I received two new tarot decks this week from an indie artist named Wren McMurdo Brignac. One of the decks, The Mother Tarot, has already seemed to give me a sort of “tough love” vibe. I mean seriously, the 7 of Swords has been stalking me in this deck since I got it!
I was looking online for different methods of deck interviews trying to find one that I like or to draw inspiration from while creating my own. Instead, I wound up on Biddy Tarot’s website looking at Birth Cards, Personality Cards, and Soul Cards.
I feel like I may have encountered this before, but I couldn’t remember so I jumped right in to do some math and figure out my cards! I find it fitting to use The Mother Tarot for this, too. She just seems to be…well, she seems like she wants the attention and she has something to say
Birth Card
Biddy Tarot says there are two methods of finding birth cards. Rather than re-hash it for you, I’ll just quote it what her post says.
We each have two (and occasionally three) Tarot Birth Cards, based on the date of our birth, which can be calculated by a number of methods.
Method 1 – Calculating One Birth Card
Add each number in your birthdate. For example, if your birthday is April 7, 1969, you will add 7 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 9 = 36. Any number higher than 21 must be reduced further by adding the two digits together (e.g. 3 + 6 = 9). So, for this example, the Birth Card is card number 9 – the Hermit.
Method 2 – Calculating Two Birth Cards
To determine your Birth Cards, add the numbers in your birth date – i.e. DD + MM + 19 + YY. (For people born from 2000, use 20 instead of 19.) For example, if your birthday is April 7, 1969, you will add 7 + 4 + 19 + 69 = 99
Then add those 2 digits. For example, 9 +9 = 18. This gives us the first Birth Card – the Moon (card number 18). Then, reduce this down to one number for the second Birth Card (e.g. 1 + 8 =9) – the Hermit (card number 9).
If the birthday adds up to a three-digit number (e.g. 27 + 4 + 19 + 79 = 129), the first two digits are considered as one number (e.g. 12) and are added to the third digit (e.g. 12 + 9 = 21).
Method one gave me The Empress.
Method two gave me The World and The Empress – yes, my 2 birth cards are the same as the example…how strange
So, according to this, here is the breakdown of having The Empress and The World as my birth cards according to Biddy Tarot.
You have a gift to share – allow it to come forth and ‘birth’ it into this world. By doing so, you will help many, many people around the world who will benefit from your gifts. You are here to help others create and achieve amazing things in their lives.
Then I calculated my Personality and Soul cards to see what I get there. That method is different.
Method 3 – Calculating A Personality And Soul Card
This method is used by Mary Greer. Instead of Birth Cards, she refers to the pairs as Personality Cards and Soul Cards. Personality Cards represent what we have entered this lifetime to learn, while Soul Cards represent what our sole purpose is across multiple lifetimes.
To determine your Personality card, add together the day, month and year of your birthdate. For example, if your birthday is April 7, 1969, you will add 7 + 4 + 1969 = 1980. Then, add the digits – 1 + 9 + 8 + 0 = 18. Therefore, the Personality card is the Moon.
The Soul card is then created by adding together the digits of the Personality card. For example, 1 + 8 = 9 (the Hermit). If the Personality card is a single digit, the Soul and Personality cards are the same.
And you know what? It’s the same as my birth card. Only one number → 3
It looks like I have a lot of Empress energy for my birth cards. I mean, she’s everywhere! I wonder if, because my personality and soul cards are the same, does that mean that I didn’t learn my life lesson in my past life? I’m gonna have to think about that one!
Have you calculated your birth cards? What are they? And do you resonate with the meaning?
