Spell Pouch for a Loved One's Safe Passage through Surgery

Eric is going in for outpatient heart surgery next week and I wanted to create a spell pouch for him. When I consulted with Co-Pilot, it made it clear that it wouldn’t give medical advice or anything meant to replace the care of his surgical team. Instead, what it offered was a spell pouch crafted for *my* steadiness, my sense of connection, and the protective, watchful love I’ll be carrying into the waiting room. It will be magic that supports me, so I can hold him in clarity and calm while he’s in their hands.

:herb: Spell Pouch for His Safe Passage Through Surgery

This pouch is designed to hold three energies at once: protection, guidance, and your steady presence.

You will need (adapt freely):

  • A small pouch (cloth, leather, or even a folded handkerchief)

  • A pinch of salt (purification, warding)

  • A small piece of hematite or obsidian (grounding, protection)

  • A sprig or pinch of rosemary (health, clarity, safeguarding)

  • A bit of chamomile or lavender (calm for you, gentle energy for him)

  • A slip of paper and pen

If you prefer runes, Algiz (protection) or Eihwaz (endurance, safe passage) are beautiful additions.

I created this Bindrune with the two runes, and will include it in the pouch.

:sparkles: The Ritual

1. Center yourself

Sit somewhere quiet.

Place your hand over your heart.

Take three slow breaths, imagining your breath widening the space inside you.

You’re not calling power to you — you’re awakening what’s already there.

2. Write your intention

On the slip of paper, write a single, steadying line such as:

  • “He is held in protection and guided hands.”

  • “May he move through this safely and return to me in strength.”

  • “Light surrounds him; skill guides those who care for him.”

Fold the paper away from you, sending the intention outward toward him.

3. Build the pouch

As you add each item, speak its purpose softly:

  • Salt: “Nothing harmful may cross this threshold.

  • Hematite/Obsidian: “He is shielded and steady.

  • Rosemary: “Health and clarity surround him.

  • Chamomile/Lavender: “Calm flows through me as I wait.

  • Paper: “This is my prayer carried on the breath of love.

If using a rune, trace it over the pouch with your finger.

4. Seal it

Hold the pouch between your palms.

Imagine a warm, steady light filling it — not dramatic, just a quiet glow.

Then speak the prayer below.

:candle: A Short Prayer for His Safe Passage

Guardians of the threshold and the healing path,

Stand beside him as he sleeps.

Guide the hands that care for him,

Steady the hearts that love him,

And carry him safely through this moment.

Let protection surround him,

Let peace surround me,

And let us meet again in health and gratitude.

So mote it be.

:crescent_moon: How to Use It

Keep the pouch:

  • in your pocket

  • in your bag

  • or held in your hands while you wait

Whenever fear rises, touch it.

Let it remind you that love travels farther than any distance, even into the places you cannot go.

Brilliant!

The doctors wouldn’t allow him to have anything in surgery. Since he will be under anesthesia, stress sits with those who are operating and those in the waiting room. Loved ones need the comfort and support.

Doctors and nurses need the guidance, patience, and precision for the detailed work they have to do. Why not make a spell bag or jar for them, too?

Hoping for the best possible outcome for Eric!

Thank you Georgia.

I might do a separate one for his medical team, but really I have them covered with this one too.

My intention: “He is held in protection and guided hands” and/or “Light surrounds him; skill guides those who care for him”

Plus in the prayer I have included: “guide the hands that care for him”

I’m echoing others - that bindrune is awesome! It looks like a key to calmness and stability :old_key::blush:

Thanks everyone. On another note, remember the seven vials of blood I had drawn for testing last week?

Well, apparently the lab missed two of the tests and I need to go in and have more blood drawn!!!

I just saw this. I didn’t realize Eric was having a procedure done on his heart, when you mentioned in the weekly news about his procedure. Sending love and light to you and Eric and praying everything goes well!:folded_hands:

Man! I hate it when stuff like that happens. Take some cookies or a bottle of juice with you next time, in case they end up taking too much. Drink plenty of fluids.

No way!! I think I might be fuming a bit over that - either the lab “missed” the tests, or someone at the ordering physician’s office didn’t get it all written down on the req form.

Either way - boo! So sorry you have to go back over there with everything else you have going on. :hugs:

I agree with @Amethyst - carry a small juice bottle with you this time, it might help you rally quicker!

Best wishes for you both while going through your health issues.

Thanks @Ostara I think I actually didn’t mention it was a procedure on his heart the first time I mentioned it - so don’t worry about missing it!

Thank the Goddess we have Kelsey Rides available to us - our driver will be picking us up at 4:30 a.m. to get us to the Medical Center by 6 am check in!!!

Oh and I had fun today - I went over to the closest Kelsey to get the labs drawn, only to discover that she had neglected to mention on the phone that these are specialized tests and only certain locations can do them.

So then I got a ride over to the clinic I went to last week, as their lab could do the test. But they didn’t have the order! I ended up going upstairs to the 4th floor and talking with Dr Samra’s nurse (who said she could see the orders in her system but the lab couldn’t see them).

We think that somehow, the first lab I had gone to had possibly left the record of the orders open on their end, which is why the other lab couldn’t see it, but the nurse could.

In the end Dr. Samra just wrote new orders and I was able to get the blood drawn. This is for oncology testing, so I’m hoping he’s just erring on the side of caution and wanting to rule certain things out before making his diagnosis.

So what with all that, and Eric’s procedure tomorrow, I’m in high anxiety mode.

Here’s sending good vibes on your blood tests and Eric’s procedure!

I feel you with the anxiety mode. We just need to breathe, just breathe. I’m breathing through my daughter in laws pain right now.

What a circus! I’m so sorry you’re going through all this.

It still blows my mind that these various facilities can’t connect their software with mutual patient’s records! That would have made everyone’s life easier today.

You’ll be up before the chickens! I hope you get a good night’s sleep after this stressful day.

Again, best wishes for Eric!
