🌦 Weekly Witchy CHALLENGE - Weather Witchery

This sounds like a nice time to me! :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain: Here in Florida, I think the best time to work with the weather is during the Summer months. That’s when we get all the tropical storms and hurricanes!

This is a great idea! I’ve made a spell oil for this purpose in the past. I can’t wait to see what you come up with! :sun:

Rhyming spells is always so difficult for me lol I understand your pain! I think that’s a noble thing to do though, send the rain somewhere else. What about… Oh, I came up with this! ā€œStop the rain, stop the pour; Send it where it’s needed more.ā€ What do you think?

Nah, I don’t think that matters  the moon is there whether you can see it or not!

I could go for a dreary or rainy day right about now. It was foggy this morning but it’s still up in the 80s for us here.

I think those are all great uses of the knot magick with storms!

That’s a good question… actually, I think last winter there were flurries in Orlando at one point, which is only a bit more than an hour from me. When it does snow in Florida it tends to happen in the northern parts of Florida. There’s even a whole Wiki page dedicated to snow in Florida :joy: → Snow in Florida - Wikipedia

We got our telescope out last night to look at the moon and it was so cool! I tried to snap a picture but it didn’t work that well. We even got to see Mars which, from my location, it looked like a star right under the Moon in the sky.

And here’s the view from my backyard with my camera.

I wanted to add one more thing, in your challenge you mentioned:

the ocean is a force not to be reckoned with.

I was sitting on the beach with my mom and little sister. I was looking at the lake and I said to myself:

this lake is a force not to be reckoned with.

That was the beginning for me… the first time I ever felt such strength, energy, vibes and I’m talking I’m a little girl like 6 years old. That was the day I knew I was different.

@Medea thank you for the comments on the moon :full_moon: pictures from last night! I love  taking them now regardless of the phase.

The ocean & water… :ocean: It’s definitely a sight to see when the water is raging in a storm, it can move anything in it’s way change the lay of the land if it’s really going, especially during high tide around here! I’m heavily connected with water as long as I can remember & now fire which is more recent development in the last 3 or so years… getting there with earth & air… but it was definitely water first.

@Sarafeena_Sage, I’ve had this phone for… 2 years  it was just an update that happened lol… now it has a 30x zoom with a box & when it turns yellow it focuses & a thing pops up to take the picture! I was so excited when I found it, completely by accident last month. :joy:

One of the first other waters I ever learned about. Snowstorm or blizzard water is used mainly for defensive spells, potions, and wards. First used for more darker spells it like many aspects of the craft changes with the times and user. I was taught that the first recorded uses of Snowstorm water date back to the time of the druids and Native Americans.
Snowstorm water: A powerful water used for freezing or long-lasting spells.

Collect fresh snow 4 to 6x the amount you want to have on hand during a snowstorm if you can best around the new or full moon. It must be clean snow. Allow it to melt naturally in the pot and transfer into a serialized holding container. Charge a second time either by the light of the sun or moon depending on how you wish to use it.

Uses. Like snowwater it is used for slow-acting spells, spells that of warding or repelling, Repelling charms as well as banishments. If charged by the sun it is a powerful amplifier used to enhance many spells including protection wards and more.

I find that thinking about this challenge and weather i realised that long before i knew of magic practices and connections i connected to the elements and weather in ways i couldnt explain. While extreme weather mase me nervous about bring safe or loud noices startle me but besides that i had always felt connected to strong winds and got excited when felt the strong wind blowing as i walked. ( as long as hair wasnt out n going all in face or getting messy if had to go somewhere special n needed to be presentable i loved the feel and didnt mind if looked a little wind blow after. There was a power and energy to it and ive always felt connected to that even as a teen, now i understand more of that connection now that ive found my path.
I collected some sticks that thought make good wands that broke away during strong winds the other night. 1 long one and 2 shorter ones. I figured maybe theyd have that energy still from the strong winds and storm we had. Even though its heading to Litha for us, we still occasionally get strong weather. I also tjought of the other elements in relation to weather and think of how they help the land as the wheel of the year changes. And how the seasons change things around in nature. For example the leaves on trees, one tree has a purple like colour during summer and spring but during autum they turn brown and the fall off n cause i walk past tge patch of trees nearly everyday on way to work or to shops for food id started to notice the changes. Weather xan also impact grow depending what plants need more. Like growing seeds some need certain season for plamting and others xan be planted aby time of year. Some need full sun, others partial. Sunny days can be uplifting and happy and affect mood, ive thought of solar energy as bringing light and positivity and still have sunflowers in house that was given to bring that light into home. And im growing more outside. Weather can effect the waves on oceam or in water and shows the energy and power around during that time. Pretty cool and i was excited to see the connection and understand why i felt connected anf that its not just an oddity of mine that i can feel connected to elements abd aspects of weather.

Charging Storm Water Spell…

When a powerful rain storm is heading your way, take a bowl outside and leave it where it can collect the rainwater without interference from roofs, trees, or other overhanging obstacles. You should collect the water directly from the clouds. After-wards, bring the bowl indoors, set it on your altar, and cover it with a white cloth. At the Full Moon, remove the cloth so moonlight will touch the water. Light a silver candle, drop some mugwort into the flame, and with a feather waft smoke over the water, saying:

By thunder and lightning, By mugwort and Moon! This water is charged to work any boon!
Pour the water into clean bottles, and store in a dark area until needed to boost a spell’s power

I found this spell by Ann Moura

I like it because I always like to give my spells that extra boost. The next time there is a thunder storm I will definitly be running around outside with my bottle…

This! :raised_hands: The ocean really has a mind of its own- just when you think a spot is safe, a bigger-than-normal wave comes up and grabs you. It’s funny in the summer on a calm day, but during a winter storm and it can be life or death. The ocean truly is a mighty force :ocean:

I could look at those pictures all day- really gorgeous shots of the moon, Siofra!:full_moon_with_face:

That’s my phone too! :joy: I’m also so happy when other people share their nice pics, since mine make the moon look like disformed street lights lol.

Hooray for new phones for Yule- I hope you get a lovely model, Sarall! Cheers to the future moon pics!

Hahaha that’s awesome that they have a wiki page for keeping track! :joy::+1:

And WHOA- look at those pictures!!! The close up is stunning, but I have to say I really like the far off image with all the pretty clouds framing the glowing moon. It’s mesmerizing to look at :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Well-said, Medea! The ocean has quite the rap for being dangerous, but lakes are worthy of care and respect too :droplet:

Thank you for sharing your wisdom about snowstorm and blizzard water- there really are so many ways one could use it in spellwork! It’s a water with lots of possibilities. I like the option of charging it in the sun too, adding the energies of solar magick as well :sun_with_face: Thank you so much for the great advice and water recipe!:two_hearts:

That was a beautiful reflection of your ties with the weather and the seasons, Phoenix- and hooray for your new treasures! :magic_wand: Do you think you’ll keep them as they are or perhaps add some decorations/carvings/etc? Either way, I hope they serve you well!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I’m wishing you a very blessed upcoming Litha- may the weather, whatever it may be, continue to help you feel connected to nature and bring you joy! :sun_with_face:

Ohhhh I’m excited to see what you will choose to do, Jeannie! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Whatever you do, I’m wishing you good luck- have fun with it!

Thank you so much for sharing the charging spell- this sounds like a great one to use while collecting storm water! I agree that it would give it a nice boost- thanks again for sharing it, Yolande! :two_hearts: :raised_hands:

I love this challenge! I decided to mention that i have 12 full moons water. I honestly couldn’t find much info on the topic. (If anyone has more info, please feel free to help out!) Basically its just using the same wayer for the 12 full moons of the year and its very potent!
Being that I’m sick, I refuse to do any spell work. The last time that happened, I only became worse.

Weekly Challenge Entry Weather Witchery

A lot of you know that I don’t like lightning (because it hurts). I really don’t want to experience that again. Lol! So,I found some magick things to keep lightning away. These came from The Encyclopedia of 5000 spells by Judika Illes.

  • Acorn Lightning Spell-Carry an acorn to protect from storms and lightning especially when venturing outdoors.
  • Marjoram invokes Thor’s blessings. Keep it in and around your home to ward off lightning.
  • Lightning Protection Mistletoe-In Sweden mistletoe is known as ā€œthunderstormā€. Place it over thresholds, and hang it from the wall to protect a home from lightning. (I found some mistletoe yesterday that is within reach)
  • Lightning Safety Spell: Nettles-Carry stinging nettles in a conjure bag to magically prevent yourself from being struck from lightning.
  • Stop a Storm Spell-Hold a powerful, charge magic mirror before a sleeping man’s face during a storm to ease hail and lightning.

I suggest staying indoors when it is lightning. Of course, when I was struck there was only one lightning strike in the entire county and it struck me. Talk about bad luck. My co workers told me I needed to go to church. Lol!

Weekly Witchy Challenge - Weather Witchery ENTRY

For this week’s Challenge, I am going to incorporate Storm Magick and Moon Spell. I have always loved Thunderstorms and I found that there is a name/definition for this, Ceraunophilia. The definition is A special fondness for thunderstorms. (wordinfo.info)

Upon researching Storm Magick, I found that spells preformed at the waning moon during a thunderstorm, will be more powerful than done during the new moon. This spell, removing negativity from my life, is the spell that I will be trying at the next waning moon.

ā€œStorm Magick can be incredibly powerful, especially when joined with an appropriate lunar phase. Crashing thunderstorms and torrential downpours lend Magick their own special kind of power. These are times when the air is charged with electricity and nature is at her most ferocious.ā€ (witchoflupinehollow,Stewart,2022)

Weather Magick
Weather is a major aspect of nature, and witches are natural beings, attuning their lives to the tides of the moon, melding their patterns to the turning of the year. In Weather Witchery, Katrina Rasbold writes, ā€œPart of claiming our own inherent power includes working with the natural elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. There is very little about weather that is not an elemental experience, sometimes to the extreme!ā€.(Llewellyn Worldwide, 2015).

I would image the importance of a Weather Witch would be for farmers, sailors and pilots, etc… having control over the weather. There is a vast amount of information on Weather Witchery and learning as I go can get a little confusing and overwhelming. I am remembering, what I now believe was my mother’s BOS, reading fables and ditties like ā€œrain rain go away come again another dayā€¦ā€ but as kids, we just sang it to make the rain stop so we could go out and play, not knowing we were doing …Magick.

CHALLENGE ENTRY

BACK STORY
I grew up with snow from October to April. Loved it.

It is December and we still don’t have snow. Sad, because we should have snow given where I live and the time of year.

FINDING SPELL
So, I cast a snow spell. I used a spell I found on tumblr. Basically, I googled (hence my post about google being my BOS) snow spell and picked this. There were many I didn’t like as I didnt like the words used. One called for rain to turn to snow (I don’t like ice rain or snow mixed with rain-dangerous). Another called for a snow storm-also not what I want.

INGREDIENTS
This one called for
A pine cone
Water (I used my moon water)
Sugar
White ribbon ( I used white thread)

CASTING SPELL
I set up my alter, cast a circle, and prepared the pine cone by dipping it in the moon water and then rolling it in sugar. I used moon water as the moon right now is a cold moon. I didn’t prepare this water during this moon though so I am not sure. But regardless, to me the moon looks cold.

I chanted three times( see below) while dipping it in the sugar. Then realized that I was supposed to chant while hanging it up outside. So I closed the circle, hung it outside and chanted
ā€œWith these words your tongue must sew, for all around there to be snowā€
I chanted it three times.

DOUBTS
Now, I am not sure it will work as my kids were around and talking while I cast my circle. My dog likes to get close to me so he kept inching up to me. I don’t think he breaks my circle, just a bit of a distraction. :slightly_smiling_face: Also, I forgot to light the candles when in the circle. And I didn’t follow the spell exactly. However, i do believe the intention behind the spell matters most. And the biggest reason is that I had a slight tight feeling in my stomach as I cast as I don’t want too much snow.

AMENDMENTS
So later on, I spoke with my kids and asked if they would be interested in helping me cast the spell as they are certain they want snow. My 14 year old felt awkward and my 12 year old seemed irreverent. But we did sing/chant ā€œlet it snowā€ a few times.

DISCUSSION
I was able to explain to my 14 year old, who attended Catholic school until grade 7, that what I was doing wasn’t evil. Witchcraft wasn’t evil. Note, the school he was attending was attached to a pretty zealous pre-Vatican 2 type church. Scary. It was a good conversation.

TODAY
Today I am going outside to chant some more and imagine the snow falling on my face. I am going to see if my kids will have a pretend snowball fight with me, even if only for one or two snowballs. I believe this will strengthen the intensity of the spell.

RESULTS

At some point it will snow because of where I live. But hopefully, these chants will bring it sooner.

UPDATE
It is snowing!!!

Yes @antoinette. I was at a friends house and it started raining. Her car windows were down so I went outside to roll them up. It happened really fast like a millisecond. When I touched the car handle the hair on my arms stood up, loud noise and pain in my hand. I pulled my hand away and said some profanity. My friend was on her porch screaming at me to get inside because I was struck by lightning. It struck across the street, went over the road under 2 cars and grounded on me. I was actually laughing about it because it was so ridiculous. I had to call my brother to tell him about it. Later on he called me and said when he watched the news there was only 1 lightning strike in our county that day and it found me! Lol! So, that’s my lightning story. I don’t like lightning.

Hello everyone! :hugs: I must say that I love elemental magick.

One of my favorite practices is connecting with thunderstorms. It’s like being filled with the power of the storm.:zap::cloud_with_lightning:
It’s about going outside when the storm is building, when the wind announces its arrival and lightning crosses the sky but it’s still not raining or just a few drops of rain fall. I close my eyes and imagine all that energy flowing inside me, I feel it running through my veins. I energize myself, I am grateful, if necessary I direct an intention. It is a powerful experience. Sometimes the name of the Goddess comes in and I offer my devotion through a small impromptu dance.
