Well you made it. Wise move first class where I am they are really old only two carriages when I used to travel to work I could never get a seat and had to stand. Hoping your Husband is enjoying seeing the sights. You will both be ready for the rest and your knees when you get to your Hotel.
Ah little spirt bear is guarding the Scottish goodies. Looking forward to your next update and glad the weather is holding for you. It will be a lot cooler which might be nice as you have been baking in the South. Wishing you both a good time in Scotland.

We spent the morning strolling along the Royal Mile. Lots of shops to explore when we get back from our tour of the Highlands. For today, we soaked up the atmosphere, with coffee and cookies while listening to a bagpiper.

Yayyy! So glad you’re there and the stress of the travel is done.
(Quick note: a similar thing happened to us in London at the St Pancras International when we took the Eurostar to Paris last year. The escalator was out and all passengers were dragging or pushing their luggage up to reach the train - including us, and me with my crap knees! We had NOT opted for top tier seating, it was the middle option of the 3. Never again, that’s not the time or place to save a buck when you need help!)

After our little bus tour of the Highlands we have two full days back in Edinburgh so we will certainly try to see the Museum of Witchcraft. How could I not?

Yes, on one of our earlier trips we found out the hard way. We had to wait at Reading while three full trains came and went. Finally a member of the station staff took pity on us, as I was standing waiting with my rollator. She led us to the first class carriage and found us a couple of seats.
So for this trip we went first class, just getting from one train to the other was the problem because of the broken elevator

Exactly! I hope it’s as amazing and fun as it sounds - lots of interesting things should be in there.
Yep, lesson learned! Even with broken elevators, going first class will generally have help available when you need to be guided someplace. Smart decision, especially for a trip this long involving so much moving about.

Reading is a very busy station. Glad you got some help. Thank you for sharing your latest photographs. The sound of bagpipes is so moving. I also could not resist having a look at the Museum of Witchcraft. I will see if they have a website as I am intrigued.
My heritage is part Scottish and my Clan is McDonald from the Highlands. Do you have a clan? as if you do it is a good place to pick up something.
Oh I forgot to mention how was Katie’s 19th Birthday (sorry if I have got her name wrong) hoping you all had a good celebration.

If I recall, our family goes back to the MacInnes/McInnes clan. At least my dad says that is our tartan.
Katie’s birthday went well. She took us out and about in the day and we treated her and a friend to dinner at a nice restaurant. It was Sunday, so we all ended up having a Sunday roast. Then back to Katie’s for more wine

I love the Hunting Modern. I think that’s my favorite. When are back in Edinburgh I’ll have to see if I can find a scarf or something in that
Today we drove through some of the Highlands, and specifically Glencoe on our way to the fishing town of Oban. Our room at the guest house looks out over the harbor.
Tomorrow we are up at oh-dark thirty for a trip over to the Isle of Skye.

@Greenbriar I thought a scarf too as you could wear it and when you do it would bring lovely memories of your vacation plus it would be lovely and warm the quality is exceptional and you will know it is genuine.
The photographs are breathtaking, so peaceful and the mist looking through the valley reminds of “as above so below” as I feel you could disappear between worlds.
Another bagpiper how lovely. I am glad the weather has been good so you could see the hills at their best.

Today’s journey across Scotland took us from Oban, where we stayed last night, across to the Isle of Skye. It included various stops and some great commentary and folklore stories from our guide/driver, and a train ride across the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by Harry Potter. The weather was overcast and cooler, giving the land a more mystical look that you kind of expect of Scotland

What a brilliant experience and it is good to have someone who knows the Scottish Forklore. I did not know that the Glenfinnan Viaduct was linked to Harry Potter so I have learnt something new. The castle and the change in weather does look magical and a different feeling which is nice to see beautiful.
Little spirt bear looks like he is chilling in good company waiting for your return. Enjoy your evening.
