Cancer New Moon ♋ June 2025

Cancer New Moon

It is once again time for the sky to darken as we welcome a New Moon. This is the first New Moon after the Solstice! I think it’s fitting that this New Moon is in Cancer, considering the Solstice usually sees us gathering with loved ones and friends as we honor the Sun. This month, we are leaning into the energy of Cancer with emotional connection, rootedness, and community.

Depending on your time zone, the New Moon will be on 2025-06-25T10:31:00Z. Find the exact time of this month’s New Moon here: Moon Calendar from Astro-Seek.

What Is A New Moon?

Astronomically speaking, a New Moon is the period of time when the moon is at 0% illumination. The Moon and Sun are on opposite sides of the Earth. This causes Earth’s shadow to fully cover the Moon leaving the night sky in darkness.

There are several different beliefs regarding the New Moon and witchcraft. Some witches believe this is the time to start new projects. Others believe it is a time of rest and recovery where no magic should be done.

What does a new moon symbolize? This is a time of introspection, self-analysis and reflection. An opportunity for a fresh start and a New You. - New Moon Rituals (Spells8)

The Sign Of Cancer

The Zodiac sign of Cancer is a cardinal water sign ruled by the Moon. Cancer is heavily tied to emotions and intuition, letting things ebb and flow like the fluidity of the water it is connected to. Cancers are sentimental and enjoy spending time at home, a place that offers them safety and comfort. They love deeply and are loyal to the people they care about. Cancers tend to be highly empathic, able to sense the energies of those around them and intuit how they feel and what they need. This makes them wonderful friends and partners. However, these crab-like Cancers also have their hard exterior. They may appear clingy and overly emotional if they let their energy run amok.

Emotional Reflection & Introspection

Cancer is a deeply emotional sign, heavily connected to the inner world and the flow of water, the element it is connected to. New Moons are generally about rest, reflection, and new beginnings. If you’ve been struggling with some emotional turmoil or simply want to understand yourself a little better, you might consider doing some shadow work during this new moon in Cancer. You can use a meditation, work with the course here on Spells8, or consider some of the journal prompts that I’ve included for you below.

  • What comes to mind when you think of the word “family”?
  • Where do you feel most grounded, safe, and protected? And why?
  • Being completely honest with yourself, how do you enable your own inner shadows?

Home Blessings & Protection

As a sign deeply rooted in home and family life, a Cancer New Moon is a good opportunity to give your house or your personal space a little bit of a blessing. You might consider blessing your space for protection, prosperity, or happiness.

If you’re not looking to bless your home, this could also be a good chance for you to reinforce protections you already have. If you don’t have any, it might be a good time for you to add some protections to your home. You might consider warding your doors, protecting your property, or reinforcing your positive space. Whatever you choose, the Cancer New Moon can help you feel grounded and safe in your personal space.

Community Connection

As a sign that is all about emotional connection, you might find the New Moon in Cancer is a great time to reach out to your community. This can be your family, your friends, your chosen community, people who share the same interests as you, the coven here online, or whatever community is to you. You might consider spells for friendship, rituals to protect the people you care about, or spells to call in abundance for the people in your community who might need it.

Community is very important to the sign of Cancer, and if you don’t have community in person, this might be your calling to create that for yourself if you have that ability. Whatever you choose to do relating to community, remember that community is a valuable part of your life. It should make you feel safe, it should make you feel at peace, and it should also challenge you to learn and grow.

Remember, the energy of the New Moon isn’t just for the one day that it reaches its peak. Personally, I give myself a three-day window for the New Moon: the day before, the day of, and the day after. This works well for my practice, and it may work for yours, too!

abusiveness, avoidance, unhappiness, fear, others hating and expecting me to share in the hatred for no good reason, being told that hope was not living in the real world, illogical behaviour, being accused of someone else’s illnesses or shadows, being told that I will grow up to be just like them, The Buck Stops Here!

I found independence to be the most grounding for me. Having a grocery store near enough that I could get my own food helped me feel safe.

Yet I am learning there’s more to it. I see a complex near a store, but no one is happy. I cringe at the idea of “adult supervision” for the simplest activities. This is a side of aging I avoid if at all possible. If management treats the elderly like infants, despite capability; if they paint the innocent with the same brush as the guilty just for living in the same neighborhood, that management is enforcing learned dependence. This is more debilitating than not being able to find food, more debilitating than Covid distancing, and so much worse than being ignored! If I were ignored, I could at least starve to death with dignity!

Settling for less than the best possible outcome. Sometimes I do so out of desperation just because I can’t see any further than the tip of my nose. It is a form of fear of the unknown.
