What is the veil

I’m not exactly sure what the purpose of the veil is or why it’s thinner now. With it being thinner it’s easier to communicate between the realms.

I don’t have the mental space to fully dive into the concept of the veil. However, I do have two different articles that can help! I’ll dive in and maybe write a whole post about this concept of the veil

The kind of spiritual experiences we expect to have at Samhain and Beltane now happen year-round. People who move between the worlds say the boundaries they usually encounter are minimal, or simply aren’t there. More people are experiencing the Fair Folk more frequently. And Otherworldly encounters are increasing – almost everyone has a story, if they feel safe telling it.

Whoa! :astonished:

Wow! I would loooove to read on that topic! Thanks for the articles :sparkling_heart:

Yeah, this is something that John Beckett has been writing about for a few years now! He wrote a post in 2016 titled The Veil is Shredded that has some really interesting (and relatable) revelations in it! One thing that really sticks out to me is that this veil, or mist, or boundary - whatever you want to call it - was closer to our physical world many years ago. John suggests that the boundary hardened and solidified with the rise of modern civilization, but now it is going through a cycle of thinning and softening.

I tend to think that like much in Nature, the Veil waxes and wanes in natural cycles… albeit very long cycles. The stories of our ancestors tell us that the Otherworld used to be much closer to the ordinary world. If the Veil became thicker and harder at the same time as the rise of civilization, perhaps it’s time for it to become thinner and softer again.

If it’s a natural cycle, then it can’t be reversed, and what we’re seeing is only the beginning.

I’ve thought a bit about the concept of the veil. I know there’s some sort of separation, and I can’t say I’ve ever crossed the veil easily, but I have crossed the veil. I’ve also experienced situations where entities have crossed from the Otherworld into this world. The way I see it (right now, at least - sometimes my beliefs fluctuate) is that the Otherworld and the physical world exist at the same time right on top of each other. Each place is different - geographically, physically, spiritually, etc. - but they exist simultaneously. If an entity wants to make their presence known to us, they need to get close to the boundary between the worlds - some entities find this easier than others. Some entities have no desire to interact with our world. Some entities thrive on human interaction.

It gets more complex for me when I think about the different levels of the Otherworld. In this instance, I’m using the word “Otherworld” to categorize anything not of our physical reality. In Irish belief, for example, there are several places that exist outside the physical reality in which humans live. These include Tír nAill (“the other land”), Tír Tairngire (“land of promise/promised land”), Tír na nÓg (“land of the young/land of youth”), Tír fo Thuinn (“land under the wave”), Tír na mBeo (“land of the living”), Mag Mell (“plain of delight”), Mag Findargat (“the white-silver plain”), Mag Argatnél (“the silver-cloud plain”), Mag Ildathach (“the multicoloured plain”), Mag Cíuin (“the gentle plain”), and Emain Ablach (possibly “isle of apples”). [this list of places came from Wikipedia with their translations]

It’s possible that these are all different names for similar places in the Otherworld. It’s also possible that each name is that of a specific place in the Otherworld. Each of these places shows up in Irish mythology in different stories, but there aren’t a lot of answers about what each place is (or at least none that I have found yet!). There’s also another place called Tech Duinn, or the House of Donn. This is the place where it is believed the souls of the dead traveled, but it is unknown if this was a temporary resting place or someplace more permanent.

So, when I think of the veil between worlds, I don’t see it as a literal barrier. It’s the separation between worlds that is only natural for different planes of existence. It’s like John Beckett writes in Thinking About the Veil Between Worlds – he can’t walk into a bank and get into the vault because there are many security measures in place that he doesn’t know how to get around. If he knew the codes and how to bypass the security measures, he could easily travel between being outside the vault and inside the vault.

I’m not meant to know of the Otherworld except where I can travel when invited or guided - and I would never travel in the Irish Otherworld on my own. I am more open to messages and visits from the Otherworld to our world, though, and that’s how I’ve set up my practice and protections.

Whoa again. :astonished:

Has it seemed dangerous at all?

I’ve been finding this, too. But if we’re relying on people who visit there, return somehow, and share it with the world, the sources are going to be limited. Or, I suppose, get reliable information via communication which, is even more hearsay. Maybe entities don’t know how to lie but they also wouldn’t anything in the same way we do, so their perspective is likely wildly different to ours.

Ah, I’m thinking out loud again.

Do these happen often?

Anyway, thank you for sharing this information. :black_heart:

I’ve often wondered this. I’ve talked about this with my aunty (the psychic), and we both feel that there is a huge shift going on in the natural world that also affects the spirit.

We both believe that civilizations rise, and fall. And when nature gets too damaged by such civilizations, she retaliates, and wipes them out, through natural means or they just disappear without any historical explanation.

Reading the link @MeganB supplied, it’s interesting how he talks of tower time and the storm, and mentions

This is true everywhere, and I feel (just my view), that the thinning of the veil being all year round, lots of spirit connection, lots of god’s interaction (and for me, with the open door to demons at present), is a result of the earth being very upset with all we’re doing, and everything is being shifted, moving and the natural processes are all upset.

I feel we’re heading for a new civilization, personally that will be more intune with nature, with magic, with the world around us, and this current machine that we live in, will pass (as previous empires have passed in history). When we have settled into the new civilization, then maybe the veil will balance itself again, as nature will be balanced again.

People are tuning in more to the magical side of life, an awareness is growing, it’s like nature is preparing us to live in a new way. I don’t know if I’ll see it, Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor did it fall in a day, but fall it did. I think good things are coming, magical things and once nature has shifted herself to get rid of all the dirt, damage and craziness that’s now, everything will balance again.

Just my mad view

I’ve been doing more reading on that link, it’s interesting that he also goes on to say

He also talks about chaos, how it shifts and brings opportunity and needed change

The above links to more on this. Maybe Loki is bringing a new Ragnarok to the world to shift it into a better place, (one view on Ragnarok is that it’s a continuous cycle of chaos and change) and the gods of all pantheons maybe working to this goal. The above author speaks of god’s having their own agendas outside of us. Nature needs something. I think the spirit world is as upset with everything as we are.

So maybe my beastie and the demons are engaging with us more, maybe the ancestors are crossing that veil and engaging with us more, to prepare us for change.

Basically what this author is saying, and what I feel Loki is trying to teach me, is hone our skillset, whatever it is, don’t wait until we have all the right tools, hone what we have now, whether it be ritual, tarot, Spirit contact, etc Get good at where we are now, so we’re ready to where we’re going. Maybe that’s why the veils broken, everyone in the otherworld is trying to help us be ready.

I’m actually quite excited.

From your lips to the Deities’ears, @tracyS ! At the moment it seems to be more prevalent in certain areas. I feel fortunate to have found this coven just so I can feel the hopeful connections.

This area seems to be wiping itself off the map due to greed- not just big stores, but the homeless, too. Nobody is taking care of the place where they live right now so the natural abundance can continue for the next seven generations. We sensitives are paying for it.

Ragnarok is here. Fenrir ate the sun of kindness, except where a few fight to do good deeds against the grain. We are now freezing in loneliness, lack of reliable transportation, and location of supplies. My hope is that the new world will be created soon so I and people I know can get back to living rather than being in survival mode all the time.

Sometimes, it doesn’t seem like anyone died of Covid, here. The only things that were destroyed were a sense of security, the availability of supplies, a sense of respect for each other, transportation for those who respect the planet enough to want to avoid pollution or reduce the carbon footprint, and all social connections. Albuquerque used to be a place where people would hug on the streets, the honk of a car horn was a greeting rather than road rage, people could count on each other for help in times of need, and the gunpowder use was purely fireworks. I used to feel safe walking the streets at night; but now, there’s nowhere to go anymore. Our health is suffering. Honing the swords we have is a great idea, but recognizing them for what they are is even more important. Who exactly is the enemy to wield our swords against?

Seems they have all exempted themselves and no one is responsible. I do Love @tracyS optimism though. Although prepared for most of it, my age may be my downfall. Strength and speed are assets I have less of each year.

May we all find our strength and endurance in the times that come. :heart_on_fire:

Not particularly, but I’ve only ever gone while guided and protected by a deity. If I were to ever venture on my own, I would imagine it could become quite dangerous depending on where you go and who you meet along the way.

haha that’s okay, I think I got what you meant! It’s hard to know what each of those places are in mythology in general. Then when you get the experiences of others and they’re trying to explain it, the answers may vary. Getting information from entities is a whole other thing, too. In my experience, deities and other spirits aren’t always direct, so the Isle of Apples could literally be an island with apple orchards, or the apple could be representative of knowledge or abundance or any other number of concepts.

Not so much lately because things have been kind of everywhere for me mentally and I don’t have the brain space for much else besides the mundane stuff. However, when things are “normal” for me, these messages can come regularly depending on what I’m doing spiritually and who I’m communicating with regularly.

You’re very welcome! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I don’t think that’s a mad view. It makes total sense to me!
