It was! However, tea works, too. We drank tea for breakfast for many years while in the UK. I grew to love it and then grew out of it once we got back to the US.
A lovely morning ritual! ![]()
And that frothy cup of coffee does look divine. ![]()
Witch Challenge - Morning Magick
My morning ritual changes with the seasons. These days, while it is still summer in the Northern Hemisphere, I can be found performing the following rituals.
I start every morning at the window near my bed - there is a beautiful, crooked dogwood tree right outside, and the branches come right up to my window. I peek out very slowly so I donāt startle whoever is out there - and there is nearly always someone out there! I greet them and thank them for starting off my day with happiness, just by being there.
I drink a large glass of plain water before anything else. Plain water has magickal properties as one of the 5 elements. It is energizing and refreshing.
Waiting for me patiently at the bottom of the stairs is my older cat, Miss Finn. We have our private cream ritual - I allow her a scant half-teaspoon of cream each morning. She is the most ritualized animal I have ever lived with - she wonāt eat any food until I come downstairs and get her little saucer and the carton of cream. While I dribble it out, she watches the stream, and I sing to her: āWhat what I got? What have I got? What have I got for a Finn-cat?ā Her tail flicks in anticipation.
After our cream ceremony, while the other morning nectar of life (also known as coffee) is brewing, I step outside for my summer morning rounds.
I greet every plant, flower and tree that I pass, checking on each for any bug infestation or stress from the heat. I pet the flowers and tell them how amazing they are. We recently planted a small, dwarf-version of a River Birch - right now, he looks more like a shrub than a tree. But we are already great friends, and I caress his leaves and tiny branches and tell him heās doing a great job in his new home, and will grow up to be big and tall. (Well, heāll top out at about 10-12 ft, but he might feel empowered to surpass that!)
After morning plant inspection, I fill up the bird feeder. The locals watch me every morning, chattering with excitement. Once I replace the full feeder, I walk away listening to the celebration in the land! We make each other so happy each day, I am always laughing while I fill up the birdbath with clean water.
It is a joyous way to begin each day - being outside tending to the animals and plants, breathing in the air.
Once Iām back inside, I get my coffee and turn to my Lenormand cards. I will give consideration to the daily questions and recite one of them aloud as I shuffle the deck a few times.
I am still very new to Lenormand and it has quickly become an integral part of my day.
Here is my deck:
Then I make my daily 3-card draw and spread them in front of me for consideration. (If Iām really lucky, by now I have been joined by my other cat, Bex. She doesnāt really care for any cream, but is very fond of this ritual as you can see.)
If time and the household permits it, I can share my card draw and my interpretation with the Spells8 crew. Other times, domestic obligations are edging in and my morning ritual is over.
That is wonderful Dan. I like the way you personalized what Co-Pilot gives you.
And I am so envious of your deck and the woods beyond! What an idyllic location!
Thank you @anon59397935, @Greenbriar
He really is! I wouldnāt trade him for anything! ![]()
I used to have a morning routine, but it went away without me realizing it! I need to start it again!
I like your routine/ritual. I also identify with talking to whatever is on the deck - it feels great. The other day a horned owl (big-big) was waiting and I froze (they are skittish). We watched each other for a long minute and he was gone in a graceful rise into the air.
@Greenbriar - The woods are full of critters so we really enjoy our backyard beastiary. We got lucky (well⦠the SO got lucky. She was the driver behind getting property.)
@Ostara - This is the perfect time to get started again Doll! I look forward to you hopefully joining the Challenge with a new Routine ![]()

What a sweet image! Love the B&W - perfect. ![]()
I wish I heard/saw more owls around here! One of my favorite creatures, and we certainly have chipmunks and field mice. I love your interaction with the horned owl. sigh

I recite prayers every morning. As most of you know, I recite prayers to Various Deities, but I also recite various other prayers too. I couldnāt fit all of them in the picture, but here are some of them. I drink my Vanilla Spice Tea from Yogi Tea. I love this Tea because they provide uplifting Healing Affirmations on the Tea Tags! I really love that. Here are all of my prayer beads! I really love this morning routine because it relaxes me and brings me closer to the Deities that I work with.
It must be difficult to have a morning routine with your work schedule @Ostara. Hope you can find a routine that works for you
@dan3 I would give anything to have an experience like that with an owl. They are so magical
I found this from 2023. Almost 2 years later and Iām still working on mindfulness. Iām going to do something like this, but Iām still thinking on it.
@anon59397935 I love how Yogi tea has the little inspirational sayings on their tea bags.
@Greenbriar Iāve been sleeping during the heat of the day even on my days off because itās been so hot. My poor witch garden is melting!
@dan3 I hear owls at night around here, but have never seen them. Maybe Iāll go out with a flashlight tonight and follow the hoot. I would love to see an owl!
My experience is I never find them, they find me. My favorite way to hunt wildlife is to sit down and wait. I even take coffee/drink and a snack. They tend to come out to see what is going on.
@Ostara - me too! I am totally hooked on Yogi Tea because of their inspirational quotes / affirmations ![]()

I do my laundry in a shed outside. I see all kinds of wildlife in the middle of the night, but never owls. Tonight Iām going to sit and wait. We shall see.
Always remember: critters are basically very nosy. ![]()
Some are bolder than others, but I agree with @dan3 - theyāll usually show themselves if you give them some time. Curious and intelligent creatures.
@ostara My cherry tomatoes are about done, the vines are rambling all over the place and I need to pull them out.
Ali the herbs I planted in the spring have been doing well and Iāve got lots of organza bags filled with clipped leaves hanging in the walk in closet to dry. Still got a ton more to harvest as well.
The lemon grass you gave me is growing well and I snipped off some leaves to dry and use in a healing bath recipe that was shared here a few days ago.
Challenge Entry - Morning Magik Reflections
Hello dear Sisters and Brothers!
I read most of your posts and itās very inspiring! My life is a Chaos (with a big, big capital C!) for the last two years, I donāt even have a basic morning routine yet. So, you could imagine about my practiceā¦
Itās a mess!![]()
Some days, I donāt have enough energy to get off my bed for all day long, while some other days, I can go sitting in my backyard with my dog, feeding the homeless cats, giving them some love and affection, checking the outdoor spiders, and then, go back for a nap.
My energy varies so much that my routine couldnāt be stable.
How could I integrate some practice in my mornings? The fact that I canāt be consistent bugs me a lot!!! Maybe I could write a list of some magik I could do depending on my energy and how I feel?![]()
3-cards tarot reading, visualization, reading books/learning about the craft, meditation, oracle reading, tea ritual⦠Most of all, to know that each day is a brand new one, a new cycle, it shifts my mindset about what was bugging me.
Sometimes, booboo happens, and how do you
react/feel when you have to skip a morning magik routine? Are you flexible with your own practice?
Thank you so much for this reflection opportunity, and for all the inspiration!
Lot of Love!
Blessed be!![]()
Iām with you on that one. Time is flying by and Iām just going with the flow not thinking about it. I think it would help If I just lit candle and was still for a few minutes before my day starts. If I miss a day then start again the next day. At this point, anything would be better then what Iām doing now.
@isabelle2 - Hey Doll, I am totally with you. I know how hard it can be to get out of bed! I have been there sweetie! I START SMALL! That is my recommendation to you. On a side note, if you would like any help at all, I am a Spiritual Healer! I left my job in the accounting industry last August to follow my dreams. I can finally get out of bed! My service dog Zeus and I are now up everyday at 530. Sometimes I donāt know how I am going to pay the bills, but my happiness is worth it! Please feel free to message me anytime love ![]()
