Challenge entry:
I haven’t posted in a while, but I am super excited about this challenge.
My favorite form of divination is reading tarot cards. Since most of the people I read for don’t know what to ask the cards, I devised a method using dice and a book I made with different spreads. The book is organized by the # of cards in the spread. So they would roll the dice and whatever # they land on is the page I turn to in the book and let them choose a spread from that page. Say they roll a 5, I take them to the page of 5 card spreads and they pick one out. This has worked out realy well for people who have never had a reading before, or simply dont know what to ask the cards.
I also recently aquired a pendulum and board that I’ve been practicing with.
I missed everyone while I was gone, and am glad to be back.
Blessed be!
One week to go!
When putting this challenge together, I was curious which methods everyone would choose to explore - it’s so fun to see everyone’s favorite divination methods on display! Thank you to those who have shared so far
For those still pondering what to share, no fear - plenty of time remains on the challenge clock. There is one more week until this challenge closes.
Looking forward to seeing and hearing about your creative crafting projects!
Blessed be
Witch Weekly Challenge for Amethyst:
Hey there! I wasn’t sure what to do for this one. I wanted to work with my pendulum because I find that fascinating but my hands shake too much to get a real answer.
So I turned to my favorite. Tarot. I usually only do a one card pull. I don’t do spreads all that much, but I found one that was interesting on A Little Spark of Joy.com for a Mind - Body - Spirit spread that looked easy to do and gave it a go!
So the first card I pulled was the Mind card and it was the Emperor reversed. I think that means I need to be more authoritative in my life with things. I am very non-confrontational and that’s not always a good thing. Especially when it comes to things like doctors. So I need to find my voice more and speak up.
Then next card was the Body card and I got the King of Cups reversed. That one’s pretty easy I think. I let my emotions go and don’t control them and maybe end up eating to make up for it. Sigh. I am getting better at that though! So I’m working on that.
The last card was Spirit. And I got the Ace of Swords. I take that to mean I’m on point. I’m learning and keeping my heart open to new experiences.
So that’s what I did. I’m going to try to work on myself this Spring. We’ll see how that goes.
Witch Challenge entry.
(I have the above… but I just think about it most often)
Whhoooo boy! I first looked at this challenge as something outside my wheel house… I don’t use runes although I love their significance and history. I use Tarot but mostly just to learn about them. I have a weak ability with the pendulum though it seems to be growing. I don’t read tea leaves (they kinda turn me off). I have a crystal ball that I use for displaying stuff I make… not for witchy things. So… what the heck do I know about divination? As it turns out, I have some ideas.
As I found out recently, there are hundreds of formal names for divination. See Methods of Divination
How many of us have based a decision on a good omen? When considering which way to turn when lost, do you consider what looks promising? Do you see a friendly (or irritating) wild animal and know what to do? If you gamble (I’m a very amateur gambler), do you collect the vibes at the table to base your decision? If you are into sports, do you have a lucky garment? I do most of those things and mostly, I am successful (mostly). I think that some of it is intuition and intuition is a form of divining to me.
Heck, divining rods are a form of divination and I’m pretty good at that - really good if you excuse my ego about it. Naysayers of divination proclaim that dowsing is merely good intuition… I can agree with that.
I recently had to make a decision about a spirit and I used the yes/no feature of Tarot. I got both a yes and a no. Not helpful. I researched as much as I could and thought about it. My intuition told me what to do.
Have you been pondering something and a great song (or a bad song) came on and motivated you in a specific direction? (the formal definition of that is ‘shufflemancy’ ). Have you flipped a coin and then disregarded the outcome (anti-I Ching
)? We probably all have but for each situation where we made a decision based on intuition, there is probably a formal category that describes it.
So… I came to the conclusion that I divine all the time and I suspect many do. So… does this entry count?
(edit: I have a good feeling about it… )

Thank you she’s been around for awhile! She my familiar!

Kermit what an adorable name!! I just love Kermit !
Every time I walk in the room, she’s like can I get some more treats and that’s her little way of telling me she’s hungry! She loves her temptations and She’s like take me in your loving arms!! Underneath the stars

Absolutely! It’s a great exploration of different methods of divination as well as expanding ways to view how we divine. Thanks for sharing your entry!
Very creative and intuitive. The most common thing I read about making magick is that intention is key. I loved your interpretation of the shoe and steering wheel. Now my mind is buzzing with possibilities. Thanks!
I love your skills with making cards and your divination board is awesome. Great ideas. I’ve struggled with making cards but I think there might be something there for me. I have found I work well with things I make. A card deck is on my list of things to do. Thank you!
Wise words for me. I struggled when I first started. I was trying to imitate canned spells and altar designs. That didn’t work at all. Once I followed my heart, it was so much better.
Challenge Entry
I kind of delve into a few different forms of divination, runes, tarot, oracle, and pendulum mostly. And I always combine them together, I find it helps me get the bigger picture.
For my challenge entry I want to share how I use my pendulum. I dont actually have a pendulum, I use my necklace that I wear daily and charge under the full moon.
Instead of assigning directions for yes and no or using a pendulum board, I just hold my hand out underneath my necklace and ask the universe to tell me which direction is what. Saying:
“Show me my yes,” waiting for the pendulum to move and mentally noting which direction, “thank you, stop.”
“Show me my no,” waiting for the pendulum to move and mentally noting which direction, “thank you, stop.”
And then asking my questions. I personally like this method because I can use it any time anywhere.
This was shown to me by a local witchy shop owner
Challenge Entry:
My go to and favorite is my tarot cards over the past few years I’ve gotten better with my cards but here in the last few months I’ve been trying out dowsing rods, I’m still very new to them but they may become a major part in my practice some day!
Here is a deity spread that I did today!
Oh yes that’s right thank you
Omg so cute your kitty wants to join in. Love that you know exactly what you are doing i mean i tend not to trust my own self sometimes doubting where or not wht i am asking is even right. I had the same bed sheet as you quilt cover once not sur3e what happened to in in the move though
Thank you she is pretty precious I do to think
I’ve always been a crazy cat lover
I really don’t doubt the pendulum and I even got my husband using it. I’m glad because it’s definitely helpful! Thank you for your recognition, I know how important it is to actually trust yourself! But using the muscle
helps to train muscles! My third eye!
. myself I keep telling myself because I always feel better after doing the things, the Witchy Things I mean, I really do need to trust my third eye my intuition because my intuition’s been telling me and I need to totally trust myself to the fullest!
OK, so I did smudge and used sage to wash my deck! I use the secret smoke
Washing the deck
I love my divination board Because I can sit on my bed and still do everything I need to do.

First Card in the approach
The mentor!
I look at it like this is my inner world the mentor, my inner wisdom, and just connecting to my spiritual guides and anything that is divine. My inner child and I could dig deeper, but the sacred! I can connect to the anima Mundi world soul, and Great Mother! Hecate ! My angels, my ancestors and the stars the planets and today is a portal that is opening!
The mentor is the celestial one the universal consciousness and we are connected and constantly being dinged.
The empty room Avoid
So since it’s an avoid, it doesn’t mean that it’s totally avoided, but it’s totally necessary
The empty room is a metaphor for clearing the mind and going to a blank slate. Have you ever heard of the void is something like that because it’s more than just avoid it’s divine and sacred . Black is the color of neutrality and protection so cleansing ones mind and not thinking about anything is important! Not thinking about the future or the past or outcomes and regrets! Guilt and the future anxiety!

I pulled the runes

Bright blessings!

@Brandy20
Beautiful deck love it’s the Antique Anatomy Tarot which is a beautiful deck!
What’s the diety spread? What’s the spread intel?
I push all the negativity out, and I bring forth all the love and light! I push all the negative vibes out in a counterclockwise position then I bring in protection and love in a clockwise direction! I guess sometimes I change things up a little bit! When I do this I do it three times!
I feel grounded I did a yoga session and I pulled two cards one for What I am approaching and what to avoid.
Now if there’s some uncertainty, I will ask a question, With my pendulum.
Am I approaching the end of money coming in? I asked because I got a 10 of pentacles I thought 10 meant completion so I am approaching pentacles which means I do have some abundance to encounter or wealth. This deck is the zodiac tarot and it looks like mercury and Virgo is in the home position. This means an excellent position for the planet, and that the organizational essential and rational capacity of Virgo can make the talents of mercury related to communication and interconnection flourish. The Card expresses security, stability and serenity toward our home and family and Work. It pushes us to recognize the riches we already possess and is closely linked to gratitude that feeling of well-being and satisfaction that attracts new blessings like a magnet to the family, a tribe of belonging. It also represents the legacy of joy and wonder that we can receive from our ancestors and continuum of abundance, keywords, wealth, abundance, generosity, wonder, and every day life.
I suppose I don’t need to worry just be happy
Avoid Page of Pentacles which is interesting because this is the next card after the pentacles of 10. Page of pentacles looks grounded. If you look at her body, she looks well rounded. She’s got both feet on the ground. She is the page of pentacles she has within him the characteristics of the air element which is woven with those earth element, intellectual capacity, mental speed in the desire to learn are mixed up with the need to move slowly accurately applying great importance to every detail. For this reason, the card of page of pentacles is the card of an apprentice part excellence. Their print is the studying of a new subject, learning a new art, and the firmly dedicated to their work. The page of pentacle is the earthly state reminds us that the pleasure of the process is more important than the result itself, keyword student apprentice, creative process curiosity !
So I am asking the pendulum what do I need to avoid? Do I need to avoid overworking? Do I need to avoid overworking? Yes
So The springs me to my new adventure that I have that is a creative process. This board was created. It is a penal board not only that I also have been doing some water coloring. I’m not too fond of my last art. I haven’t quite finished but It’s in the works this is my water color I did the other day during Art class💕
I really like the new ideas in the creative phases, authoritarian friendly people!
Makes me feel as though I need new people in my life that will really appreciate what I bring! I was thinking of creating a yoga course with a meet up group! Some new ideas are springing up!

Do I need to show myself more compassion? Yes

I really enjoyed this challenge!!
Jeannie
It’s a spread right here in Spells8. The spread is to give you an idea of who’s there, the traits, how they’re connected to you. I’ve used those spread every time I’ve felt someone reaching out.
CHALLENGE ENTRY
I have tried a number of different divination methods and haven’t felt like I was connecting with much. I’ve got Tarot and oracle decks. Pendulums and even a cup and saucer for reading tea leaves (still haven’t tried it). My heritage is Slavic (Slovakian) on one side and Scots-Irish on the other. I went on a search for a set of Ogham staves, but I wanted a set where each stave is made of the wood that the symbol represents. I finally found some and they arrived just a couple days before this challenge. That seemed like a fortuitous occurrence.
I didn’t know much about ogham so I’ve been doing as much reading as possible. There is so much reading left to do. If anyone is interested, I found a couple of websites that are really good:
Both offer a lot of good information and there are courses if that is the way you learn best.
Tonight I pulled my first stave. The question was whether a multi-decade friendship would survive our working together at the same company (she’s my boss). It has felt like the work relationship is good but the personal friendship seems to be crumbling away.
I got Alder. Below is what I wrote in my divination journal. I hope it isn’t wishful thinking but it felt right immediately.
Here is a photo of the beautiful stave set that I found on Etsy:
Are getting results with your rods? I am plenty good with dowsing but spirit work eludes me. I seem to get glimmers but nothing dependable.
Well done to all those who have shared their divination magick so far - it’s been a lot of fun seeing which methods everyone chose to explore!
This is your heads up that the challenge is approaching its end. It will close to entries tomorrow: Tuesday, March 11 at 7:00 AM ET (Eastern US Time)
If you haven’t already shared an entry with the coven but would like to join in, this is your friendly reminder that you still have time left to do so.
Blessed Be!
Challenge Entry
A couple of nights ago I did a protection spell for me and my son because we are having issues with our neighbors. Not that we are in physical danger, but their negative energy was definitely affecting both of us and things have been escalating. During the meditation part of the spell I had an experience where the flame got really tall, was dancing, and turned dark. I also went into some sort of altered state. Not that I wasn’t aware or in control, but I definitely felt like I was in a trance-like state and the energy I felt going through me was really intense. I asked on our lovely forum what that might have been because I’ve never experienced that before and @Nikki-Phoenix suggested a couple of deity tarot spreads to identify the presence who clearly helped me with the spell.
Even more interesting, my son and I were outside yesterday and there was a definite difference in how the neighbors were acting. The kids who had been bullying my son were suddenly including him and being kind and the parents, who had previously been rude to me, were talking and being friendly. That is the first time in 7 months that has happened. So yeah, the spell clearly worked.
Anyway, I chose the 12 card Deity Tarot Spread from Backyard Banshee. Although, per the text in the article, it ended up being 14 cards, because I drew two additional cards for attributes. Here are the cards I drew:
1, 2 and 3. Attributes: Knight of Pentacles, 9 of Pentacles, and 8 of Pentacles-These cards represent patience, dedication, and craftsmanship — perhaps someone associated with growth, or protection through consistent effort. I mused that it’s maybe a guardian spirit with a steady, grounding presence.
-
Associations: The Fool- The Fool suggests a sense of beginnings, journeys, and a willingness to embrace the unknown. Interesting.
-
Personality Description: Death- I think this is about transformation. This presence may embody cycles of endings and beginnings. They may be tied to rebirth, change, and deep spiritual shifts. This is REALLY starting to resonate. I feel like they have been guiding me for a little while already.
-
Things to Know Right Now: Judgment- Perfectly in alignment with the Death card, I feel like this presence or deity is urging me to awaken to something, and I have been feeling that for awhile now.
-
Things to Know With Working Together: Ace of Wands- So I knew exactly what this one meant. One of the other times I felt this presence strongly, I was doing a candle meditation and I saw a spark that turned into a seed and was growing roots. I kept pulling Ace of Wands for days and I had a dream that showed me the “seed” and the light was going out and I felt like it was telling me to cleanse my energy. I did and I felt much better after. I think this card is telling me to keep that spark alive, and that spark represents my spiritual growth.
-
Things To Avoid/How Not to Work Together: Knight of Swords- Don’t be impulsive or reckless. I think this is saying they prefer consistent dedication, which would line up with the pentacles cards in 1, 2 and 3.
-
What do they want?: The Emperor- Perhaps they want to help me build something strong and protective in my life — a spiritual foundation, boundaries, or personal sovereignty. That is the sense I got when I felt their energy as well.
-
What do I bring to the relationship?: Temperance- I think this card suggests spiritual balance, maybe that I’m capable of working with both light and shadow in a way that honors both?
-
Nature of the relationship moving forward: Knight of Cups- A journey of emotional and spiritual exploration. There’s a sense of deepening intuition, a quest for meaning, and a heartfelt connection forming
-
What offerings are their preference?- 2 of Pentacles- Offer balance — perhaps offerings of both dark and light elements, or things representing duality (like coins, paired items, or balancing physical and spiritual gifts).
-
How to honor them in daily life?- 7 of Wands- I actually heard the message loud in clear in my head when I read this card. Protect my energy.
-
Signs to look out for and how to know they are nearby?: The Chariot- Perhaps symbols of movement and momentum — sudden surges of energy, signs of travel or transportation (like seeing horses, carts, or chariots), or even literal moments of feeling “pushed” forward in life. Or I suppose it could mean moments where I feel a powerful sense of drive and direction.
I was really unsure how to figure out which deity this could be. I started doing research, but there is so much information out there. So I wrote my interpretations out and I asked ChatGPT, based on my interpretation of the cards, which deity might I be dealing with? I also gave a bit of context. This is the response I got:
"Given the earthy, transformative, and structured energy paired with the Fool’s sense of journey and the Death/Judgment cards, this could be a deity like:
- Hecate — as a guide between realms and protector, often tied to transformative magic.
- Hades — a steady, protective, chthonic figure who values boundaries and order.
- The Morrigan — with ties to both death, transformation, and the call to sovereignty.
- Hermes — considering the Fool, Chariot, and movement-oriented themes — though he leans more trickster-like.
It feels like a being who is both protective and transformative — not chaotic, but intense. Does any of this resonate with the energy you felt during your spell? Let me know what stood out to you! "
Then I asked if any of these are associated with owls, because last Full Moon I stepped outside and there was an owl nearby. It was narrowed down to Hecate and I am thinking that is the likely answer here. I am going to place an offering to Hecate on my altar today, in thanks for the successful spell, their ongoing guidance and welcoming their presence.
This whole experience has been really interesting and I feel like this spread just brought it all together. I would have never though of doing a tarot spread to identify the presence I felt. So I really appreciate the suggestion!
Don’t mind my desk. It’s the only space I have to do larger spreads that is safe from my son This one wouldn’t fit on my altar.
