Spells to Start the Day

Of all the cycles we experience in our lives, the daily cycle is one that often gets forgotten. But there is a great power in the shifting sun - each sunset is a chance to rest and every sunrise brings clean slate. By acknowledging the power in a fresh start, we can claim the power of each and every new day. And there are so many ways to honor the morning in our practice!

From tea blessings to coffee consecrations, stirring good intentions into morning oatmeal, doing a daily draw or a morning devotional to a deity - a little bit of magick can go a long way.

So how do you weave magick into your mornings? Whether it’s a daily routine, a spell for special occasions, a beloved breakfast recipe, or something else - consider sharing those good morning vibes with your coven  :sunrise_over_mountains:

Challenge Entry - Morning Magick

I decided to pick an easy spell, hoping to make it part of my morning ritual. Picked my go-to morning caffeine drink, a candle, and pulled on one of my new Ogham staves - Luis - perfect combination of protective and motivation as I start my day!

Challenge Entry Morning Magick

I start every day with a quick welcome to the sun as I open the blinds.

Then my morning routine is to say my daily devotionals.

Then I often do a short tea ritual at my altar desk, and pull some Oracle cards

Then I do a couple of meditations before starting the rest of my day.

Challenge Entry

As I pour my first cup of coffee I always say a little chant of some kind to bless my day full of positive energy and good intentions

Then I sit down to enjoy my coffee, log in to spells8 and do my morning rune pull, my Lenormand reading and my tarot reading.

When I take my morning shower I always wash out all negativity and bring in positive energy.

Witch Challenge for Amethyst:

Hello all!

I’m not going to get into my full morning routine here, but one of the things I try to do every morning is to light a candle to honor the Goddess Brigid. I wrote this chant to go with it after I lit a tea candle.

A Flame for Brigid:

Lady Brigid, Child of the Elements, I light this flame in your honor.
I seek to learn from your teachings,
Grow with your inspiration,
and transform in your fire.
Lady Brigid, I ask you to watch over me,
protect me through the day,
and guide me with your sacred flame!

Blessed be!

I hope everyone likes part of my morning rites! Please use it if you like it!

@Amethyst I love your little tea light holder and the chant you wrote to Brigid is lovely.

@Mystique I forgot to say I love that mug! And that tarot deck looks great!

These are all thoughtful, lovely morning rituals. The tea lights, chants, and meditations are enchanting and definitely feel magickal!

@Mystique - that coffee cup is inspired!

Such a beautiful candle holder! Love your ritual!

Thank you @Greenbriar , @Selena-Paloma , and @Feathertip I’ve had the coffee mug for over 20 years! Lol it holds 4 cups and been the only one I’ve used for coffee since I got it. The tarot deck is my newest and very blunt and to the point.

My morning routines change with the seasons. As soon as it gets cool enough to leave the windows open, I get out the candles and incense for the winter months. Each day, I light 5 tealights and incense while listening to a CD of special songs I put together, saying:

The Creator made the space/time continuum in fire. Fire cooled to air. Air burned to earth. Earth collected water, and Water nurtured life.

It is said with gratitude and honor to each element.

Then I use a blessing, with or without oil, since my system moves the oil and excretes it from the pores in my face.

“Creator, help me to go where you need me to go, today,” I say while drawing a pentagram or other sigil on the sole of each foot.

At the root chakra, I request, “Help me to create what you need me to create.”

Sacral: “Help me to nurture what you need me to nurture.”

Solar Plexus: “Help me to organize what you need me to organize.”

Heart: “Help me to feel what you need me to feel.”

Palm of each hand: “Help me to do what you need me to do, today.”

Throat: “Help me to express what you need me to express.”

Mouth: Help me to consume what you need me to consume today, Creator."

Nose: “Help me to smell what you need me to smell.”

Ears: “Help me to hear what you need me to hear.”

Eyes: “Help me to see what you need me to see today, Creator.”

Third Eye: “Help me to understand what you need me to understand.”

Crown: “Help me to connect where you need me to connect today.”

Sometimes I add what I need to get done, too. I eat my breakfast and drink juice as a daily tea ritual rather than saving that for Thursdays with the group. Then I join the forum until an early lunch time.

In summer, it gets too hot for candles and incense, so I omit those and continue with the rest. Last spring, I tried to skip the CD, picking something else to listen to, but Albus complained so intensely that I kept the music playing each morning. If I start focusing on the forum before turning on the CD, Albus gives me flybys or calls a two syllable peep until I realize he isn’t calling my name, but asking for music. Once in a while, I turn on the repeat function and let the CD play all day. Albus has his favorite songs, which he sings to, stopping when the singer takes a breath.

@Amethyst - Beautiful morning ritual Dear Heart ! I just love it so much! The Chant is just perfect! Short and Sweet :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:! Brigid is the first Goddess I started working with, so she is very close to my Heart :purple_heart:!

@georgia - That is a lovely morning ritual! I really like it! I did something similar for my Self-Dedication Ritual! I made a blessing oil too.

WITCH CHALLENGE - Morning Magic

Morning Magic – A Simpler Way

I’m not a morning person but I do some things automatically each morning to wake up and start the day. They are a ritual – I’m sure some things will be common with all.

The first thing is coffee… one larger cup. To me, that is a ritual and let’s me think of what has happened and what will happen. My initial planning of the day starts with the third sip.

My favorite quote about it is: " As far as she was concerned, coffee was a warm, delicious alternative to hating everyone forever." ~ Alex Fox

The picture above is from this morning

So, noodling on this, I decided to get an outline from CoPilot and then modify it with things I actually do.

:sun_with_face: Morning Magic Ritual: Opening the Day

:candle: Threshold Gesture

Light. Touch. Open.
Choose one:

  • Light a candle (I never light anything when I’m waking up)
  • Open a window
  • (ME) I just step outside. Opening windows means I have to remember to close them. We have a deck that looks out onto a forest and I always look and feel the pulse of the day… and if Mr. Fox is wandering down the fence line looking for breakfast.

  • Touch a sacred object (rune, card, sigil). I often ‘touch’ cards first thing. It gets my mind cleared.
    Whisper:

“I step into the day with open hands and a steady heart.”

(ME) I don’t whisper – I do think about how I feel and how to best open the day.

:speaking_head: Invocation

Speak or think one phrase to align your spirit:

“Let clarity, courage, and compassion walk with me.”
Or personalize with mythic imagery:
“I rise with Thor’s strength and Freya’s grace.”
“I carry the wisdom of the forest and the fire of the forge.”

(ME) I don’t do anything so abstract. Lately, I may think about the Norse Pantheon only I think about how complex and varied it is. I think about how I can do one thing today to understand it better. TracyS – I blame this on you! However, I always think about something to do with my path. Cards, Runes, or adjusting my intentions for ongoing events.

:person_in_lotus_position: Symbolic Movement

Choose one gesture:

  • Stretch arms wide to receive
  • Place hand over heart to center
  • Trace a rune or sigil in the air
Feel the meaning in your body.

My goto is to take deep breaths and set my mind as if I was going to start meditation – it sheds off any dregs from the day before or dreams I had the night before. It also verifies I’m still alive. This is probably just an expanded gesture like the second one above.

:joker: Divinatory Glimpse (Optional

Draw one card, rune, or Ogham stick.
Ask:

“What energy wishes to walk beside me today?”
Note the symbol and reflect briefly.

Actually, I open the cards and draw three or four spreads quickly (digitally). It gives me a feel for what the heck the mood is today.

:feather: Closing Breath or Sigil

Visualize a protective symbol hovering above you:
:sun: Sun • :cyclone: Spiral • :shield: Shield • Your personal sigil
Take one deep breath.

“This breath seals my intention. I walk with magic.”

I don’t end the morning ritual in such a way at all. I let the ritual blend smoothly into action as I drink the last of my coffee. Today, I went off and posted cards on Spells8 and came back and ended this missive. My coffee is gone. I’m ready to rock.
