What is a Full Moon?

If you need a recap of a Full Moon, click here! 🌕

A full moon happens when the moon is directly opposite the sun from the Earth. This means that the side of the moon facing Earth is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear as a complete circle of light in the night sky.

As with anything in witchcraft, there are many different beliefs on what type of magick should be done during a Full Moon. Some witches believe banishing should be done. Others believe intentions should be set for manifestations. Still, others (such as myself) believe that the Full Moon is the best time for literally any spell you want because the energy is at its highest.

During the Full Moon, the Triple Goddess becomes the Mother of all beings. It’s a great time to work on intuition, spells of love, and prosperity. The Power of all Magic is truly at its peak, this lunar phase is key to either accept or reject projects, transformations, and manifestations that we initiated during the New Moon. - Spells and Things To Do on a Full Moon | Spells8

The Full Sturgeon Moon :fish:

In the Northern Hemisphere, this Full Moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon. This is because it was believed the sturgeon in The Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were best caught during this time of the year. Though they are found elsewhere, these are the most common places to find this fish.

If this name does not suit your practice, that’s okay! There are some alternatives to the major name for this Full Moon, including Black Cherries Moon, Corn Moon, or Mountains Shadow Moon. Of course, if those don’t work either, feel free to create a Full Moon name that suits your practice and region!

The Full Snow Moon :snowflake:

For those in the Southern Hemisphere, you might know this moon as the Full Snow Moon. This is the time of year right before Spring, when the world is still cold but the stirrings of life are just beneath the surface.

Some alternative names for the Full Snow Moon include the Full Wolf Moon and the Full Bear Moon. These may not resonate with where you live, so feel free to choose a Full Moon name that makes sense for your region! Some common Full Moon names for August’s Full Moon in the Southern Hemisphere are Snow Moon, Storm Moon, Hunger Moon, and Wolf Moon.

The Sign of Aquarius

In astrology, Aquarius is a fixed air sign ruled by Uranus. Aquarius is a free-spirited sign, preferring independence over structure. They are a sign of equality and will often choose to treat everyone the same, regardless of, well, anything!

This sign is associated with big ideas and harmony. Their desire for knowledge and their propensity for daydreaming can make them unpredictable, often changing their minds at a whim when the next wave of inspiration hits. On the shadow side, Aquarians can seem detached from reality since they spend so much time with their head in the clouds, so to speak. They take longer to trust than usual, fearing rejection for their out-of-this-world ideas and personality.

Magick for the Aquarius Full Moon

The Full Moon in Aquarius can be a time of intellectual clarity and social consciousness. Because of the Aquarian propensity for innovation, you may even feel a push toward personal and collective evolution. Coupled with the Sturgeon or Snow Moon, two moons related to releasing old habits and ideas that belong in the past, we can utilize this Full Moon for massive periods of self-development and growth. We can also turn our energy outward, helping our communities, families, and friends through whatever growth is necessary there, too.

Remember, the energy of the Full Moon isn’t just for the one day that it reaches its peak. Personally, I give myself a three-day window for the Full Moon: the day before, the day of, and the day after. This works well for my practice and it may work for yours, too!

When I am living with my treasures, it is easy to pack things away behind other things, to take for granted the things I use all the time, to not notice what is spread out all over the place, to think I really don’t have much or need much.

Then it comes time to pack and move. All of a sudden, there are piles of stuff that are too massive to fit in boxes, too many ceramics to pack, repeats of things I didn’t remember I had, way too much stuff to carry alone!

This is a really good time to notice all this stuff n stuff n stuff and define it for what it is: abundance. It’s also a great time to express gratitude to those who have taken care of me. Such people, places, spirits, and deities too often get ignored over time. Trauma happens, and all we see is what we don’t have or what we need in order to get through it all.

I choose to take the time, beginning here. Thank you all for helping me get through some tricky times, lately. You are wonderful people, caring, and supportive. Because of your kindness, I have been strengthened enough to make this move- mostly repairing my confidence so I can rebuild the physical strength needed to get stuff done. Blessings Be to all!

The “Mountains Shadow Moon” is a really cool name - sounds like it could be the name of a song, or even a band!

I don’t live near the lakes mentioned, so I guess if I could choose a personal name for this moon, I’d go with the Corn Moon. Although Blackberry Moon or Pear Moon would also reflect the current harvest here in the gardens! :basket: :pear: :blackberry:

Love this guide and all its helpful tips! Wishing everyone a blessed full moon this week :full_moon_face:
