Thank you @BryWisteria ! I enjoy your summaries and your invitations to start a new week. It’s very positive.

My week is starting well. I managed to get several things off the ā€˜TODO’ list and one more important thing left - so I’ll drag it out. I have to get our car license renewed and our DMV can be a pill.

You’re welcome, Dan - I happy you enjoy the weekly updates! :newspaper:

Congrats on everything you managed to check off the To-Do List and wishing you all the best at the DMV. May it be a quick and easy trip, with no line and an associate who knows what they’re doing! :raising_hands:

I enjoy these Merry Meet Monday threads, as well. Always informative and a great way to chat with everyone about their upcoming week’s activities.

I almost think of it as the Coven’s water cooler.

Congrats to @Selena-Paloma! You keep sharing, girl.

Poor @dan3 - a trip to the DMV is never fun! I share @BryWisteria’s wishes for a short line and knowledgeable folks at the counter. …Hey, one can dream, right?

I don’t have a lot on tap for this week. My garden is on the wane now, and I’m spending more time doing pruning and cleanup than watering. Our nights have gotten chilly and my backyard feathered friends are suddenly ravenous! This is the usual crowd, too, not those maybe prepping for a migration journey.

Taking my 98-year-old Mom to lunch tomorrow, to catch up and share stories about our recent trip. She loved to travel back in the day and likes hearing about everyone’s adventures.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week! :sparkles: :feather:

Congratulations on the special shout outs! :tada: Thank you @Selena-Paloma for sharing so much of your wisdom and @Feathertip for sharing so much of your love!

Well, we’re finally here - partial retirement for the SO. Still trying to figure out how to change my schedule for my sanity while still making sure I make time to recharge my battery.

And on that note it’s fall bird migration (and cooler weather) so my bird club field trips resume for the fall. First one is tomorrow!

Wishing everyone a wonderful and productive start to their week!

Congratulations @Selena-Paloma and @Feathertip !!!

I’ve been gone and little while and have some catching up to do with the forum!

@dan3 our DMV is awful. I would always go to the next town over so I wouldn’t have to wait in line for 3 hours, but, someone got upset with the DMV in the next town over and drove an 18 wheeler through it. I’m glad I didn’t go that day! Be careful at the DMV!

I hope everyone has a beautiful, magickal week!

Thank you, @Artemisia! Congrats to your SO! I hope you navigate your new schedules with minimal difficulty. The bird field trips sound like a blast - enjoy!!

@Ostara : thank you love! Good to see you again. Have a magickal week yourself!

No trucks came through the door!

The parking lot was full and I was inwardly groaning. However, when I got inside, there were 14 windows in operation and I was only waiting for about 15 minutes.

@BryWisteria 's wish for a nice assistant for me was fulfilled. She was quick and and friendly.

Congrat you two! Nice.

It’s a great start to the week!

Thank you, Dan!

I can’t believe you had such a good outcome at the dreaded DMV - I think @BryWisteria used some of her magickal powers somewhere in there.

Congratulations @Selena-Paloma and @Feathertip! Awesome job, y’all! Thank you for being part of the forum!

@dan3, I’m thankful you had an uneventful DMV visit. Those are always a pain.

@Feathertip, I used to feed the birds. They got more hungry the more I fed them. I eventually had to stop; it was costing over twenty dollars a day! It just proved that pigs do fly. Hope your lunch date with your Mom goes well!

Hope you can figure everything out and learn to live with your need schedules before you kill each other! LOL! Have fun birding!

@Ostara, glad to have you back! Good luck catching up. I know just missing a day can make it a lot, so yeah. Have fun!

I had my doctor’s appointment today, and it all went well. So that’s good. I have my neurologist appointment tomorrow. So that’ll be interesting.

I just found out that the company I used to get rides to my doctor’s appointments, but pays Sally, is going bankrupt. What kind of bankruptcy is and what it means, I don’t know. So that has me worried. Something new for me to worry about. Yay! :expressionless_face: I also need to go to the bank this week in person, so yeah, fun times. Wish me luck this week!

The SO retired quite a while after I did. Thinking about it can be traumatic but then you realize it ain’t bad. Of course that doesn’t help you because you have to worry about it. It is a lifestyle change.

Yep. We were spending too much for them plus the Trash Bandits who raided us every night. We backed off a lot. They still come around.

Congratulations! You both rock! Thank you for making this forum such a welcoming and inviting place for us all.

Glad your trip to the DMV went without a hitch, @dan3

Have a wonderful lunch with your mum @Feathertip. I wish my 96 year old dad wasn’t on the other side of the Atlantic. We had the most wonderful weather today - bright blue sky, but not humid and temp was in the 80s. I spent a lot of the day sitting on the patio, watching hummingbirds on the Turk’s Cap, and butterflies on the zinnias.

I hope you are able to get your schedule sorted out with your SO semi-retired, @artemisia . Eric retired before I did, and when I retired I thought I might drive him nuts. But we get on pretty well - we each have our own things we like to do – he is writing a fantasy novel and he likes to build models. I have my witchcraft, gardening, art projects, or just reading etc. We manage to keep out of each other’s hair, and then on Fri/Sat/Sun nights we have ā€œat home date nightsā€ with wine, crackers, cheese etc. and watch a movie, or a British mystery on Acorn TV or Britbox.

Good to see you back @Ostara - we missed you and your Witchy memes!

That’s good. Mine mostly left once we stopped feeding them. The Trash Pandas at mine never had a chance. I’d fill up the feeder in the morning, and it would be out by afternoon. It was a big feeder, too! The starlings would come and eat us out of house and home. The sparrows and cardinals didn’t have a chance.

@Amethyst @dan3 I’ve never had a problem with the Trash Bandits! I guess I’ve been lucky.

I hang my feeders on very tall shepherd hooks that have baffles attached. Nothing can climb up, and they’re placed far enough away from the fence and trees that no one’s jumping onto them, either. (And I’ve seen some pretty acrobatic squirrels!) Lol

@Amethyst - Those starlings are insatiable, aren’t they? I struggled with them, and also grackles as the main ā€œbully birdā€ culprits. I finally figured out how to adjust the seed blend. Certain times of the year, I only put plain safflower seeds in a smaller tube feeder with only 4 ports. The size alone makes it awkward for the bigger birds.

Plus, starlings apparently can’t crack the hulls of safflower - they want hull-less seeds or softer ones. And apparently safflower seeds are bitter to grackles. They’ll eat a few but then take off.

These days I hardly see any of those birds around. My daily visitors are mainly cardinals, various sparrows, finches and chickadees. I keep suet in a strange looking house-type feeder with the suet cake placed on the bottom - the woodpeckers and little birds have no problem accessing it, but the larger birds don’t bother.

A LOT of trial and error - and cash - to find this sweet spot! But it works. The staff at my local bird supply store are really helpful and knowledgeable about what to offer. It works! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Congrats! Great Job!

Sorry I’ve been gone so long. Nightmare! Still not through it.

Good Luck!

I found Safflower to be bitter, too. Call me crazy, but I like to taste what I give my birds. No nasty chemical ā€œvitaminsā€ for my babies!

Hooray! I’m glad your trip to the DMV went well. Mission success!

Just the power of positive thinking haha! I’m happy if it had any effect

And I love your vision of the MMM as the coven’s water cooler. It is a nice spot to stop by, check in, and have a chat about current happenings! :sparkles:

Happy Tuesday, everyone - hope the week has been off to a good start for everybody!

I’ll have to remember that if I ever get to feed the birds again. We’re not allowed here at the apartments. Not only was it attracting possums and rats to feed, but bears too. None of which we want in the apartment! I don’t want one of those for a roommate!

Great advice! Thank you!

Thanks, love! And it’s nice to see you back!

Exactly! A nice place for us to pause and visit. I’m happy you like it!

@georgia: Thank you! Welcome back! I hope you get through all the moving trauma very soon.

@Amethyst: You’re welcome! It definitely required a lot of bird study. My husband has caught me staring out the kitchen window many times over the years, asking me if I’m daydreaming. I’d say, ā€œNo - this is intense study of animal behavior! I’m working here!ā€

Sounds logical to me! Birds are fascinating creatures. :bird: And hey, if they de-evolve into dinosaurs, you’d be one of the first to know! :t_rex: That’s useful right there!
