conch shells. Then they won’t rock or sit awkwardly when I put them in there.
I understand entirely @veronica1. Outside, the grass is greening up, and we can see little signs of life emerging too. But just barely popping through right now.

I adore snowdrops :white_heart: Seeing new growth and flowers is always wonderful and lightens my heart!

After living half my life in the northern part of the US, I understand completely! I was always itching for spring to get here and things to grow when I lived up North. Also, to be fair, we did have a freeze watch last night, so I had to cover some of my tender plants again. Apparently, we’re not out of the “winter” woods yet. I just hope we don’t go straight into the upper 90s next week  I’m happy with highs in the 60s for a while!

And I’ll just add I’m jealous of your being able to beach comb for shells so easily! Honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to do.

I suppose it’s wonderful that we are getting outside, no matter what we are working on! :spiral_shell: :herb:

Oh today was quite the adventure… During my beach walk in 50 degree weather barefoot… I put my phone down in the sand & then continued on collecting treasures… Another person walking on the beach & I crossed paths. We stopped to chat & he asked me if I had been at the beach for a bit because he found a phone in the sand by the jetty! It was my phone! I had put it down to take off my Crocs then use them to hold my treasures for my conch shell planters

You have mugwort!!! And it looks so green and healthy and gorgeous! I am determined to get some of that for my garden this year. But no one local will sell it. So I will have to forage for some and if that doesn’t work, I may try and grow some from seed. But starting stuff from seeds is not my strong suit.

You are about a month or so ahead of me garden-wise. My lily of the valley won’t be up until end of may and flowering in June.

So keep posting pictures and I can imagine that my garden is already there

So I forgot to post the treasures I found today for my succulent planters from conch shells! Of course now I have to clean & rinse these then coat them a couple of times before I can put them on… So that buys me time to find my things dow stairs.

Same beach that I went to before to get treasues :face_with_hand_over_mouth: I found a pretty nice sized piece of green sea glass too!

I found more ways to make little greenhouses & a way to make the crate it’s own little green house with a shelf!
Plus using my sons hockey net for the beans, cucumber, & such to climb from their buckets.

Your jealous of our warm weather (we had a high of 88 yesterday), I’m jealous of your beach! I could sit out there all day and just take in the beauty of it!

@Ostara, my brother called me yesterday… He lives in the south now… He goes… “So I’m not going to tell you about how beautiful it was without humidity here.” I told him to shush because when my daughter graduates, we’re heading to warmer weather

I’m going to clean my treasures today and then put mineral oil on them… I have a lot of shells and other things, so I can make a stand with them. I have no idea what I’m going to do with all the mermaid scales and jingle shells… But they are soooo pretty & sound pretty… So they will probably be some part of a decoration or something I use in my practice somehow. I’ve got to think on that one

Yesterday, during a dust storm, I found yellow pear tomato to plant. It requires 6 hours of sun a day. I’m lucky if my balcony gets a half hour the longest day of the year, but I’ll try it. It needs a bigger pot and a cage to grow on, but I don’t have them, yet.

I bought lavender seeds and put them in a pot, last night. They need a better soaking.

My little corner of table by the living room window is crowded, now. There are two hyacinth pots on it as well. Albus has been nibbling millet sprouts, so I don’t dare bring any other plants into the bedroom- for his safety as well as theirs.

I do still have some lettuce seeds. Last time I planted a few, they didn’t even sprout that I know of. I kept them in a plastic bag to keep in the warmth and humidity and put them atop the refrigerator, but the kitchen doesn’t get light at all. Thus, the lavender is staying by the window. There’s no sun, but at least there is some reflected light from the car sales place next door.

Oooo no! So glad that someone else found and it and even more thankful that you ran into the persons who found it! Whew

My Mugwort is going on its second year. I started mine from seed indoors and transplanted it. I remember my mom’s adage about perienniels - First year, sleep. Second year, creep. Third year, leap. The mugwort and the absinthe already look bigger and better than last year. Very exciting!

100% this. The past two days have been 70s/low 80s with almost no humidity. It’s a rareity for sure and I’m soaking it up as long as it lasts because summer will be brutal as usual. In the meantime, I’m going to soak up the sun :musical_notes:

Oh I bet lavender would do well there! Certain types grow well here, but I don’t have any area in my yard with full sun, so I’ll just have to enjoy the May/June open houses of the lavender farms :hyacinth:

I finally did it, I bought 2 different kinds of lavender and spent 90 minutes digging in our ridiculously rocky soil in the front bed but got them planted. I’d been putting it off for the past couple of years knowing it’d be tough digging, but apparently today was the day to do it!

I’ll get better photos tomorrow after they’ve had a chance to perk back up.
