In this post, we will take a moment to explore what a Full Moon is and how the sign of Libra might affect the energy of this moon. As usual, there will be links, ideas, and inspiration for spells, rituals, and meditations!

What is a Full Moon?

A full moon happens when the moon is directly opposite the sun from the Earth. This means that the side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear as a complete circle of light in the night sky.
As with anything in witchcraft, there are many different beliefs on what type of magick should be done during a Full Moon. Some witches believe banishing should be done. Others believe intentions should be set for manifestations. Still, others (such as myself) believe that the Full Moon is the best time for literally any spell you want because the energy is at its highest.
During the Full Moon, the Triple Goddess becomes the Mother of all beings. It’s a great time to work on intuition, spells of love, and prosperity. The Full Pink Moon
In the Northern Hemisphere, the Full Moon of April is often called the Pink Moon. Why? Well, during this time of year, a pink moss called Creeping Phlox begins to bloom in many different shades of pink. It would be pretty cool if the moon was actually pink, but alas we must settle for pink flowers and moss. If that does not fit with your region, that’s okay! Some alternative names for this Full Moon include Breaking Ice Moon, Frog Moon, and Budding Moon. You can also choose a name that fits better with your area.
The Full Sturgeon Moon
If you live in the Southern Hemisphere, you will have a different Full Moon name because the names for Full Moons are given based on the season. You are on the cusp of Fall – cooler weather, harvest time, and the beginning dying of the vegetation. The Sturgeon Moon ushers in the return of the sturgeon to the area, and while there may be no sturgeon in your area, you can honor the return of whatever fish are in your area. Other names for this Full Moon include Grain Moon, Red Moon, or Corn Moon. If those don’t fit for your region, feel free to give the Full Moon a more suitable name.
The Sign of Libra
The diplomat of the signs, Libras tend to choose their words and actions carefully to keep the balance on all sides. They seek compromise and truth, remaining open to all sides of a situation until they see a clear answer. Balance is very important to a Libra, so important that it is usually the end go in everything: relationships, work, and home life. A Libra will seek out harmony and peace, choosing to make decisions with logic rather than emotion. However, the desire to hear all sides of an argument can make Libra indecisive! They will need to be very careful not to get stuck in this cycle of diplomacy. Otherwise, they may end up stagnating and not making any decisions at all.

Magick for the Libra Moon
Libra is a sign of balance – any spells, rituals, or meditations pertaining to balance, justice, and temperance will be aided by the energy of this Full Moon. Remember that these concepts affect every aspect of our lives. Our relationships need balance, the decisions we make need justice, and temperance affects the entire world. Reflect on what sort of balance you need to achieve in your life and choose a related activity.

Divination For Balance
Call on the symbology of the scales with this simple tarot spread. Use tarot, oracle, or whatever other method you choose to represent yourself and what may have you out of balance. Just three cards is all you need – one to represent you in the situation and two cards that show what you can do to embrace balance.
Harmonizing Anointing Oil
When working your spells and rituals for balance, consider adding in this harmonizing anointing oil! Dab some on your candles, your altar, yourself, or anything else that needs a bit of harmony. With some simple ingredients and your energy, you can craft this wonderful oil!
Divine Justice
While we can always hope that the justice systems we humans have put in place to maintain fairness in our societies will work properly, these systems don’t address the spiritual side. For a witch or other spiritual practitioner, there are a great many resources available to help you in your holistic quest for justice.
Remember, the energy of the Full Moon isn’t just for the one day that it reaches its peak. Personally, I give myself a three-day window for the Full Moon: the day before, the day of, and the day after. This works well for my practice and it may work for yours, too!
