Spells8 47th Book Club šŸ“š April 2025

Welcome to all of the witchy book-lovers here in the forum!

:books: :mage:

:sparkles: Book Club 47 :sparkles:
→ Reading Session: April 3st - April 30th ←
→ Review Session: May 1st - May 31st ←

Thank you again to everyone who joined in for last month’s reading session! For those who haven’t yet shared their thoughts about their book (or anyone who enjoys reading book reviews!) you still have time to do so in :memo: 46th Spells8 Book Club - Readers’ Reviews!

As of today, the 47th book club reading session has now begun!

On Your Mark, Get Set, READ! :books:

  1. Begin by announcing your book
The first post below is an editable wiki post- add your book title and name to the list! (instructions below)

  2. Know that you have [[ the whole month ]] in this reading session
While it is great if you can finish your book during this time, it is okay if you break it into chapters or sections- do as much as you can and know that doing your best is always good enough!

  3. As you’re reading, feel free to share your thoughts!
You are very welcome to share any thoughts or tidbits while you read in the comments below or in a new post in the forums. Just save the best parts for the final discussion at the end of the reading period!

  4. Join the final discussion
When the month is over, a discussion post will open encouraging all readers to share a review of their book and any personal thoughts they have about it. A mini-review is perfectly fine, and there will be a suggested format for anyone who would like to write a longer review.

A note about sharing books:

While everyone is free to choose their own book, you may consider reading along with someone else ! It is fun to share thoughts and insights about different books and even more exciting to do in-depth about a book with fellow readers :handshake:

If the book you plan to read is already on the list below, add your name to the list of others reading that book! Please keep in mind that everyone will reconvene and chat together in the Reader’s Reviews discussion, regardless of which book you read :books:

I’ve added my book, Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn. I’ve had the audiobook for awhile but I’m not getting through it easily.
I have a paperback arriving tomorrow.

I love that book! Honestly I love all of his books. I have the audiobook. I wish I could collect all of his titles in paperback. My witchy funds can’t keep up with my wishlist.

@WrenEve - Psychic Witch is a pretty good book! I’m not too keen on Matt’s belief system, but his exercises for psychic development and energy work are very solid. I hope you enjoy it!

Here’s my entry! Im going to put the name of the book in Spanish, since I dont know the title in english.

Im currently reading ā€œHĆ©cate, la diosa de las brujasā€ by Courtney Weber

(the translation would be ā€œHecate, the goddess of the witchesā€)

I’ll add it

I’m interested in this one. I’m trying to touch base with some of the prime deities.

@SpanishWitchy - I’ve heard great things about this book! I’ve never read this one, but Courtney Weber’s book on Brigid was phenomenal. I hope you enjoy it!

Book Title and Author: Celtic Myth and Magick by Edain McCoy

Status?: Finished

My overall rating of: 8 /10

How does this book relate to my magickal practice?: I was wanting to learn more about the Irish goddess Brigid, and the ways the Celts practiced magic.

My personal thoughts/opinions: This is a good book if you want to learn the basics of starting out in magic, be it Celtic or Wiccan. What I really loved is the glossaries in the back. There’s a lot of basic information there that can help you find which god or goddess to study. Although I was a bit disappointing they didn’t focus more on the gods. Or if they did it wasn’t memorable, and I’ve already forgotten it by the end of the book.

An interesting quote from the book: "Feel free to honor your God/desses, or your favorite aspect of them, whenever you are moved to do so. The best way to do this is to let words and/or music come from your heart. This is no time to be a slave to written rituals, especially since the arts of evocation and invocation are best accomplished by the solitary practitioner. You should never feel self-conscious in the presence of the divine. Their energy is a part of you (which is one of the reasons why it was so easy to call to you in the first place), and you should rejoice.ā€

McCoy, Edain. Celtic Myth & Magick: Harness the Power of the Gods & Goddesses (p. 105). Llewellyn Worldwide, LTD… Kindle Edition.

All in all, would I recommend this book?: Yes, if you’re just starting out. I think an intermediate witch would get frustrated.

It was a great book! Actually, I think I may have read it years ago in print but it was nice to read it again, I’d forgotten it!
