I am slightly perturbed at myself. I knew a storm was coming but forgot to set out my container to catch some of the storm water. I’m in Texas and I hope I’ll be getting another chance tonight! Happy collecting!
In my area of Texas it’s supposed to rain for the next few days. We had a crazy lightning storm earlier today and I wish I would have thought of that. I was struck by lightning once, so I try not to go out when it’s lightning. My daughter sent me this pic of the lightning over my area. It would’ve make great storm wayer!
I’ve been seeking a good recharge- sit out on the balcony and watch a good electrical storm. We haven’t had one yet.
Most of what we have is wind. I suppose I ought to recharge with that, since I’m an air fairy, but it sometimes gets to be too much when I’m buffeted to the point of not being able to stand up in a gust. Or getting a mouth full of sand during a picnic.
As we headed down the tram the other day, our guide pointed out a dust devil on the far north side of town. It’s amazing to see one so clearly, so far away!
Hmm. I have mini bags of each of the directional winds, but not one of swirling winds. Maybe this is trying to tell me I need it. I guess I need to pocket a bag every time I go out in case we get close to another dust devil.
We had a good downpour today - but both my rain barrels are already full from the two inches of rain we got a couple of days ago!
Where in Texas are you @Marina?
@jayne Rowlett TX. NE of Dallas.
@georgia I’ve never thought of collecting wind! how do you use it? I have collected sand and water. Even some dirt from different locations. And I love to collect acorns.
While we didn’t have that serious of storms right now, the rain is poooooouring down and I put out a container first thing this morning to make some moonwater tonight!
I did manage to collect some of Hurricane Helene’s water when she came through. I have not decided what to use that in - such destructive power…
The other plus is that my rain barrels are full, and my gardens are happy! Thank for the reminder!
We had a real doozie last night. We had some rain earlier in the evening and then at midnight, all hell broke loose. Within a few minutes the power was out but the view out the back window was scary - the winds were gusting so high the trees were waving back and forth and I was worried about branches getting broken. (My neighbor since told me that she sheltered in her closet under the stairs and she thought there might be tornadoes.
Thankfully, the power was back on by morning, and checking around the yard, the only casualty was the sunflower in the island bed.
Traveling, tired, and you want a tail wind home to save gas? Open a bag and ask for the wind to bless you.
Casting a particularly important spell and seeking extra oomph? Each wind direction aligns with an element. Earth for steady long term acts, and physical manifestation. Air for communication, joy, music, and light. Fire for quick, short term acts, and heat. Water for flow, peace, and ease.
I haven’t collected a dust devil, yet. Didn’t have a bag for it when I was caught by surprise in an area where it is said we cannot have tornadoes, thanks to the protection of the mountains. I guess we can after all. The spiral winds can be used for uplifting energy, quick cleansing (I was considered a cleaning tornado when I helped a friend move in my youth), releasing and burying that which is no longer helpful.
@georgia That is so cool! I have never tried it. So… when the wind is blowing a certain direction, get a bag out (what kind of bag) and catch some wind. Is that right? Which direction corresponds with each element. Please and thank you.
Collecting Wind Bags- Georgia
Note: air- yellow, earth- green, fire- red, water- blue, according to the directions in your belief system: Wicca = north- earth, east- air, south- fire, west- water. Mine is different- that’s OK. Go with what makes you feel comfortable.
Last summer, I noticed we were having winds from all 4 directions in a matter of just a few days, repeatedly. I had purchased those see through bags which are colored, but so thin I could see through them. If I noticed a wind out of the east, for example, I picked out the yellow bag and went outdoors.
First, I prayed: Dear Wind, I don’t want to keep you from your work. Please grant me a blessing I can use later as you blow through this bag.
Then I opened the gauze bag and let the wind blow through it. When I felt it was enough, I pulled the bag shut, spoke my gratitude, and left.
Some may want to make an offering. Blowing the wind a kiss is good. Whistling or singing a song will work. Tell a joke you heard that made you laugh is fun. If that doesn’t seem like enough, refill the bird feeder or bird bath.
(Trivia: It used to be that people believed whistling called the wind.)
Once inside, it’s OK to crush the bag for storage. The blessing is attached to the weave of the fabric. I put my bags into a zipper bag and stored them in the tin with my altar items.
(Reiterating just to have it all in one post:) To use,

Also, note your local weather patterns. If there is usually a west wind when you have a gentle rain, but an east wind during a nasty storm, remember that pattern and use it to your benefit. Many notice cold winds come from the poles and hot winds come from the equator. It doesn’t always act like this, so be aware of your local patterns.
Thank you so much! I love the information and wrote it all down.
