The Smithsonian Institute

I was intrigued by the article published reported here about Smithsonite by [christina4] I visited the Smithsonian once, and amazing experience!
Here’s a history of the Institute. Named for James Smithson (1765–1829), a British scientist. Our History | Smithsonian Institution

After seeing this I was left wondering about the connection between Smithsonite the mineral and Smithsonian the institute.

It turns out the mineral smithsonite was named in 1832 in honor of English chemist and mineralogist James Smithson (c.1765–1829), whose inheritance established the Smithsonian Institution and who first identified the mineral in 1802.

It’s a very interesting museum with a long history. Thanks for sharing, @Garnet!
