Currently I have been learning Tarot card reading, and I have a pendulum (I’m learning this as well), and I’m interested in Runes. At what point can a person spread themselves too thin from practicing different forms of divination? Reading Tarot takes a lot to learning, there’s a lot of cards, upright and reversed meanings. I’m sure there’s more to learn with the pendulum and so much more to learn with Runes. Am I spreading myself to thin?
Only you can really answer that. But I took it one at a time, personally. It was just way too much for my brain to process all at once. But as I said, that’s just me.
Are you enjoying your time with these tools? If it ever starts feeling more like a chore than a curious dive into a rabbit hole, then you know you’ve hit your limit for the moment. Confusion is also a request by the brain to slow down. All you’d have to do is step back and rest a bit, and you should be fine to follow your curiosity again.
It all ties in together. I immerse myself, and do it all, and never feel like it is too much, but if you are new to it, you may want to spend more time on one aspect, to gain knowledge and skill. Then shift ficus to the next, but don’t feel like you can’t do it all if it feels comfortable.
Thoughtful Thursday Vicky,
I agree with Amethyst,
Likewise, as Georgia said
The craft is not a race that has to be done in a certain amount of time. Do as you feel called. The craft is not a practice that requires a certain knowledge or having to do something at a specific time (I’m thinking catechism, has to be done when someone is a certain age).
So, if you think you are spreading too thin, than maybe you are. Just take a respite, maybe a couple days, a week, a month…just whatever your spirit feels called to do.

Hi @vicky ![]()
I think if you’re asking the question, it may be time to pause! It could also be the perfect time to evaluate how you’re doing it; as someone who often studies multiple things at the same time, I know how easy it is to go from “this journey is awesome” to “I need to stop for food and water”. We have all been there, in the beginning there’s this drive to do it all and learn it all and the rabbit holes get deeper and darker… and suddenly you’re not swimming anymore, you’re not even treading water, you’re gasping for air.
If you want to learn all 3 then do so, but you can rotate what you learn when, or reduce the amount of each method you’re learning at the same time. Are you doing 1 or more activities for each method every day (i.e. more than one tarot reading, pendulum session and rune reading every day), because you can stretch them out throughout the week to give your brain a little rest in between. Or you can make a sort of divination roulette; write down every option on a separate piece of paper and put them all into a bag, then pick one whenever you feel called to that day. So options could be a 1 card pull, 1 rune pull, 1 minute pendulum session, 3 card pull, 5 rune pull, 7 minutes with the pendulum… whatever activities you like doing, write them down and put them in the bag, and make it a me time activity instead of something to learn. Remember - divination isn’t going anywhere, so try to slow down and enjoy the journey.
Have fun!

I cannot add much to what has already been said and agree entirely. I would concentrate on the ones that you are naturally drawn to. I don’t do everything and sometimes you read all of these different divinations and it can become overwhelming. Every Witch has their own divination(s) which can differ from another we are all unique in our journeys. So it is your choice on what you feel suits you.
