Learning Astrology 101: The Asteroids Part 2 - Pallas

Welcome to the second of 5 articles exploring the asteroids of astrology.

Last week, we explored nurturing Ceres. If you missed it, you can catch up by clicking the link below:

A reminder of the asteroids purpose in Astrology:

Recently, the asteroids have gained more prominence in astrology. These are objects that lie in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. There are millions of asteroids here so we cannot refer to them all. We use the four main asteroid: Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta. Technically, these are not all asteroids. Some were but have been reclassified while the classification of some is still under debate. However, in Astrology, we call them all asteroids in the same way we call the Sun and Moon planets.

The asteroids are named after female mythological figures so I like to think of them as bringing an abundance of feminine energy traits that balance to the mainly masculine energy exerted by the planets. This allows for well-rounded understanding of the birth chart.

This article will explore the key meanings behind the asteroid called Pallas and will help you to locate it on your birth chart.

The Astronomy

In Astronomy, Pallas was the second asteroid to be discovered in the asteroid belt. It was discovered in March 1802 and is one of the largest objects in the belt. It takes less than 8 hours to rotate on its axis and takes over four years to orbit the Sun.

The Mythology

The Greek Goddess Pallas Athena (Roman: Minerva) was often just referred to as just Athena.

Zeus (Roman: Jupiter) received a prophecy telling him that a child born of the Goddess Metis would overthrow him. To prevent this from happening, Zeus ate Metis, not knowing that she was already pregnant. Inside Zeus’ body, the child grew. Zeus began to suffer terrible headaches and had the God of Blacksmiths open his head. From here, Athena emerged, fully grown and dressed in armour, symbolising her sheer strength and strategic powers. She is often shown with an owl as a symbol of her wisdom.

The Astrology

In Astrology, Pallas influences our strategic approaches, problem- solving and creative thinking. It oversees our artistic creativity and attitude to accomplishments gained through wisdom. Pallas encourages us to find creative solutions to problems, using tact over physical force. Diplomacy is also overseen by Pallas, who encourages us to win in ways that do not harm others (e.g. through innovative thinking and sound judgements). The sign where Pallas resides gives us clues about how we focus, strategise and reach solutions, Pallas encourages us to tackle the problems we face with logic and intuition. Be wary that Pallas can bring struggles, conflict, legal battles and injustice. Ultimately, Pallas is how we use feminine energy traits to plan and solve the problems that we are faced with.

These descriptions show how you may tackle problems and the strengths that you may display when faced with challenges. It also shows the limitations of your problem solving approaches. Remember that these are general interpretations and that the influence of your personal Pallas will depend on many factors, including house placements and interactions with other planets.

Sign Interpretations

Aries

You are likely to be a natural strategist who thrives on taking action and using your initiative. You approach problems with courage and creativity, often diving into challenges headfirst. Your solutions are direct and bold, relying on instinct and reaction rather than thorough planning. You excel in situations that require quick thinking or competitive energy. However, your drive for immediate results may lead to impulsive decisions or difficulty collaborating with others who prefer a slower approach.

Taurus

This suggests that you take a steady, practical approach to problem-solving. You prefer tangible, well-thought-out strategies that build security and stability over time. Your creativity often emerges in physical or artistic ways, such as crafting solutions or using resources wisely. You are skilled at enduring through long challenges and seeing projects through to completion. However, your reliance on traditional methods or resistance to change may limit your ability to adapt to new ways of thinking.

*Gemini

You’re likely to have a sharp mind, a strong curiosity and highly adaptable nature. You excel at gathering information, analysing your options and communicating solutions clearly. Your problem-solving style likely involves brainstorming, collaboration and using humour to diffuse any tension that arises. You’re likely to be skilled at multitasking and finding creative ways to connect ideas. However, you may have a tendency to jump between thoughts, which can make it challenging to focus on one task or follow through with a single plan.

Cancer

You are a deeply intuitive and emotionally intelligent strategist. You solve problems by tuning into the needs and feelings of others, often focusing on creating safe and nurturing environments. Your protective nature drives you to shield loved ones and find solutions that bring emotional security. You excel in roles that involve caregiving, teaching, or standing up for the vulnerable. However, your personal attachment to situations may cloud your judgment or make it hard to approach challenges objectively.

Leo

You approach challenges with confidence, creativity, and flair. You show strength at devising bold, inspiring strategies that encourage others to follow your lead. Your solutions often emphasise individuality, self-expression and a touch of drama to ensure they leave a lasting impact. You thrive in leadership roles where your charisma can shine. However, you may struggle with prioritising personal recognition over group success or overlooking practical details in favour of grand ideas.

Virgo

You demonstrate a precise, analytical approach to problem-solving. You can break down complex issues into smaller, manageable parts and find efficient, logical solutions. Your strategies are practical and detail-oriented. You thrive in roles that require organisation, critical thinking or a focus on health and well-being. However, your perfectionism may cause you to overanalyse or delay making decisions.

Libra

You are a natural mediator and strategist who seeks balance, fairness, and harmony in all situations. You understand different perspectives and find compromises that benefit everyone involved. Your solutions to problems often involve collaboration, aesthetic refinement or creating peaceful environments. However, your desire to maintain harmony can lead to indecision or avoidance of conflict, which might hinder progress.

Scorpio

You display a penetrating, intuitive approach to problem-solving. You excel at uncovering hidden truths, navigating emotional depths and transforming challenges into opportunities for growth. Your strategies may be secretive and focused on creating deep, lasting change. You thrive in situations that require resilience and resourcefulness. However, your tendency to control outcomes or guard your plans closely may alienate others or create unnecessary tension.

Sagittarius

You approach challenges with optimism, vision, and a philosophical mindset. You are skilled at seeing the big picture and crafting strategies that align with higher ideals or long-term goals. Your problem-solving style often involves teaching, exploration or expanding boundaries. You thrive in situations that require inspiration and a forward-thinking perspective. However, your focus on ideals may cause you to overlook practical details or short-term necessities.

Capricorn

You are a disciplined and goal-oriented strategist. You show strength at creating long-term plans and implementing them with patience and determination. Your solutions are practical, structured, and rooted in tradition or established systems. You thrive in leadership roles or situations that require endurance and responsibility. However, your focus on rules and hierarchy may limit your openness to unconventional ideas.

Aquarius

You approach challenges with originality, innovation, and a focus on the greater good. You excel at thinking outside the box and devising strategies that embrace progress and inclusivity. Your problem-solving style often involves technology, group collaboration or advocating for social change. However, your preference for abstract ideas or detachment from personal emotions may make it difficult to address individual concerns.

Pisces

This gives you a deeply intuitive, creative approach to problem-solving. You excel at finding solutions through imagination, spirituality, and emotional understanding. Your strategies often involve healing, artistic expression, or tapping into unseen realms of insight. You thrive in situations that require compassion and adaptability. However, your tendency to idealise or avoid practical details may make it difficult to implement your ideas fully. Grounding your creativity in realistic steps will help you bring your visionary strategies to life.

Next week, I will post a similar article exploring the asteroid Juno.

Pallas in Aquarius resonates with me! :aquarius: :sparkles:

The asteroids are a new area of astrology to explore and I’m loving the journey so far. Thank you for sharing about Ceres and Pallas, Alan - I’ll look forward to learning about Juno and Vesta too! :stars: :grinning:

My Pallas is in Sag. It sounds good. I hope it is true for me.

I’d say this sounds like me, for sure! Besides my knack for clairvoyance and pretty spot-on intuition, I’ve always been able to just tell things or know things about people and places. It’s come in handy quite a bit when I get a gut feeling about someone or someplace, and it’s helped me solve my fair share of issues.

I mean… I’m getting ready for nursing school so that tracks 100% :joy:

Thanks for putting this together, @Cosmic_Curiosity :tada: it’s wonderful!

I would say this fits me pretty well. Not all of it but incan certainly see a lot of this in me.

Looks like we have another one in common! :smile_cat:

I do, always have… probably why I excel at programming. It’s a good approach when working alone, but working with others I still need to give them more space. The intuitive part can work with others if they get it, otherwise we’re going to have a terrible time together

I am in love with the unconscious, personal and collective :black_heart: One day I’m going to grow up to be a real shaman – I hope!

Have to say that these traits have served me well, growing up as a neurodivergent lesbian trans girl witch in a small village with heavy military presence and remains of the Satanic Panic from the 80’s–90’s  No one knew me :ninja: and I still prefer to regulate fine grain which parts of my weirdness I let each person I’m interacting with see.

This part is particularly interesting… I have to meditate on it and see what comes up!

It looks to me like you grew up in a situation which required resilience and resourcefulness. That means you know how to handle the specific stressors caused by such situations. It wasn’t supportive, but it taught you how to react so you can survive. Such memories do affect who we are on a deep level.

You are beautiful as you are!

True… I didn’t exactly thrive, but I kept what was dear to me close to my heart, and didn’t let anyone break me. I kept my still fragile parts closely wrapped so that they could grow, and hopefully one day blossom. And I’m happy to say that they’re doing that today :pink_heart:

It really comes to show how much difference a supportive environment or a lack of can make. Compensating for hostility takes a lot of energy and gives us defense mechanisms that need to be carefully disarmed when it’s safe again, and it leaves a lot of stuck energy to be processed too. These body-minds we have are such clever creatures, and can adapt to a lot, but that also shapes our growth for better or worse (usually a mix of both).

Awww thank you, that means a lot :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: You’re beautiful to me as well :face_holding_back_tears:

I usually use the rainbow to symbolize that things are improving. Others have other definitions. @CelestiaMoon you are showing all the good!
