Runes introduction for my BOS - Suggestions Welcome :)

Greetings, beautiful souls,
I’ve recently been diving deeper into the study of runes and have created some reference pages for my BOS. I would love to invite everyone to take a look and share any suggestions — if you feel I’ve missed something or have ideas for additions, your insights would be most welcome.

Thank you so much for your guidance and wisdom.

Blessed be,
Rayven

Hello @Rayven,

Your rune BoS pages look lovely! I’m not a rune expert myself so I’m afraid I can’t help much there, but in terms of appearance, I really like the organized charts and the pretty decor around the edges. It looks so elegant! :sparkles:

Your pages look wonderful! @tracyS is our rune expert. I know she is busy with studies right now but I have tagged her in and hopefully when she has a spare moment she can have a look and give some suggestions.

Thankyou @Mystique :green_heart:

OK had a brief look at it. I’m in the middle of a rune course, how ironic.:grin: It’s very nice. Depending on your target audience will depend on the information you put in your guide.

If it’s a neopagan audience this is wonderful, however if your audience is for the Heathens/Nordic practitioners then it gets a little tricky. There’s alot of traditionists and they are sticklers for rules. Things like bind runes, divination spreads (as opposed to just casting) , astrological references, herbal and other correspondences, reversals are modern additions and not all Heathens agree on these. :person_shrugging: (if we agree on anything it’s a miracle ).

The casting cloth is a lovely addition, I like your design, again it would suit a neopagan audience but Heathens/Nordic practioners just use a plain white cloth, or they’ll use references to the 9 worlds and Yggdrasil.

I think you’ve done an amazing job, well done. If you want to remake another guide for a more Nordic Heathen audience here’s a few links, but this one would suit a modern audience that has a background in wicca or tarot and who knows, from reading your guide they may want to explore deeper with the runes.

If you plan to use Galdr you may enjoy this.

It goes without saying that you need to know the gods to work with their runes, that’s the energy you’re pulling in. This post has most of what you need. Or buy a Neil Gaiman book

Oh and avoid AI for researching runes, it gets alot wrong. There’s good books and YouTube channels that if you want a list, let me know. :green_heart:

Thank you so much :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: @tracyS , @Mystique & @BryWisteria
That’s all been such a helpful perspective, and I really appreciate you taking the time, and kind words to share your thoughts and resources.

I was raised more within a Neopagan practice, but lately guess kinda always  I’ve been feeling more and more drawn to the Nordic path — my Aunty is a Nordic practitioner, so I think that’s where the spark first began.
I do completely agree, the Heathen/Nordic path carries such deep tradition, and I can see how some modern additions don’t always fit within that space. I’d love to create another reference page with more of a Heathen focus as a way to honour that path as well.
Since I’ve only just reconnected with my practice after some time away, and my current deities have been a little quiet with me lately  it feels like the perfect moment to explore and see where my spirit is truly being called.
Thank you again for the guidance, links, and encouragement — it means a lot. I’ll definitely be taking a closer look and diving deeper.

Why not use your runes to help find that. They may pull in Nordic energy, (or Northern energy if you want to use a modern terminology, like calling spells programs at the end of the day. When you study the myths, as I’ve been taught, it’s more to understand the energy you’re working with as represented by the god if that makes sense. ) but the runes speak to Spirit, any Spirit, they might be able to help you see if any new spirits are trying to make contact. I find when a current deity goes quiet it’s normally because they have taken you to your new destination, now you’re at the station, it’s time to board your next train. Spirit all work together, regardless of tradition (at least that’s what Mystics teach), so you can blend practices (traditionists would shoot me for saying this too ), but one thing I’ve learnt in my studies with the runes, is those runes are independent little spirits that do as they please. :joy::green_heart:
