šŸ¶ Weekly Witchy CHALLENGE - Magickal Inks & Oils

@kimberly57 since this is your first challenge, remember… your entry can be however you approach the challenge! With that being said, you have created an oil :dizzy: but aside from that, from reading other’s experiences, you have learned at least a couple of things to take with you moving forward when making oils or other mixes, whether they are inks or any type of oils. So that’s great too!

@Amaris_Bane I have been doing the same thing to be able to not use commercial Rx whether it be for physical or mental health. I have quite the coping toolbox now! I do suffer from severe chronic migraines, & can completely understand wanting to relieve a headache before it turns to a migraine. Due to the amount of them that I was having, I currently have treatments every 12 weeks that have been amazing! :star_struck: but I do like to use other remedies when I know or feel a headache… you never know when those are going to be something much worse sometimes. Those are also some great recipes, I will have to jot those down in my little book of witchy awesomeness

@Kasandra I love the blessing oil & agree that the Dragon’s Blood… a little goes a long way. I actually have the Dragon’s Blood EO & Dragon’s Blood supplement. Although I can’t remember how much of that you use when ingesting… I will have to look at that one again. I thought it was interesting that it came in a supplement, EO, resin… so versatile. I have another one to add to my witchy book of awesomeness! Thank you so much!

@Ostara… I saw your entry yesterday & then went to check the mail… my Tamed Wild box was here & I opened it all excited… then remembered… I have never used this type of pen or ink… so I am going to give that a go later today & I will let you know how it goes. I have written with calligraphy pens, it was a class in high school that I took & I loved it. I’ve been thinking of getting another set or even just 1 really, to work on writing in calligraphy again. But if this pen I received works out… maybe I could do my witchy book over with that :revolving_hearts:

I love these challenges for the sparks of inspiration & the ways that everyone approaches them :star_struck:

@mary25, using a feather as a quill pen, I love that you thought to do that for this challenge & that you were able to make your own ink! I’m going to have to see what I have for feathers & maybe try doing the same & alternate between the glass pen & the feather quill! Again thank you for some lovely inspiration!

@MeganB great idea, I’ll have to go see what’s around my area. I mean, I have an idea but have never really looked into it to really connect with the land, minus collecting things from the different beaches & coastlines.

@Mistress_Of_Herbs speaking of poultices, I have heard about using Spanish Moss in them but until just now, I never really knew what it was good for… I do have a poultice blend. But I’m never really sure how to use it because even though I have the blend, I’m just unsure… then I get all in my head & well… that goes to the back of the recesses of my brain because I get nervous I guess about the ā€œnewā€ part of it. Back to needing to get out of my head :joy:

@CelestiaMoon first, I completely agree when inspiration hits, that’s the time to use it  I’ve had more than a couple of middle-of-the-night inspirations myself. I love that you were able to make an ink AND be such a thrifty witch to use a toothpick when a quill wasn’t available for you :hugs:

I’ll be back later today with my own entry. I’m trying to think of what it is exactly that I want to write… back in my head & overthinking… it’s just something I do :joy:

There are so many great entries already! I’m going back through and reading them all right now, so forgive me if I miss yours

@charlotte2 - The craft can be incorporated into so many things! I’m also exploring magical oils for skincare. I’ve got an oil steeping with calendula and lavender that should be about finished. Honestly, it’s been steeping for over a month  so hopefully it’s still good! I just need to get some more dropper bottles. I’m glad to hear that your experience with the orange oil was a good one! May you have many more to come  :sparkles:

@Hazel_Rae - I also love anointing my candles! It adds such a great extra layer of magical work to the spell that I just can’t not do it  I hope you have fun exploring magical inks with your journals!

@AileyGrey – That’s a beautiful blessing  You made that ink your own, too, with the added essential oils and moon water. That’s awesome! I’m sure baby Ephraim is going to be well protected and especially loved :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@Phoenix_Fire - I had never considered using a spray to write on something like a pillow or in the air. How clever! I’m really glad it worked for you, too. You definitely need that sleep - it’s important! May the spray and writing continue to work well for you in the future!

@Nixi - I’ve never made Dragon’s Blood ink before, so I do hope you’ll share with us when you make yours! It sounds like a simple enough process once you have the materials to do so. :lemon: I also remember making invisible ink with lemon juice when I was a kid. I need to show this to my own kiddo lol thank you for sharing!

@brandy20 - There’s just something so visually pleasing about a well-dressed candle :candle: I love it! I haven’t made the home blessing oil yet, but I do plan on it in the future. I’m glad to know it works well for you and others. I think it would even be a great housewarming gift!

@heather75 - Just looking at this recipe, it looks like it smells amazing! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I imagine it works just as well. Thank you for sharing it with us! I’m going to add this to my own Grimoire, if you don’t mind

@Cosmic_Curiosity - The blend sounds like it smells amazing, and I’m glad that it worked well for you! I can only imagine how stressful parent-teacher conferences are on the teacher end. :grimacing: It makes me glad I homeschool my own kiddo and now parent-teacher conferences are just me talking to myself! I hope you see improvements with your dark circle blend, too. Thank you for sharing!

@Kasandra - Bringing it in with the Dragons! :dragon:  I love this so much, thank you for sharing! I can’t burn incense in my office space - it’s where my scale-having animal family live - so having a spray may be a good solution. I’ll have to do some research, but I’m determined to find an alternative! Thank you for the inspiration!

@Ostara - Ohh where does the name ā€œRobber’s Oilā€ come from? I’ve never heard that before! In any case, I love your quill pen and your handwriting looks perfectly fine!

@Amaris_Bane - Oh I am definitely saving this recipe. I suffer from headaches because of sinus issues and I think this would be an amazing help! I don’t have the crystal chips, but I’m sure the oils themselves would work wonders.

@mary25 - Oh my goodness, why didn’t I think of that?! That’s such a cleaver idea :joy: and I’m glad you thought of it! I hope it works well for you with your intended uses

@CelestiaMoon - I think the pink ink and potentially added glitter suits you perfectly! (also @Francisco we don’t have a pink heart emoji?) I hope the ink set well for you - and I agree! Even in the middle of the night, you have to strike while the inspiration is there!

@kimberly57 - Your entry is perfect! You took the idea and ran with it in the way that fit you best. That’s exactly what these challenges are about! :sparkles: I’m glad you were able to learn something new, as well. That’s part of the fun! I hope your next oil turns out amazingly!

@Mistress_Of_Herbs - Oh that’s good to know, thank you! I’ve only ever burned Spanish Moss in an incense blend I created. I’m glad to know it’s safe to use in my oil the way I’m thinking!

@Susurrus - One of my goals this year is to connect more with my local land, especially where my home sits. These ingredients are all around me where I live, so that’s what I naturally went for. I have things from local beaches, but those are a bit further away for me so they aren’t what I’m wanting right now. But those are great for connecting with the ocean when I need to!

I’m starting to feel like Amazon should be giving me commission :joy:

Thank you. I guess so, I don’t remember doing it but it was like I had always done it

I’m still perfecting it, partly due to working with Xanthan I’m guessing but it’s getting there

I have a rather large batch because I went into mad scientist mode that turned out too thick and I’m going to show mine by giving him a paint brush.

I did the same thing

Very good, way better than mine but that’s about what my writing looks like with a proper writing instrument

It is absolutely beautiful

Yes! I’ve used it without the chips and it’s just as effective.

I’m jealous! Mine hasn’t even shipped yet, even though my subscription was charged on the 9th.:cry:

I saw it coming! :joy:

Need to tweak the recipe… though I have to say this kind of ā€œdestroy after readingā€ kind of writing is pretty cool too! :bomb:

That’s so good to know, thank you!

Oh no! That sucks that it rubbed off, but you’re right! It does give it a different kind of magical feel. Oh my gods, I just had a great idea! You could draw a sigil like this, charge it under the moonlight overnight, then rub the sigil off to activate it! Or even rub it off and onto your palms to carry that magick with you during the day!

This is perfect, I love it! :heart_eyes_cat: :sparkling_heart:

@Amaris_Bane mine gets charged on… the… 3rd or 4th I believe. I made it close to the beginning of the month. I didn’t expect it until next week. So it was a pleasant surprise.

I won’t post pictures of the items so not to spoil it for you & @Ostara or anyone else who is still waiting, but I’ll try to post an end result of my attempt.

@MeganB that makes sense. For me, I can walk across the street & I’m on a beach. So it’s a bit diferent that way. I can definitely look around my yard though & non beach part of my neighborhood!

Okay, so I’m having to improvise since my stuff to bottle my oil won’t be in till Thursday. I was reading my book club book, and it said a great anointing oil is with rosemary and olive oil. So I mixed a wee little bit of that up today and added a pinch of sea salt for good measure and protection. I used it to anoint the Persephone statue I got for my birthday with this chant:

Great Persephone, Queen of the Underworld and Bringer of Spring, I welcome you into my house!
Thank you for leaving your dark and deadly spouse!
Bring us daffodils and crocuses,
Bring us Spring by the time anyone notices!

Greet your Mother, who has missed you while you were away!
The world can awaken how you’re here for more than a day.
Grant that the world buds and flowers once more,
and grant that around the redbud you do roam!
Wonderful Persephone, who welcomes the dead and comforts the living, I welcome you into my home!

Oh that’s a great idea & improvisation. Although, I think it works well as your own creation too! :hugs:

As always it is written beautifully

Thank you, my dear! It also goes well on chicken! LOL!

Oooh…that is an awesome idea. I am definitely trying that now!

@CelestiaMoon and @mary25 – Glad I could inspire! I hope you’ll let us know how it goes if you try that method  It could even be used to anoint a candle with a sigil’s energy if the candle is too small to inscribe on  now my brain just won’t stop with the ideas!

@Susurrus - That totally makes sense. If I lived closer to the beach I’m sure I’d use sand and different beach things

@Amethyst - What a fantastic idea! Olive oil is a great anointing oil for Greek statues anyway because of the connection between Greece and olives. :olive: Your chant is inspiring, too. Persephone has always been a deity of interest for me. I love her stories so much! :hibiscus:

In the Victorian era people would use the oil when they were robbing graves. It was to protect them from the spirits. Pretty morbid, but I read an article that said it was antibacterial so it protected them from whatever bacteria the bodies may have.

Ohh that’s super interesting. I didn’t know that! You learn something new everyday

I love your idea using orange peel & olive oil. Sounds wonderful, thank you for sharing!

I added some (distilled) water to my recipe, thanks to a lot of xanthan gum the consistency is very much like that of nail polish, so I’m going to try if it works for that  This is fun~ :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
