A reminder of the asteroids purpose in Astrology:

Recently, the asteroids have gained more prominence in astrology. These are objects that lie in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. There are millions of asteroids here so we cannot refer to them all. We use the four main asteroid: Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta. Technically, these are not all asteroids. Some were but have been reclassified while the classification of some is still under debate. However, in Astrology, we call them all asteroids in the same way we call the Sun and Moon planets.

The asteroids are named after female mythological figures so I like to think of them as bringing an abundance of feminine energy traits that balance to the mainly masculine energy exerted by the planets. This allows for well-rounded understanding of the birth chart.

This article will explore the key meanings behind another asteroid called Chiron and will help you to locate it on your birth chart. Chiron is not mentioned in the list above along with the other 4 asteroids. This is because it is not located in the main asteroid belt like the others are. However, it is probably more widely known and used in astrology than the others.

The Astronomy

In Astronomy, Chiron was discovered in 1977 and was classed as an asteroid. Now, it is classified as a minor planet (or even a comet by some). Chiron lies between Saturn and Uranus and takes 51 years to orbit the Sun.

The Mythology

Chiron the centaur was rejected by his parents because of his appearance. He grew to be skilled in medicine and warfare. This attracted many students, including Jason and Hercules. One day, Chiron was accidentally struck by a poisoned arrow, fired by Hercules. Chiron writhed in agony but could not cure his pain. Ironically, his skills could cure others but not himself. Being immortal, he was destined to suffer forever. Chiron prayed to Zeus to end his pain. Zeus took pity on the centaur and removed his immortality, placing him instead among the stars.

The Astrology

In Astrology, Chiron is called The Wounded Healer. On our birth chart, it points to areas where we may have experienced trauma, either in this life or in a past one. This can be a literal experience or a subconscious fear. Chiron points to our vulnerabilities, weaknesses and areas of low self-esteem that we must confront and overcome. However, we can learn from these and become stronger. We can also use the knowledge and experiences gained to help others. Essentially, we become the wounded healers, learning from our traumas and showing empathy to others because we know how they are feeling. Chiron encourages holistic healing by understanding our traumas, their impacts and how to overcome them. This allows us to find a greater balance between our mental and physical health. Chiron governs healing in general as well as holistic healing, which is becoming more and more popular.

Chiron in the Signs

These descriptions show your possible wound, the possible origin of this wound and how it may be healed. Remember that these are general interpretations and that the influence of your personal Juno will depend on many factors, including house placements and interactions with other planets.

Sign Interpretations

Aries

This placement suggests a wound related to personal identity and self-worth. You may struggle with feelings of inadequacy and an inability to assert yourself for fear of rejection or failure. This wound may have originated from early experiences where your sense of individuality was dismissed or criticised, leaving a lasting impact on your confidence. Healing comes through building courage and learning to trust your instincts. Learn to take risks and affirm your unique identity to find empowerment and rediscover your sense of self. You can then help others to uncover their individuality and assert themselves.

Taurus

This location for Chiron may highlight a wound tied to security and self-worth. It often manifests as a fear of instability or inadequacy in your life. You may have experienced some sort of deprivation, perhaps emotional, financial or physical. This could have led to a scarcity mindset and feelings of unworthiness. Healing begins by reconnecting with your sense of value and cultivating a sense of abundance that goes beyond money and material items. By finding gratitude in life’s simple pleasures and building self-sufficiency, you can transform your fear of lacking into stability and assist others in doing the same.

Gemini

With Chiron in Gemini, your wound may revolve around issues involving communication, learning and feeling understood. You may struggle with self-doubt in your intellectual abilities or fear being dismissed or ridiculed for your ideas. This wound typically stems from early experiences of being silenced or misunderstood, perhaps in an education setting. Healing involves embracing your unique voice and learning to express yourself authentically. Trusting in the value of your ideas and ability to communicate will unlock the power of your words and intellect. You can then teach others the importance of clear communication.

Cancer

Chiron in Cancer reflects a deep emotional wound related to insecurity and a difficulty feeling at home within yourself or with others. Early experiences of emotional neglect, lack of nurturing or unstable family dynamics may have left you feeling detached and vulnerable. There’s a feel of not fitting in. Healing comes from self-nurture and creating a safe emotional environment. Embrace your vulnerability and seek connections that resonate with your true self. This may help you to find the sense of belonging you long for. You can then offer a safe space to help others though emotionally difficult times.

Leo

When Chiron meets the lion, it suggests that your wound may be rooted in fears of being unworthy of love or recognition. You may struggle with self-expression or feel overshadowed, rejected, or humiliated in your attempts to shine and be recognised. This pain often stems from childhood experiences where your creative or expressive nature was dismissed or undervalued by those closest to you. Healing involves reclaiming your creative self-expression and rediscovering the joy of being seen and showcasing your talents without relying on external validation. Embrace your inner light to inspire others to shine and show off their talents and creativity as well.

Virgo

This placement may highlight a wound connected to perfectionism and an overly critical inner voice. You may feel deeply insecure about your flaws and may consistently strive for unattainable standards of perfection. This wound usually originates from early experiences of being judged or pressured to excel in ways that felt overwhelming. You may have also received more criticism than praise in your younger years. Healing comes from learning to embrace your imperfections as part of being human. Release the need for control to help you find peace and self-acceptance. Encourage others to accept, even embrace, their imperfections and to reach for realistic goals.

Libra

Chiron in Libra might indicate that you have some deep-seated wounds related to your relationships. This could come from a fear of rejection or a tendency to rely too much on others for validation. You may have faced experiences like betrayal, unreturned love, or even feeling overlooked in your partnerships. To heal, it’s important to focus on finding balance and nurturing self-love. Learning to appreciate your individuality while still building healthy connections with others. When you feel whole and secure, you open yourself up to giving and receiving love freely. You are then in a better position to help others cultivate balanced and harmonious relationships.

Scorpio

Chiron in Scorpio represents a deep emotional wound linked to trust, power, and intimacy. If you have this placement, you might struggle with fears of betrayal, abandonment, or loss, often rooted in past traumatic experiences that have left lasting scars. Healing from these wounds involves embracing your vulnerability and learning to trust yourself and those around you. It’s important to transform your pain into empowerment, recognising that true intimacy with a soulmate can be a source of regeneration. By focusing on this journey, you can build resilience and personal strength, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and trusting relationship with yourself and others. You can also guide others successfully through periods of transformation and help them to understand their emotional depth.

Sagittarius

This placement for Chiron in points to a deep-seated wound related to your beliefs and sense of purpose. You might find yourself questioning your faith or feeling disconnected from what you once held true. This struggle often arises from experiences of rigid beliefs or limited opportunities to explore the world around you. To heal, it’s important to reconnect with your sense of wonder and curiosity. Embrace your personal truths and seek out experiences that broaden your horizons. Trusting your unique journey will help you rediscover meaning and fulfilment in your life. You can then offer wisdom and encouragement to others who seek freedom and meaning.

Capricorn

When Chiron is in Capricorn, your wound is likely to revolve around issues of achievement and recognition. You might grapple with feelings of inadequacy or a fear of failure, often rooted in early experiences of being given excessive responsibility or being put under pressure to succeed. Healing in this case involves redefining what success means on a personal level and fostering self-compassion. Aim to learn to value yourself beyond your accomplishments and try to appreciate the journey rather than just the destination. You can then inspire others to see beyond the measures of self worth beyond material success.

Aquarius

This placement suggests a wound related to feeling misunderstood, isolated or out of place within groups or society. There may be a feeling of being left out or unaccepted because of who you are. This often arises from past experiences of rejection or alienation for being different, unconventional or daring to challenge the status quo. You should embrace your uniqueness and wear it as a badge of honour. Find a group or community where you feel accepted and valued. Trust in your visionary ideas and recognise that you can make meaningful contributions to the larger community. This will then allow you to support others in accepting themselves and in finding their own sense of belonging.

Pisces

If you have Chiron in Pisces, your wound might stem from feeling spiritually disconnected and struggling with feelings of helplessness or victimhood. You may find it hard to set boundaries or trust in the natural flow of life, often as a result of past experiences like loss, betrayal, or emotional turmoil. To heal, it’s important to reconnect with your spiritual essence and learn to establish healthy boundaries. Aim to embrace compassion, surrender to the universe, and trust in a greater plan. Find strength in your vulnerability and allow your experiences to help you learn and grow. This will allow you to offer spiritual support and compassion to others who feel disconnected.

There it is: the whole reason the rest of my horoscope doesn’t work for me. Tada!

You are a champion for the underdog, always ready to remind others of how special and important they are. However, you can have trouble absorbing that lesson yourself, and you may go through many years of telling yourself that you count and that you sometimes need to prioritize yourself to feel whole. You know it in your head, but it’s hard to practice. Keep trying!
