Moon water is a staple in the practice of many witches, and for good reason! It is a versatile tool that anyone can make at any time with pretty much any other tools you have on hand! Moon water infuses the energy of the moon into the water you use, giving you a magickal water that can be used for so many things.
Today, I want to talk about some ways you can bolster your moon water, how to make it, and give you ten different ideas for using it!
Making Moon Water
If you have never made moon water, have no fear because it is one of the easiest things you can make for your practice. All you need is water and a container to put it in! Of course, you can add other ingredients depending on your intended use, but the basics just take those two things.
To make moon water, fill a container with water and place it outside under the light of the moon. You can set intentions before you do so, such as, “This moon water will aid the growth of my garden.” Leave the container under the light of the moon all night and collect it in the morning. Then, you can store the water for use later!
I won’t go over a full how-to for moon water, but you can find more information on the Spells8 blog.
Moon Phase Considerations
Did you know that you can make moon water whenever you want? Yup, that’s right! There is no need to wait for a Full Moon to make moon water. Each moon phase has a specific energy that can be useful to infuse in your water. Then, it can be used for different purposes depending on the phase it was collected under!
New Moon
This moon is shrouded in darkness, and though there is no light from the moon, the energy is still there. Make moon water during a new moon for spellwork related to secrecy, new beginnings, rest, and reflection.
Waxing Moon
As the moon grows larger in the sky, it is time for our intentions and energy to grow! Make moon water during a waxing moon for spellwork related to growth, abundance, transformation, and intuition.
Full Moon
The moon shines brightly in the sky during a Full Moon! As the moon illuminates the sky, she is full of energy. Make moon water during a full moon for any purpose you need. This moon water will be potent on its own and does not always need further direction.
Waning Moon
As the moon’s light diminishes in the sky, so too does the energy. The light is fading and we can turn our spellwork toward banishing, releasing, and kicking bad habits. Those are perfect uses for Waning Moon Water!
Zodiac Sign Considerations
Just like the phase of the moon has energy, so does the sign the moon is in when you make the moon water. You can call in the energy of the zodiac sign during the creation of your moon water with a chant, an intention, or a prayer. You can also opt to ignore the sign the moon is in, though I would personally make that intentional, too.
Here are some key concepts to keep in mind for the zodiac signs as you make your moon water.
Aries: adventurous, energetic, impulsive, impatient, and confident
Taurus: patient, loving, reliable, possessive, and determined
Gemini: versatile, communicative, clever, witty, and smart
Cancer: emotional, intuitive, moody, cautious, and protective
Leo: flamboyant, creative, confident, bossy, and enthusiastic
Virgo: modest, practical, diligent, perfectionist, and critical
Libra: diplomatic, charming, sociable, indecisive, and indulgent
Scorpio: determined, mysterious, passionate, jealous, and compulsive
Sagittarius: optimistic, freedom-loving, honest, optimistic, and restless
Capricorn: practical, patient, careful, pessimistic, and reserved
Aquarius: friendly, honest, loyal, detached, and inventive
Pisces: imaginative, sensitive, empathetic, vague, and idealistic
