Herbal magic and astrological correspondences

I was wondering about the correspondences between herbs and astrology.

To what extent does planets, sign and element impact the use of the herb?

I’m currently studying astrology and I am matching it up with my current herbal magic knowledge, which is proving to be fascinating, I was hoping for a little more insight though.

Thank you xxx

I don’t know that much about astrology, but I do know of a book that might help you out. Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs has all sorts of information about the herbs, including some stuff about the astrology with them, if I can remember it right.

Good luck! Sorry, I wasn’t more helpful!

Astrology is FASCINATING! As with everything, there are herbs, crystals, elements etc. It will take some digging to get to the particulars, but for example: I am Aquarius. Aquarius is an Air sign, so (obviously) an Air element. It is also a fixed sign, which can make us stubborn.

  • (January 20 – February 18):
  • Crystals: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Malachite, Labradorite.
  • Herbs: Lavender, Valerian, Passionflower, Chamomile.
  • Birthstone: Garnet: physical, emotional and spiritual stability, it anchors you.

Hi @LilithKitty,

That’s a great question. For me, I view correspondences as a way to further enhance and direct spellwork. We don’t need anything other than our willpower to cast, but by incorporating certain influences, we can get help our spell manifest faster, stronger, and in more impactful ways. This can be done by mindfully including certain herbs, aligning casting time with moon phases or planetary movements, using certain crystals, etc.

So which herbs match up with which astrological influences? You’ve already got some great ideas from Amethyst and Water, if I can add a few more, I have a list of Zodiac teas made from herbs you may find helpful. A note that these come from a Slavic pagan/herbalist practice (and correspondences tend to vary from one tradition to another). Feel free to take a look and use any that resonate with you!

Blessed be! :herb: :star:

medical astrology + herbalism

Enhancing the Healing Power of Herbalism With the Precision of Medical Astrology

Most people don’t realize it, but astrology was once an integral part of Western herbalism and the historical practice of medicine.

The medical branch of astrology gives you a detailed map of someone’s unique physiological landscape, patterns of disharmony, and how the health of the body is intricately woven into the mind, heart, and soul.

Medical astrology reveals which plants are best to support the unique person, not just their malady. It’s a map of holistic wellness, potent herbal pharmacy, strategic formulation, and ultimately helps you to restore the whole person with the whole plant.

The synergy of medical astrology and clinical herbalism is the ultimate map for preventative, rejuvenative, and transformational healing.
