Challenge Entry #9

Of Candles and Flame

Can you believe that I haven’t already done a candle magick entry somewhere?? Me neither. So, here we go. :black_heart:

I’m using three red candles here while working with Lilith. The colour red is intentional, for it’s associated with passion, love, energy, strength, courage, desire, blood, confidence, lust, and so on. The number three is also significant because it represents a trinity of deities/spirits/daemons.

I usually don’t read into candle flames, smoke, or similar. Personally, I feel like mundane scenarios can affect it too easily, and I don’t really want to bother wading through all that. But that’s just my personal preference.

Anyway, in this scenario, the candles play another role, which is to help me focus and get into a more meditative state. What I often do is focus on the flames so that it is easier to imagine them in my mind when it comes time to do so.

I really enjoy the cosy ambience that lit candles add to a space. They make the area feel calmer, more inviting, and more conducive to relaxation.

What I often do with my candles when using them is anoint them with an oil relevant to the situation or deity. I don’t always do this, partly because I don’t always have an oil ready and available, but I do it when I can. I feel that this helps connect the candle to the energies that I desire.

I also often dedicate candles to deities. I often burn a candle or two or three to Hekate, Lilith, Selene, Nyx, Lucifer, Belial, and Mammon. I’ve also burnt candles to Loki, the Morrigan, Clauneck, and others, too, but these are the ones that come to mind first.

Next on my to-do list when it comes to candles is to start making my own. I already have the waxes, moulds, dyes, oils, containers, and other things required to make them. I just need to do it, but I think it will be great when I do, because there always seems to be something special about the energy in handcrafted items.
