I lean hard into folk magick, since that is what I learned first, years and years ago.. I am studying Baba Yaga folk magick currently, and sewing a lot, as most of you know. I like to work with fae sometimes too.

Hello everyone!
This is so cool. I love this.

My magickal name is Luna Nightveil. It fits with my personality and, of course, my love for my love, the Moon. My favorite area of magick at the moment is candle magic and planetary magick. I love learning about the different aspects of the planets and using the planetary hours to do spell-work. I currently picked up some throw-away fabric to make some spell-bags and poppets. I love the different designs that are available for really cheap. I am currently studying Tarot and doing a 33-day Tarot journey. It’s a lot of fun, and I am loving what I am learning about myself and the cards.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Jupiter Day!

Toodles, Luna :crescent_moon:

So, let®s seeeeee

Do you have a magickal name?

Okay so this is my challenge entry because this is a bit of a story
and it might even sound somewhat enchanted
here we go

I grew up in a very rural area of Austria...

in a tiny village with only 100 or so people living there. My home was difficult for many reasons and nobody really cared much about me, so most of my days I would come home from school and then roam around freely. I must have been like 7 or 8, I was still little, and I think it was the summer holidays. I was playing at the small stream that was going through the village, playing with rocks and picking flowers.
An old woman, all dressed in black with a black headscarf (this was not unusual; all old women in that area would dress like that once their husband had died. It was a tradition.) walked by and she stopped and watched me play and smiled at me. I knew her from the village I had seen her before, I knew that she lived alone in a tiny old house and that her garden was overflowing with herbs and flowers, so much that I would move through a cloud of different delicious scents whenever I rode by on my bicycle. I saw that she had put down a bag with groceries that looked quite heavy. I said something like: “I can help you bring that home with my bike, if you want.”
You see, one of my most loved possessions was a small trailer, that I had found on a dumpsite; I had fixed it up and painted it with leftover paints: it was purple and blue and I had painted stars on it (pentagrams really) and a moon and several suns. I managed to attach the trailer to my bicycle with wire all by myself and was terribly proud of it - and of myself of course.
The woman smiled and accepted my offer, so I heaved her shopping bag into my little trailer, which contained small cups of collected stones and all sorts of other found objects. I pushed my bike to match her pace, and it wasn’t long before we struck up a conversation. When we reached her house, I helped carry the bag inside. The woman lifted the bag onto her table and asked me to wait; she had a small reward for me. This gave me a chance to look around, and I saw beautiful and unusual objects: figurines, candles, flowers, pictures
I had never seen anything like it before.

I received a small bar of chocolate as a reward, all for myself! I usually only got something like that on my birthday or at Christmas. I thanked her and skipped happily to my bike and was about to ride off when the woman opened her window and called out, “Would you like to come again tomorrow? I could use some help in the garden.”

Well, I was very happy to help!
From then on, I visited her very often, practically whenever I could. Her name was Margot; she was kind, friendly, patient, and cheerful, and she could bake the best cinnamon rolls in the world.

And of course, she was a witch, but she never called herself that. She knew more about herbs than anyone I knew; she knew exactly when to plant and harvest them, how to prepare tinctures, salves, and incense. She had a beautiful little altar for the goddess Mokosch, who is a Slavic goddess. Margot was of Slavic descent (like many in that area) and honored her roots and the culture of her ancestors.
Sometime later, it must have been the following summer, we were sitting on a wooden bench after gardening. The bench was warm from the sun that had shone on it all day, and we leaned against the warm wall of the house, drinking lemonade. It was afternoon, and whenever the heat of the blazing sun slowly subsided, the herbs and flowers began to smell especially fragrant. The buzzing of insects almost lulled me to sleep, and a cat (Margot had many cats) rubbed against my legs. “What do I have to do to become like you?” I asked
“You know, a witch.” She smiled. “You have to run into the garden at the next full moon, spin around three times, and shout three times: ‘I’m a witch!’”

Well, you can be quite sure that’s exactly what I did, and my parents were quite astonished. From then on, Margot explained and taught me a few things now and then—well, what she knew, mainly about herbs.
On my 14th birthday, she had a surprise for me. She had calculated my life path number, which is 7, and with her pendulum, she had found a witch’s name for me whose numerical value also added up to 7. A name that resonates with the power of 7 and also harmonizes with my given name, Katharina. She had arranged a small ceremony for me in which she gave me the name “Zozanna”. It comes from Persian language (Farsi) and means burning, fiery, and Katharina comes from Greek and means something like “the purified one.”

So, I am the witch who purifies through fire and is purified by the flame. And that’s the story of how I got my witch’s name. :sacred_flame:

Oh this is wonderful! And such a good way for us to all get to know more about each other that we may not already know.

My magickal name is Greenbriar. I chose it because I feel it aligns with my practice, which leans towards earth and nature magic.

My favorite areas of magic are creating spell bags and jars, as well as honoring Gaia by feeding the birds and tending my witch’s garden, and caring for the land and wildlife around my home.

Slowly learning about ways to use herbs that I grow in my garden in my practice - I would love to be able to create salves, healing bath salts, tea blends etc. I’m also on a long journey learning the tarot and runes, and appreciating the forum areas that give me a chance to practice and learn.

@katharina has piqued my interest in working with clay for the 13 Goddesses activity, and I also enjoy painting in watercolor, which I am trying to incorporate into my practice.

We currently have three cats, all rescues, although at one time, when these were just kittens, we had a total of 13 cats in the house!

I was late getting started in witchcraft, joining Spells 8 in November of 2024

I had to tell that my 20 yr old daughter’s actual name is Rayven Moon. I knew the family wouldn’t appreciate it so we kept it a secret until the papers for her birth certificate were filled out. My daughter loves her name. U thought it was very cool that the two of you share almost the identical name.

That’s the beauty of a freebie challenge - anyone and everyone here in this space gets a free badge. Badges for everyone! :raising_hands: :confetti_ball:

Having a focus point or helper prop for meditations can be very powerful! I use a little bullseye image with the word FOCUS at my desk - it helps me rein in a wandering mind. I hope your work with props goes well for you  :two_hearts:

Dorothy Lumri Somnolandrig has faded from use for the time being. I am not looking for a new one, but if one comes to me, I am open to researching it.

I used to be well known as the fairy godmother type. I’d warn people to be careful making wishes around me because they had a tendency of coming true.

Then I moved to New Mexico, where people too often said “Wish in one hand and poo in another and see which hand filled up first.” My answer was “The wishes. I have IBS-C.” TMI, I guess.

Now, I have been retired. I’d like to join or create a retirement home for old witches in hopes that we can find respect or peace not often offered to elder muggles.

In my college years, if I got close enough to someone, I could do remote viewing and prove it. People freaked, so it faded. However, the ability is still deep inside and rears it’s head via empathy every once in a while.

I used stars in my magic in a very different way than astrology. They were my ancestors. I created links with them as work done to ease the crossing over when I was to become one of them.

I learned of a 33x3 spell online recently, and tried it out yesterday morning. It was too much like the punishments at school. Yet I did delve into it so deeply that I wrote my intention out 190 times. I was drawn toward Christian mysticism for a few hours, and saw how easily it could have bordered on insanity for me. In my youth, I hated repetition (boring!), but was forced to use it as a learning device. Now, I am awaiting the results. At some points, I had one focal point, hoping to make the world a better place. Another moment, the intentions were more broad and spiritually focused. Then the focus narrowed to a couple personal issues. Finally, I was multitasking, so those were not as intense as I thought they’d be. I was told at one point that I didn’t know what I was asking (dreamed of being nearly blind and following friendly birds no one else could see), and yes, I did take breaks.

Lately (6 years or so) I have been focusing on cleaning up a mess I made by collecting digital items from back in the late 1980’s through today. There is more here than I could use in a lifetime! I have not made much of a dent in the sheer bulk of it all only because my habit of collecting has not been completely turned off yet. But there is so much wisdom out there! Do I really need a copy of The Philadelphia Story when I enjoy the musical High Society? How many different copies of Dickens’ Christmas Carol do I really need and which is the best? How can I find my favorite Scott Hamilton skating performance when it seems like no one has it; and once I do find it, how can I make it into the holographic music box I once dreamed of? And once I have collected all the spells, here on Spells8 and in the forum, how can I possibly organize them all so that collections from other places on the internet don’t repeat similar spells?

Pets or service animals, yes: Albus Bird. I’m always talking about him, here. Familiars: I can’t say I’ve ever had one.

I first learned about magick from my college friend in 1990, though I’ve been practicing since I was 7. I’ve learned a lot since then. I’ve forgotten even more than I am aware of anymore. Thank Heavens for my books so I can reread and remember, even though they sometimes feel like another life.

I enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing.

Wonderful irony!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I did a lovely coffee spell this morning, and I’m still sipping on my magickal brew. I just wanted to send a little love out to y’all along with some good vibes. :sparkles: :sparkling_heart:
