What is a Full Moon?

If you need a recap of a Full Moon, click here! 🌕

A full moon happens when the moon is directly opposite the sun from the Earth. This means that the side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear as a complete circle of light in the night sky.

As with anything in witchcraft, there are many different beliefs on what type of magick should be done during a Full Moon. Some witches believe banishing should be done. Others believe intentions should be set for manifestations. Still, others (such as myself) believe that the Full Moon is the best time for literally any spell you want because the energy is at its highest.

During the Full Moon, the Triple Goddess becomes the Mother of all beings. It’s a great time to work on intuition, spells of love, and prosperity. The Power of all Magic is truly at its peak, this lunar phase is key to either accept or reject projects, transformations, and manifestations that we initiated during the New Moon. - Spells and Things To Do on a Full Moon | Spells8

The Wolf Moon

January’s Full Moon is often known as the Wolf Moon. This is because the Native American tribe this name comes from would often notice the howling of wolves during January. This mostly takes place in the Northern parts of North America, though it may happen elsewhere, too. There are other names for January’s Full Moon, though. These include the Center Moon, marking the halfway point of winter, as well as the Cold Moon and the Hard Moon.

Wolf Moon Ritual & Spell

Names for the Full Moons are often switched around in the Southern Hemisphere due to the seasons being opposite. In the Southern Hemisphere, you may know this moon as the Thunder Moon, the Mead Moon, or the Buck Moon. Since the names are traditional for the Northern Hemisphere, it may make more sense for you to turn to your local region for the Full Moon name. That is perfectly okay, too!

The Sign of Cancer :cancer:

The Zodiac sign of Cancer is a cardinal water sign ruled by the Moon. Cancer is heavily tied to emotions and intuition, letting things ebb and flow like the fluidity of the water it is connected to. Cancers are sentimental and enjoy spending time at home, a place that offers them safety and comfort. They love deeply and are loyal to the people they care about. Cancers tend to be highly empathic, able to sense the energies of those around them and intuit how they feel and what they need. This makes them wonderful friends and partners. However, these crab-like Cancers also have their hard exterior. They may appear clingy and overly emotional if they let their energy run amok.

Remember, the energy of the Full Moon isn’t just for the one day that it reaches its peak. Personally, I give myself a three-day window for the Full Moon: the day before, the day of, and the day after. This works well for my practice and it may work for yours, too!

Hmmmm lots to consider here. Still have a few days before the full moon, so I’ll review this in the morning. I will say Reconcile with a Friend grabbed my attention

The Wolf Moon is one of my favorites - it comes during a quiet time of the year, when the holidays are behind us and the world is cold and resting. Paired with the energy of Cancer, it feels like a great time for healing work!

Thank you for the moon info and the spell suggestions, Megan

Wishing everyone a blessed Full Wolf Moon in Cancer! :wolf: :full_moon: :sparkles:

Ah I hadn’t read throughly through this last night, but I’ve picked the perfect thing for me!

Between an elbow injury, parents in the hospital, and the holidays, I haven’t been walking shelter dogs twice a week. Tomorrow is the perfect day (other than the cold temps) to get back to it! I’ll dress warm, carry some crystals with me and work some magick on the trails.

@BryWisteria – I think healing work is a great thing to do during this Wolf Moon, as you said, since it’s in Cancer  I like the connection between it being a quiet time of year for resting with the loyalty and intuitive nature of the wolf.

@Artemisia – Ohh, that’s a great idea! It’ll give you a chance to get back to serving your community in a way that works for you, but you can also sprinkle in some magic along the way!

Here’s an accountability picture for myself & my goal of working my manifestation box every Full Moon (yes, I did it this morning because it still counts and I could still see the moon out of my office window at 7am lol) :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I pulled a card for the working when I was finished and it was a pretty good omen, I think! I also did the Full Moon reading this morning, so here’s that, too.

It’s always a little uncanny for me how well my readings go hand-in-hand with my yearly reading and monthly readings… The card that sticks out to me the most is the aspect of myself that needs to be mothered represented by Strength Reversed. I won’t get into it too deeply but mothering wasn’t something I received a lot of as a kid. This part of myself is related to my self-doubt and inner strength, both things that need to be worked on. It looks like I may go back and do my inner child spread I created a while ago and dig deeper into this.

Happy Full Moon, friends! :revolving_hearts:

Thank you!
