Hey all, I wasn’t sure where to post this. Sorry if it’s in the wrong group. But I was just curious how many guys in this group paint their nails. I’m also curious about what women think. I’m gay, but I’m still curious about opinions,
lol
I guess my opinion is ‘meh’.
I’ve seen younger males paint their nails and sometimes figured they were just making a statement… not sure what statement but it didn’t seem to matter. Maybe they just liked it. Our bank teller likes to paint his nails - I know him and I prefer him since he is really good. I don’t think nail color comes into it at all.
It is so much different now than it was. My sister painted my toe nails when I was young and my gym class became a nightmare. Today, no one would blink.
So… I think painted nails on men have become a minor data point in the great scream of things.
First of all @bryce, good to see you, second… you paint nails better than I do!
I agree with @dan3, in my limited experience it’s not as big of a deal as it once was. I’ve known gay and straight men who painted their nails, neither got any slack for it that I know of - I personally see it the same way I would on any other person, an expression of creativity.

Whatever takes your fancy love, I follow Loki and he/she/it/they is all about self-expression
I watch Critical Role on Youtube - they are voice actors that play Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. Out of the 5 men on the show, 3 of them often paint their nails. Two are married (to women). I’ve been watching the show for years now, and I only pay attention when they paint them a new color or don’t have them painted.
Edit to add: I’m a woman and rarely, if ever, paint my fingernails. In the summer I do my toes in sparkly polish.
Hi!! Good to see you!!
Honestly, my opinion is that I’m jealous of how well you paint them. I end up painting half my finger, and then half an hour later, all the paint has fallen off my nail, haha.
Anyways, I think it’s very common now to see men (gay and straight) with painted nails, so, copying the answer to @dan3 and say “meh”.
The most important thing is you, your opinion and that you feel comfortable wearing them painted. I think they suit you very well
By the way, you have beautiful hands
You do what makes you happy. Im male and dont paint, but If you want to express yourself through painting your nails then go for it! Do what feels right and don’t worry about what others think.
It’s all about self expression. If you’re happy with it and it looks good, go for it! Some people will get nasty about it probably, but they’re probably idiots. LOL!

Think Scotland, they painted their bodiies. Men get tattoos all the time.
How one decorates their body or not is a personal decision.
Do as you want, it’s your body.

If it makes you feel good, then good on ya. You do you boo
Thanks for the replies everyone, glad to see I have a good mix of opinions. Been feeling more comfortable with my sexuality so its encouraged me to experiment more. I really enjoyed our conversation wearing nail polish, and nobody at the office seems to care so definitely a win!
Looks cute to me!
I love when people openly break gender stereotypes. Makes me feel safer as a trans woman.
Well let me say this, I paint mine all the time Black or Dark Gray. I am not gay or anything just my way of expression to my craft and what i am. I also wear a lot of silver jewelry both Witchy and Nordic. Sure i get strange looks but i will try not to have any conformations about it . After all i can get pretty nasty if pushed too much. Anyway Kudo’s to you i thought i was the only one who does this. )*(
I have a friend who is a guitarist, and he used to paint his nails before a show - and oftentimes just left it on for a day or two before getting around to removing it. This was many years ago. No one batted an eye.
I think whatever you like the looks of on your own body should be the deciding factor. It’s easy to feel self-conscious if you’re uncertain. If you walk around feeling confident and comfortable, that’s what people will pick up on.
Go for it!
Black fingernails make me think of the goth fad from a few years back. Some of the outfits were quite beautiful.
On guys? Hey, your comfort is key. Express yourself and to blazes with dissenters! I just bought a teen boy a necklace of birthstone beads. No judgement, here. He’s always trying to make me laugh by tossing on a boa, pasting on fake nails, or holding up a prom dress while shopping, and I treasure the fun we share. He gets in trouble for it at home, but there doesn’t seem to be any depth of meaning to it right now.
I don’t paint because I’m not steady enough and because the paint feels funny when I try to pick things up. I used to when I was young, though- mostly in the family of paint the finger and the nail is unpainted in an hour or so.
May I ask what you feel painting nails means to you? Just curious.
There have been some great points raised (and cheers to @Artemisia, because I was also going to mention Matt Mercer and the Crit Role crew! ) but I did just want to add in that gender roles and expectations can vary greatly by culture and physical location.
I spent a lot of time in Asia (South Korea and Japan in particular) where it’s not only common, but often expected for men to wear makeup. Both on TV and on the street, there were men wearing foundation, concealer, eyeliner, mascara, etc. Most of the beauty stores catered to everyone - they weren’t really separated into “mens” and “womens” areas, or at least not as much as they separate things here in the US. It was surprising at first for me, but then it quickly became the new norm. Now I raise an eyebrow when I see two of what is basically the same beauty product split into pink and black versions (with one being significantly more expensive lol).
All that is to say, social expectations come and go like the seasons and can vary greatly depending on where you are and who you’re with. At the end of the day, it’s you and your personal happiness that truly matters. Do what brings you joy
I love when men have painted nails! I think it is a fabulous and creative way to express themselves. I’m female and don’t paint mine because they always look so horrible when I’m done. Instead, I glue on a set of fake nails if I want to have polished nails lol.
You’re nails look amazing and I say paint away!
Thank you, I am very happy I can help you feel safe! You absolutely belong in this world friend!
It gives me a sense of freedom and self-expression I didn’t have as a kid or teen. I wouldn’t have been brave enough to do this back in the day. I’m through trying to live up to people’s expectations, if I live up to mine that’s enough for me!
I really love to see guys with painted nails! I find it viril! I don’t think it feminizes anything, and to me, it means something like « I don’t wanna fit in your sick society codes, just let me be! ». (Ok, I’m still a punk in my heart!)
My son (27yo, ingeneer in AI and he is in domonolatry) often paints his nails in black, or with different colors for sabbats. His colleagues and bosses don’t mind at all.
As many already told you @bryce , your nails are perfectly painted! I’d like to have your talent and dexterity!
Just be yourself and be happy!
Blessed be!
