Blessed full moon and happy Lammas!
Summer is quickly burning through itself and autumn hangs on the horizon. Hard to believe we’re halfway between the solstice and equinox/official start of fall, but it’s swooping in fast! Speeding time usually has me holding on for dear life, but I’m actually excited about this one. Autumn is my favorite season ![]()
With thoughts of autumn come thoughts of endings. Fall is the spiritual closure of the harvest season when we show gratitude for the bounty of summer and prepare for a reason of rest. It a time of scythes, deaths, and closure ![]()
That may seem a little gloomy on the surface, and in some ways it is, but for those of us who embrace cycles in our practices, we know that all endings are also beginngs.
All this to say that sometimes an ending is a cause for celebration - and that aligns well with this sabbat!
Lammas (also called Lughnasadh) marks the first harvest, collection of grains, and shift from summer into autumn. I know we fondly call it “bread sabbat” here in the forum, and it’s very fitting - breads, pastries, and baked goods are all common symbols of the first harvest holiday ![]()
With all these thoughts in mind, I designed a spell jar. I have a passion project I’ve been working on for several years and, despite more than a few periods of stagnation, it looks like it’s time to make some more progress.
As Lammas marks the shift from summer into the autumnal season of closure, I’m hoping this spell jar will also help me “bake” my passion project toward completion. Here’s to hoping!
If you would like to make something similar (or adapt it to suit your manifestations), please feel free - I have included the recipe below.
Lammas Spell Jar to “Bake” a Wish into Being
You will need:
- Clean spell jar or bottle
- Flour or dried grains
- Sea salt
- Cinnamon *
- Beeswax (or golden wax)
*Note: Cinnamon has a yeast-killing and anti-rising effect in baking, so it is best to keep it separate from the flour/grains. Cinnamon is included in this spell jar for its properties of gently quickening the spell, prosperity, and sweet results. It may be substituted for ground paprika and basil instead.
