Hats were always a connection to the stars. There were ancient priests in the Late Bronze Age that wore similar hats:

The Witch hat could be connected to the Phrygian cap :

Hecate was often depicted wearing the Phrygian cap (one of her three aspects)

And I just have to say that there are some GORGEOUS witch hats shared here- I have to say the mushroom ones that @TheMuslimWitch and @Temujin_Calidius shared are calling my name. There’s just something so cozy and cute about mushroom hats
