What is a Full Moon?

If you need a recap of a Full Moon, click here! 🌕

A full moon happens when the moon is directly opposite the sun from the Earth. This means that the side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear as a complete circle of light in the night sky.

As with anything in witchcraft, there are many different beliefs on what type of magick should be done during a Full Moon. Some witches believe banishing should be done. Others believe intentions should be set for manifestations. Still, others (such as myself) believe that the Full Moon is the best time for literally any spell you want because the energy is at its highest.

During the Full Moon, the Triple Goddess becomes the Mother of all beings. It’s a great time to work on intuition, spells of love, and prosperity. The Power of all Magic is truly at its peak, this lunar phase is key to either accept or reject projects, transformations, and manifestations that we initiated during the New Moon. - Spells and Things To Do on a Full Moon | Spells8

The Snow Moon

February’s Full Moon is known as the Snow Moon in the Northern Hemisphere. This is because, in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere, there is still snow on the ground (or it is still cold for the area). According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, “Captain Jonathan Carver, who had visited with the Naudowessie (Dakota), wrote that the name used for this period was the Snow Moon, 'because more snow commonly falls during this month than any other in the winter.'”

I can tell you for where I am right now, there has been snow on the ground for weeks because it hasn’t been warm enough to melt it all! I’m lucky I haven’t turned into a popsicle! :joy:

Snow Cleansing Ritual for February’s Full Snow Moon

In the Southern Hemisphere, this Full Moon may be known as the Grain Moon, the Sturgeon Moon, the Red Moon, or many others. Feel free to adapt this ritual to your local area or take the Full Sturgeon Moon Ritual and make it work for you!

The Sign of Leo

Leo is the Lion of the zodiac, a fixed fire sign ruled by The Sun. This sign is outgoing and extroverted, a sign that loves to live life to the fullest. Leo is loyal and often exudes a sense of ambition and drive. This carries them forward even through the most difficult of times. They tend to be proud, sometimes to their detriment, letting their ego drive them rather than their logic or heart. Leo enjoys being in the spotlight, though, and will do whatever it takes to have the attention when they want it.

Magick for the Leo Snow Moon

Combining the flamboyant energy of Leo with the soothing energy of the Snow Moon might seem counterintuitive – one is soft and quiet while the other is loud and proud. The Full Snow Moon in Leo might be a good time for you to balance these two sides of yourself. If you tend to be more quiet and reserved, seeking out places where you can be proud might benefit you. It will allow you to step out of your comfort zone and embrace a different side of yourself. Spellwork involving friendship and confidence will be good for you!

On the other side of that, if you find yourself tending to be more loud and proud, you might benefit from moments of stillness the Snow Moon can bring you. Rather than being the center of attention, the Snow Moon could be a good time for you to let someone else have the spotlight they deserve. Spellwork involving community building and friendships will be good for you!

Personal Ego Check-In

We can all use a good ego check from time to time – the Snow Moon in Leo is a great time to do this. Remember that Leo is a sign of pride, both positive and negative. Use the energy of this Full Moon to check in with your values and your lifestyle. Do they match? Are you living your truth, or are you living in a way that protects your pride? Grab a journal and meditate on these questions. You may be surprised at what you find!

Remember, the energy of the Full Moon isn’t just for the one day that it reaches its peak. Personally, I give myself a three-day window for the Full Moon: the day before, the day of, and the day after. This works well for my practice and it may work for yours, too!

Do you plan to work with this Full Moon? What are your favorite ways to work with a Full Moon?

I would love it if the same was done for the southern hemisphere as the northern hemisphere activities just don’t apply to our full moon here. :frowning:

Ok. We have previously posted a Full Sturgeon Moon, but it’s in Aquarius:

Is it possible to mix and match?

@julie8 Georgia has a great link for you there - that post has lots of fun activity ideas for the Full Sturgeon Moon! And since it will also be in Leo, you can use The Sign of Leo information above for the Zodiac/astrology aspects.

Wishing you a blessed Full Sturgeon Moon, Julie! :full_moon: :fish: :sparkles:

@MeganB Thank you for putting this together, Megan! We haven’t had too much snow this year, but we got buried this weekend. It’s a real winter wonderland outside right now - just in time for the Snow Moon, I’d say! :snowflake:

May it be a blessed moon for everyone  :full_moon_with_face:

My ritual for every Full Moon starts with waiting and watching for Her to rise by the warmth of a small fire pit in our garden. I lay out an altar cloth, cast a circle, recite the Charge of the Goddess and Richard Rudd’s Our Lady’s Prayer. As the moon becomes visible, I enjoy basking in Her radiance sky clad, drumming and chanting to create a cone of power, recapping intentions set in the new moon meditation. Lately, my intention has been simple: Let there be Love, Let there be Light, Let there be Joy on Earth! As power builds, I release it. We join in a blessing of cakes and wine, close the circle, and sit in the frequencies of Her energy.:heartpulse::star2::cyclone:

Happy Full Moon :full_moon: my friends! :revolving_hearts:

I have microbiology lab this even and then some studying to do after, but I’m hoping to get to my manifestation box this evening. Since I’ve got some time right now, I’m going to do the Full Snow Moon tarot spread that @Solasta_Amore created!

I should have never pulled the cards… :joy:

Hi Julie! While the Snow Moon probably doesn’t apply in the Southern Hemisphere, the related activities for the Full Moon in Leo should still work. The only one that would be adjusted is the tarot reading in this particular post. I do include information about the moon names in the Southern Hemisphere in every Full Moon post, though I will try to make that clearer going forward. Thank you for your feedback! It has given me some ideas moving forward about better serving our friends in the Southern Hemisphere, too

You’re very welcome! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: We’re getting more snow tonight and tomorrow :snowflake: and I’m running out of places to put it when we shovel because it’s not melting! :joy:

That sounds like a beautiful ritual, Denise – thank you for sharing with us! :pink_heart:
