That’s great - please feel free to use that ritual if you wish, but of course there is no pressure to do so.

@Greenbriar you have inspired me to share my new moon ritual coming up on 19th in Australia. I look at the sign it is in ie. Capricorn :capricorn: then look at the traits of that sign and the :crescent_moon: :new_moon_face: then plan around that with my theme, crystals, plants, herbs etc. :folded_hands::two_hearts:

That would be great. I’d love to see what you create.

@Artemisia I really like your challenge entry and how you described the trees characteristics. We have Sycamore trees also in parks in Vienna, they are some of my favorite trees. Not only is the bark really special looking, they also make those fun little seed-balls. And they just have an overall amazing vibe!!!

@Greenbriar what a beautiful ritual! I think, I will give it a go, if I can squeeze it into my schedule. Why are full moons always so busy?!

I´m not very good at astrology, I have to say. It is such an extensive topic to study I never really followed through. So, I might do some astrology inspired paintings this weekend.

That would be a great way to participate in the challenge if you wanted to

:dizzy: This is my entry to the witch challenge :dizzy:
:sun: Taurus Sun
:full_moon: Leo Moon
:dizzy: Scorpio rising

I have painted her (myself, althoug I don´t have hair like that) with the Lion between her legs, because it reminded me of the Tarot card strength. For me, being more on the introvert side of Taurus, I learned that it is important to controll the more extroverted, flashy, life-of-the-party, loves-drama Lion aspect. Because the Lion will agree to things, the Taurus absolutely dislikes. But the Lion qualities are still important, whenever I have to step forward, speak up and make myself heard and seen.
The staff in my right hand is decorated with a Scorpio holding a purple gem and in it I see my connection to my spiritual side and my love for all things occult and mysterious. And spooky.
I had such a relaxing quiet-time painting this, no music, just the candles burning on my altar and some incense. Sacred art time. :folded_hands:

Leo sun :leo: :sun:
Aries moon :aries: :crescent_moon:
Scorpio Rising :scorpio: :up_arrow:

I loooove  astrology.. :dizzy: :ringed_planet: :crescent_moon: :sun: but, I am no expert. A long time ago, I worked for an accomplished astrologer and I picked up some key meanings and it expanded my interest even more; but, I’ve never taken on formal training. A few years ago, I came across several books by Astrologer, Jan Spiller and it changed EVERYTHING. She’s put depth and meaning into these astrology books, so easy to understand— its like a “one-stop-shop”!! I have learned so much more about myself with such crazy accuracy. It’s like it knows my deepest thoughts and tendencies that I one was not consciously aware of (especially through my North Node; a deep dive of 45 pages for each sign found in Astrology for the Soul).

I HIGHLY recommend any or all of these books if you want answers and to delve deeper and find direction through Astrology. :star_struck:

Sun, Moon, and Stars: An Exploration of My Inner Sky

For this challenge, I chose to approach astrology as a living relationship rather than a system to conquer. The stars don’t demand expertise, they ask for attention. So, I will meet them where I am, in my own sacred space, with curiosity and respect.

:dizzy:

My Sun, Moon, and Rising Signs

My Sun is in Sagittarius. :sun:

This is the part of me that seeks meaning above all else. Sagittarius energy shows up in my life as a hunger for truth, perspective, and understanding, not just spiritually, but intellectually. My magic thrives when I’m learning, questioning, and allowing my beliefs to evolve. This placement reminds me that faith and curiosity can coexist, and that my path is not meant to be static.

My Moon is in Scorpio. :astrology_moon:

This is where my emotional and intuitive depths reside. Scorpio Moon energy is private, intense, and transformative. I feel things deeply, often inwardly, and my magic reflects that inward focus. Shadow work, emotional alchemy, ancestral memory, these are not things I approach lightly, but they are where my power renews itself. My Moon teaches me that truth doesn’t always arrive gently, but it is always worth meeting.

My Rising Sign is Capricorn. :capricorn:

This shapes how I move through the world. Capricorn Rising gives me structure, boundaries, and a quiet authority. This is the part of me that understands patience (kind of), responsibility, rather than spectacle. I don’t need my magic to be loud; I need it to be real.

I decided to choose a planet from my birth chart that is especially important to me to be a part of my entry. That planet is Jupiter, the ruler of my Sagittarius Sun. Jupiter represents growth, wisdom, and expansion. Internally and externally. Jupiter reminds me that abundance begins through values, beliefs, and the willingness to trust my own path. Working with Jupiter feels like aligning with a deeper sense of purpose rather than chasing outcomes.

To honor these energies, I will complete a ritual inside my room, which is my sacred space, on the New Moon. This is where I feel safest, most grounded, and most myself. I will light three candles, one for each sign, and place a fourth object to represent Jupiter: a symbol of wisdom and expansion. I will speak softly, naming what each energy offers me and what I am ready to grow into.

I will also pull three tarot cards—one for each placement—asking:
• What does my Sun want me to explore?
• What does my Moon need to release or transform?
• How does my Rising want me to show up moving forward?

And lastly, I will create simple sigils, one inspired by each sign and one for Jupiter. These will not be elaborate, just intuitive markings formed from intention.

For Sagittarius, a sigil representing curiosity and truth-seeking.

For Scorpio, a sigil representing emotional depth and transformation.

For Capricorn, a sigil representing stability and protection.

For Jupiter, a sigil representing growth guided by wisdom.

:sun: :astrology_moon::capricorn:

This challenge reminds me that astrology doesn’t have to be public or performative to be powerful. Magic can exist quietly, behind closed doors, woven into daily life. The stars don’t require permission; they meet us wherever we choose to listen.

I have never felt connected to astrology. It’s too much work just to figure out what doesn’t resonate. So I choose to come at this a different way.

:sun_with_face: Leo

:first_quarter_moon_face: Virgo

:upwards_button: Scorpio

According to the body pic, Leo sun rules the heart, spine, and back. In my youth, I was diagnosed with scoliosis. I grew out of it with the help of a chiropractor.

Virgo moon rules the small intestine, pancreas, spleen, and diaphragm. Could this be a cause of IBS-C? Are the emotions tied to my inability to eat certain things or to evacuate properly? This requests more attention and experimentation. Again, this began early in my life: I was in kindergarten when we discovered IBS-C, though it was never diagnosed because they didn’t have the current alphabet soup. I simply lived with it, avoiding trigger foods. Now that I am older, more trigger foods are appearing.

Scorpio rising rules the colon, rectum, anus, reproductive system, and sweat glands. My hands and feet were the only parts of me which would sweat until I settled into New Mexico at the age of 39. Then my face began crusting with salt during shopping. Now that I’m past menopause, I sweat to the point of getting chapped skin.

It seems there is something physical which doesn’t allow me to follow astrological guidance, and I may have been born with it. Not sure where to go with this idea, but it is worth research.

Thank you, Jeannie! :purple_heart: I think drawing figures is really scary and I always need to remind myself, what my teaching therapist in art-therapy studies would say:

“It doesn´t need to be perfect. It just needs to be done.”

I like your take on the scales! I always get the impression that you can really delve deeply into a topic if you translate it into an image, don’t you?

CHALLENGE ENTRY

Many of you will know that Astrology very much IS my thing , after several posts and guides over the last couple of years. So when i saw this challenge, I rubbed my hands together but then couldnt think of a focus.

After some thought, I decided to look closer at my chart ruler. This is essentially the dominant planet on your natal chart or another way to think of it is as a lens that everything else on the chart passes through. My chart ruler is Mercury.

Mercury governs perception, meaning-making, communication, learning and symbolic thinking:

As chart ruler, this would suggest:

  • An always active mind, even when the body is tired
  • Processing emotions by thinking, talking, writing or researching
  • Curiosity is a need, not a hobby
  • Silence can feel heavy unless it’s chosen
  • Noticing patterns, symbols, words, and timing instinctively

I can identify with all of these. My mind is always racing, thinking about what I am doing next or what the outcome of something might be. My grounded Taurus energy tries to calm down and I can hear the little voice saying park it for now ,but the Mercury is strong here, filtering into the Taurus energy that passes through its lens. I would agree with the processing of emotions too. I’ve got to say them out, describe them and write them down. I then get the Google urge to see how I can fix them. That’s part of my curiosity. I need to know what things do, where things go, how things work and why things happen. That cycles back around to the overactive mind. In terms of silence, i would say I choose it often, perhaps as a means of trying to ground myself a bit more in response to my racing mind! Mercury is certainly an active planet in my daily life.

I then looked at daily habits that I can implement to channel my ruling planet positively:

  • Texting ideas to myself
  • Lists and bullet points, not long texts
  • Light learning - reading snippets and podcasts
  • Talking before deciding
  • Short focused blocks of working
  • Flexible routines that allow movement

Want to know your chart ruler? Its really simple. Look at your rising sign. The planet that rules that sign is your chart ruler.

  • Aries - Mars
  • Taurus - Venus
  • Gemini - Mercury
  • Cancer - Moon
  • Leo - Sun
  • Virgo - Mercury
  • Libra - Venus
  • Scorpio - Pluto
  • Sagittarius - Jupiter
  • Capricorn - Saturn
  • Aquarius - Uranus
  • Pisces - Neptune

Senebty,

Alan

Write know I am manifesting the Mercury energy and also doing my workings for Hecate I also gave her an offering during the hour of Mercury so @Cosmic_Curiosity and I were both working together he he he thank you for the video! Happy Witching hour !! I’m about to refer to your book too!! Love it! Thank you for all of your wisdom!!
I used my drawing as an offering to help me stay in balance and harmony because sometimes I feel of balance.

I used Laboradite for manifestation and blue tourmaline which I felt called too so know I’m figuring out it is a Libra :libra: stone

I feel much better I did ritual took a cleansing shower and also used rose and clove for my workings

Rose for self doubt
Clove for protection and I did a simple chant listening to chants and did burn :fire: some bay leaf. I cleansed my space with thyme on the best time to do your working during the time of Murcury for communication and this is the best time for Hecate. :hekate_wheel:

@Phoenix_Fire,
I really appreciate your poem & it was definitely heartfelt. I loved the wisdom and the authenticity! It helped me realize I’m not alone. I’m going to frame it and keep it so I can revisit. It’s important to have an open heart that’s true wisdom. Without truth are flame inside will wither away! I love how well you kept the reader informed about the nurturing affect nature has and how she’s very much alive and there for us. It was really good  I hope you receive this well. It’s being a teacher to me too.

Yes ,!! I just loved looking at the candles last night and seeing them both burn.!the Scales helped to transmute energy and I felt more centered. More trusting, I saw the flickering light on both sides and the light side beaming before my eyes! And was reminded of how I need to be “balanced” like the scales with its two energies! @Phoenix_Fire poem too!! You both helped my journey throughout! So thank you  makes me so happy! I love your drawings so supportive!
