:green_candle: WITCH CHALLENGE - Colorful Candle Magick

Merry meet,

Thank you once again to all those who joined in for the previous Witch Challenge - The Thinning Veil :the_veil:

With the sabbat behind us, we continue toward the solstice. Let’s light the way forward - it’s time to bring out your candles in all their glorious colors! :dressed_candle:

The theme for this challenge is…

:candle: :purple_spell_candle: Colorful Candle Magick :black_spell_candle: :dressed_candle:

From various ingredients to phases of the moon, elemental influences, Zodiac energies, and more - there are so many influences a witch can weave into their spell. These influences (often called correspondences) can strengthen a spell, quicken its outcome, or help it reach its intended recipient, to name just a few benefits. Color magick is the art of drawing on the magickal correspondences of a color. One of the easiest ways to draw on the power of a color in a spell is by using a colored candle :candle:

From green candles that boost prosperity to golden candles that encourage success, universal white candles to protective black - every candle color has its own energy and uses. This challenge calls on you to explore colored candle magick. Whether you hit the books, get casting, or light up some magickal theroy, feel free to choose a color that calls to you! :rainbow:

Challenge Entry - Colorful Candle Magick

I took advantage of a cat-free moment to do some candle magick. I chose to do a red candle for action and energy. Looking around, I selected items that I felt fit the purpose - a toy horse, tiger’s eye, citrine, and the rune Kenaz (translation = torch).

Perfect way to motivate myself for the day

Love this! And extra love to the toy horse - was he perhaps part of a carousel at some point? He looks ready to leap into the air and take flight. A great addition to a red candle ritual for action! :horse: :sparkles:

Beautiful spellwork, may it bless you with a burst of energy and motivation!

And I knew I forgot something important on Wednesday, but my mind was on packing the suitcase. I forgot the badge poll! Apologies, I’ve got it up now :hammer_and_wrench:

Please feel free to share your thoughts and pick the challenge badge you like best!

I’m glad you asked!

Non-challenge related info on the toy horse

I (of course) found him on one of my recent runs and carried him home. I assumed it was a carousel horse as well, so I thought I’d look online to confirm it. Turns out it looks like it’s from a Cowboys and Indians (Native Americans) series from Elastolin. The “horses were part of a range of toy figures, often associated with military (cavalry) or cowboy sets. They were made in Germany by the company Hausser-Elastolin and later by Preiser. Material: The black horses are made of either painted plastic (post-1960s) or the older, more collectible composition material (sawdust and glue mixture from the 1930s-1950s).”

Given the feathers on his halter, I’m guessing he’s one of the Native American horses, perhaps minus his rider.

It has become rather difficult to get colored tea lights, lately. I used to find them at the Dollar store once in a while, but with the local economy crash, they are refusing to carry many of the products I used to enjoy.

Once in a while, I’d even find colored tea lights at the local thrift stores. Instead, they are now buying white Walmart sets, splitting them in two or three and selling the splits for the full price. I’ll stick with getting the 100 white Walmart sets at Walmart, thanks.

That said, I did quite enjoy buying and burning elemental colors, when I could find them. Sometimes, the scents didn’t mix well, but it was an adventure to see what the place would smell like after burning a set. The apple ones often contained a bit of cinnamon for enhancement and manifestation. When I could find colored tea lights, I would save them for special occasions- holidays and time near the end of winter when I’d get tired of the same old same old. The colors and scents brought a bit of interest and novelty to my practice just before I had to stop burning for the hot days of summer.

Lately I’ve been working on starting my business up cantered around creative expression and holistic wellbeing etc. Ive been working on both skills and practical buisness sides and working on managing my health at the same time and work through some challenges. I had a orange scented candle that id started lighting which I felt was helping to bring creative and positive energy and emotional healing as well as putting me in a mindset that I can do this despite the challenges. This candle was the same as the candle id used in the past as my phoenix candle which celebrated rising from the ashes after tragedy. Its a reminder that no matter what life throws at me, challenges I face or obstacles in my way that even in the darkest of places the embers of passion and life can be found and reignited into a new life. Just like a camp fire that’s burnt down and looks like its died completely ..if you dig beneath the surface the embers below can be found and there is still hope for the fire to be reborn.. just like a phoenix that rises from the ashes. Its been an encouragement to look up at the candle and be reminded even when life feels like uts burying me under the weight of the struggles trying to push through..its darkest right before the dawn. The message I get from this is not to give up no matter how dark things feel because the sun will rise again to enter in a new day, new chapter..

I had family over for my birthday celebration and before the cake we did a Home Blessing Ritual. We have been remodeling our home and added a few additions including an upstairs apartment and a great room/kitchen. Its taken about a year and is mostly done. With the holidays coming I wanted to bless our home.

I used a white candle and a light blue candles , incense and herbs (mugwort, sage rosemary, sweetgrass and bay.) White candle for protection and healing. Light Blue candle for Peace, Family Unity, Devotion and Inspiration.

Gathered us and lit the candles (explained the significance of the candle colors). We meditated for a few minutes and asked all to close eyes and envision the candles light growing larger and larger to envelope our whole home and property. Then did a simple circle of protection spell, followed with this House Blessing Prayer…

“Touch the lintel and touch the wall,
Nothing but blessings here befall!
Bless the candle that stands by itself,
Bless the book on the mantle shelf,
Bless the pillow for the tired head,
Bless the hearth and the light shed.
Friends who tarry here, let them know
A three fold blessing before they go.
Sleep for weariness
peace for sorrow
Faith in yesterday and tomorrow.
Friends who go from here, let them bear
The blessing of hope, wherever they fare.
Lintel and windows, sill and wall,
Nothing but good, this place befall.

So may it be!”

I then smudged the whole house, all the doors and windows of every room, my nephew helped to do the second floor.

Then we gathered for a hug and left the candles to burn out. I didn’t close the circle because I wanted to keep the energy and protection we made. Hope that is right, it felt like the right thing to do.

Blessings.

Leo.

Blue candles are my favorite candles to burn. To me, blue candles embody serenity, intuition, and spiritual communication. They bridge the mind and the heart. Blue candles soothe turbulent emotions while inviting clarity and truth. They are especially potent for spells involving peace, protection, emotional healing, dreamwork, psychic insight, and divine communication. For the full moon we just had, I created a mini ritual to do at my altar. I forgot to take pictures, but I did have ChatGPT help me create an image for it. I titled it “Speak True Under the Blue.” I’ve posted the image and ritual below. I also looked up the magickal correspondences for blue candles, and their elemental influence. This was a fun challenge, and it really made me appreciate blue candles even more! :candle:

Mini Ritual Idea: “Speak True Under the Blue”

  1. On a First Quarter or Full Moon, set a blue candle on your altar.

  2. Surround it with water symbols — seashells, a chalice, or a small mirror.

  3. Write your truth or desire for clarity on blue or white paper.

  4. Speak your words aloud, then safely burn the paper in the candle flame.

  5. Visualize a wave of blue light surrounding your throat and heart — opening you to honest, compassionate expression.

Magickal Correspondences for Blue Candles

Aspect Correspondence
Element Water :ocean:
Planet Jupiter
Zodiac Sagittarius, Pisces, Aquarius
Chakra Throat (Communication, Truth)
Crystals Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite, Aquamarine, Blue Lace Agate
Herbs/Oils Lavender, Chamomile, Sage, Eucalyptus, Frankincense
Intentions Calm, Healing, Wisdom, Truth, Peace, Spiritual Insight

Blue is aligned with the :ocean: Element of Water, representing emotions, intuition, dreams, and healing. I keep my moon water in a glass jar with a bright blue glass lid. I listen to ocean waves all the time to put myself to sleep.

To deepen your practice:

  • Place your candle near a bowl of moon-charged water or seashells.

  • Whisper your intention into the flame as though speaking to the tides — ask the element of Water to carry your message to the unseen currents of energy.

  • Visualize waves washing away emotional clutter, leaving clarity and compassion in their wake.

Blessed Be loves! :herb: :dizzy: :ocean:

A lot of my practice is geared toward grounding and stability, so brown is my chosen candle color for this challenge.

I worked with Co-Pilot to write a simple ritual

(The candle is brown-ish, although it looks pink in this light)

This short candle ritual is designed to help you ground yourself and invite a sense of inner peace, no matter where you are or how much time you have. All you need is a candle and a quiet moment.

In addition to the candle, I selected my obsidian raven, and bloodstone and jasper points.

What You Need

  • One candle (any color, though white, green, or brown are especially calming)

  • Matches or a lighter

  • A quiet, comfortable space

The Ritual Steps

  1. Set Your Space: Find a peaceful spot where you won’t be disturbed. Sit comfortably with the candle in front of you.

  2. Light the Candle: As you light the candle, take a slow, deep breath. Watch the flame and let your attention settle on its gentle, steady glow.

  3. Ground Yourself: Place your feet flat on the floor. Imagine roots extending from the bottoms of your feet deep into the earth, anchoring and supporting you.

  4. Focus on Your Breath: Take several slow, deep breaths. With each inhale, imagine drawing in calm and peace. With each exhale, release tension and worries.

  5. Set an Intention: Silently or aloud, say: “I am grounded, I am peaceful, I am present.” Repeat it as many times as feels right.

  6. Close the Ritual: When you feel ready, thank yourself for this moment of care. Gently blow out the candle, imagining the light of peace staying with you throughout your day.

Aftercare

Take a moment to notice how you feel. Carry the sense of grounding and peace with you, returning to this ritual whenever you need to reset and reconnect with yourself.

CHALLENGE ENTRY - Colorful Candle Magick

I chose a green candle for this Challenge. Green represents the Earth element and spiritual grounding.

My setup:

Backstory:
The little stone pieces in the photo are carved stone amulets that I have had with me for 30 years. Last spring, I realized I had somehow misplaced them - and I’ve been hunting for them ever since, all over the house. On Tuesday, 11-11-25, while searching again in my art room, I had a strange vision or sense of opening a narrow drawer. The only drawers in the art room belong to the 3-drawer wooden storage box that holds my oil pastels. I walked over and without thinking, pulled out the bottom drawer - and there they were. I had such a feeling of relief and peace. I still have no recollection of putting them there.

Here, they fit the green candle’s purpose. The Bear symbolizes connection to the Earth, protection and inner strength. The Wolf symbolizes feminine wisdom and the ability to reconnect with the wild essence within. The Snake, in both Eastern and Yogic traditions, symbolizes deep coiled energy at the base of the spine known as Kundalini - divine feminine energy.

In the back I put a couple of acorns from a recent walk - always a touchstone for connecting to the Earth. The brass candle snuffer was a gift from long ago. The cloth was woven by my mother on her loom.

I lit my candle and meditated, feeling calm, connected, and secure. I’m so grateful to have my little stone friends back! This alone, happening when it did on 11-11, feels like magick! When I finished my meditation, I extinguished the candle. :green_candle:

How wonderful that you found the stone amulets! They are lovely, and to find them like that, on 11/11 was definitely a magical sign!

Thank you! It was kind of amazing. Finding anything that you’ve given up as lost is a great feeling - and these are so special to me. 11-11 turned magickal in an instant! :sparkles:

Weekly Witchy Challenge ENTRY - Colored Candles and Magick

For this week’s Challenge, I have decided to use the Black Candle when working with the Deities: Hecate.

According to the Witchy River Mom: (Leboeuf. Market Street Candles, 2025) When working with Hecate, the Ancient Goddess associated with magic, crossroads, and the night, candle color plays a significant symbolic role in ritual and devotional practices. The choice of candle color can enhance the connection to her energies and invoke specific aspects of her divine nature.
“Candles are powerful tools in both witchcraft and pagan rituals. They are used to amplify intentions, set the mood for rituals, and connect with specific energies. Each color carries unique vibrations and symbolic meanings, making them essential for spell work, meditation, and divination. Here’s a candle color guide to assist you in your spell crafting.” (Marissa, Jan.20, 2025)
Below is a breakdown of Hekate and a Black Candle: (Marissa, Jan.20, 2025)

Symbolism: Banishing, protection, transformation, grounding Often used for:
• Breaking hexes or curses
• Releasing negativity or toxic influences
• Shadow work or diving into the subconscious
• Strengthening boundaries and shielding from harm
Associated Deities: Hecate, Kali, Anubis
Zodiac/Planet: Capricorn, Saturn
Crystals: Obsidian, black tourmaline Here are the primary candle colors traditionally used for Hecate and their associated meanings:

Black: The most common color linked to Hecate, black symbolizes mystery, protection, the unknown, and the night. It represents her role as a guardian of the liminal spaces and the underworld.
Below are a few ways to use the Black Candle Ritual that will resonate with The Goddess Hekate:
Practical Tips for Candle Rituals Dedicated to Hecate
To maximize the effectiveness of candle rituals honoring Hecate, consider the following expert tips:
⦁ Place the candle at a crossroads or in a space symbolizing liminality, as Hecate is the guardian of thresholds.
⦁ Use a tripod candle holder if possible, representing her triple goddess aspect.
⦁ Light the candle with a match or wooden stick to maintain purity of flame.
⦁ Focus on the flame while stating your invocation or intention clearly and confidently.
⦁ Keep the candle burning for the duration of your meditation or spell; if it must be extinguished, do so respectfully, ideally by snuffing rather than blowing it out.
⦁ Dispose of candle remnants in a way that honors the goddess—burying the wax near a tree or at a crossroads is traditional

How to Choose the Right Candle Color for Your Hecate Ritual
Selecting the appropriate candle color for a Hecate ritual depends on multiple factors, including your specific intention, the nature of your working, and your personal connection to the goddess. Here are some guidelines to help make an informed choice:
Define your primary goal: Are you seeking protection, empowerment, guidance, or insight? Clarifying your aim will narrow down which color resonates most strongly.
Consider the phase of the moon: Hecate is closely linked to lunar cycles, especially the new and dark moons. For banishing or protection work, black or red candles under the dark moon might be effective, while white or purple candles align well with waxing moon phases for growth and enlightenment.
Align with the element: Fire is a common element in Hecate worship, so red or black candles are often favored, but air (yellow) and water (blue) colors can be appropriate depending on the ritual focus. Trust your intuition: Sometimes the best candle color is the one that “feels” right. Intuitive connection can be a powerful guide in magical practices.

Learning this information on Magick and Candles has shown me the importance of the connection that they have with the deities and how to properly use them during the rituals.
