Just curious how many of you if at all wear ritual robes or a special outfit just for when you working your magick?
I was reading in a book i think it was called a wiccan walk in oz. Its all about wicca mainly in australia but also for people in the southern hemisphere and the author said that its advised that you dont wear your normal clothes you wear special clothes only for the purpose of your rituals etc.
It got me thinking is it necessary to do that? What are your thoughts? If you do wear a outfit what do you wear and where did you get it from ?
I wear something clean and nice but I don’t have a ritual outfit or robe or anything. I don’t know where I’d get such a thing unless you count the hooded house dress I bought from Woman Within a couple of years ago. It’s purple but it looks sort of witchy. I suppose I’d use that if I had to have a ritual robe.
I just always felt like if originally we went starkers, the Gods would be glad for us to be wearing anything at all. LOL.
No ritual outfit here - I tend to just wear something comfortable.
I do like to colour-coordinate with the day of the week though… does anyone else do this?
I usually take a shower and I am in something clean and comfortably but nothing that is specifically for rituals or spellwork. The dresses that I like to wear in the summer came from my mother and I believe one of them is called a peasant dress. It’s long and flowy and when you wash it, you twist it up and tie it in a knot until it is dry.
The clothes you wear during ritual as well as the colors, like @Limeberry said can be part of the setting and of the ritual itself.
I wouldn’t say any special clothing is necessary when working in solitary, but it can be useful. Especially if it helps you get in a ritual mood, or in a mindset of “sacred act separate from everyday life”.
Personally, most of the time I just go with whatever’s comfortable.
I’ve done a lot of my rituals naked, honestly. I also live alone, which a lot of you dont, but I do have to say its honestly such a freeing feeling. I tried it a few full moons ago & just fell in love!
@haley, I do as well too. Usually right after I shower, I cleanse with smudge or incense. And just sit in my towel if front of my altar and do ritual or spell work.(if it’s warm) But also like others stated, a comfortable t-shirt or hoodie depending on the weather. For me what’s most importantly is just feeling clean and cleansed before rituals.
Personally I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. When I do magick I’m just wearing normal everyday clothes. I think depending on a certain path one is in there might be times where you need a ritual outfit, cloak, or some type of garment. But if you’re more on the eclectic side then if you want to wear a specific outfit or garment then go ahead! If not then don’t. It won’t make or break the ritual or spell in my opinion. Really it’s all about your intention!
I’m also with the comfy and cozy clothes crew Since a lot of my magic is in the kitchen, I tend to make quite a mess! No fancy clothes for me And like others have mentioned, no clothing necessary for things like ritual baths
I hadn’t considered wearing special clothing for ritual work- but I agree with others! I think that choosing your clothes with intent (whether clean and pure or with specific colors to assist with the ritual) could give your spellwork an extra boost
An interesting dicussion- fun to think about! Thanks for bringing it up, @kira-marie
