Protection for delivering bad news

Someone has to deliver news of layoffs in the new year. What kind of talisman can I create to protect and support them? Can anyone offer advice or actions? Thank you

Welcome @astrid!

You are correct. People tend to punish the delivery person rather than the ones who made the decisions. I honor your idea to protect them.

If you have a specific person in mind, you could bless something they may wear while making the deliveries.

If you’d prefer to protect all delivery people, imagine a protective light surrounding them like a snow globe. This can be any color or mix of colors you like.

I also use a protective dome, but I make mine a mirror.

@georgia has given you some wonderful suggestions, here’s another you may like.

Firstly, Hello @astrid welcome. I’m Tracy. Thinking on offering protection to others, you can send them a rune.

:algiz:

This is the rune for protection.

Here’s a simple ritual.

With water draw the rune onto both of your inner wrists.

Place your wrists together making your hands into a V shape, hands straight.

Blow through the V of your hands, as you blow, visualise and/or say the name of the person you wish to protect.

Your body is forming the shape of the rune, your breath through the V centre is the centre piece of the rune’s shape. You become the energy of :algiz: enabling you to share it.

That’s it.

Thank you for the great ideas! They have to start delivering bad news mid January and then survive the backlash through March. I’ve been the dumpee but never the dumper. I imagine the guilt is tremendous as well as being a target of a whole lot of negativity. Just thinking that maybe some sort of tea blend would also work to support them ….

For tea rituals I’ll tag in @BryWisteria our tea ritual master. :green_heart:

@Amethyst Thank you for the Welcome. Thank goodness it is not for me, I’m self-employed. If I have to lay someone off ….

Merry meet @astrid,

Welcome to the forum!

Aww shucks, you’re very kind, Tracy! I wouldn’t claim to be a tea ritual master, but I do love a good blend of tea - here are a few that might be used or adapted.

Protective tea:

Teas to help with stress/negative energy/difficult situations:

It’s a role no one would want to have to do, and I think you’re very kind to help the one who has to pass along the bad news. There are some great suggestions for protective magick shared by others, so I hope you’re able to find the perfect thing to use or adapt!

Good luck and blessed be  :candle:

Welcome and Merry Meet, Astrid!

That’s such a compassionate question to ask. :herb:
Being the bearer of news like that is heavy work and wanting to protect and support the person delivering it already speaks to a lot of care and integrity.

From a slightly witchy, very human place, I’d suggest focusing less on shielding from emotion and more on grounding, clarity, and compassion. This isn’t about hardening their heart — it’s about helping them stay centered while doing something difficult but necessary.

Here are a few gentle, ethical ideas that I’ve collected in my BoS:

“Protection for Other People”

A grounding talisman
Something small and discreet they can keep on them. A stone like smoky quartz, black tourmaline, or hematite works well for absorbing emotional heaviness without amplifying it. Cleanse it with intention and ask it to help them stay steady, present, and protected from carrying what isn’t theirs to carry.

A compassion-focused charm
You might add a symbol or herb associated with empathy and clear communication — lavender for calm, blue lace agate for gentle speech, or rosemary for strength with integrity. The intention here is: May I speak truth with kindness and leave each interaction with my spirit intact.

A ritual for release, not control
Encourage them to have a small end-of-day ritual — washing hands with warm water and salt, lighting a candle and naming what is not theirs to hold, or even a simple breath practice. This helps prevent emotional residue from settling in the body.

Language as magic
Remind them that how they hold themselves matters. Quiet grounding phrases like:
“I am delivering information, not causing harm.”
“I can be compassionate without absorbing pain.”
These are powerful forms of spell work in real life.

Most importantly, this is one of those moments where magic walks hand-in-hand with humanity. A talisman can support them, but permission to feel, rest, and decompress afterward is just as vital. I’ve been there, unfortunately.

It’s really beautiful that you’re thinking about this with such care. That, in itself, is protective magic. :sparkles:

Blessed Be :herb: :dizzy:
