Throughout history, magick has found its expression in the simplest of tools — earth, water, fire, herbs, and even thread. One of the most accessible and ancient forms of spellcraft is knot magick. Practiced by witches, cunning folk, and mystics across cultures, knot magick uses the act of tying and untying knots to weave intentions into reality. Whether for protection, manifestation, love, or release, the humble knot has been a powerful vessel for magickal energy for centuries.
If you key in knot into the search loads of spells come up, I personally just use any piece of natural rope and with each knot as I knot I speak my intent over each knot. Then I hang it in the window, once the matter is over I then release each knot, thank the gods and burn the rope. But if you search, you may find something more specific.
I LOVE knot magick. I use it for binding and it has NEVER let me down, and works immediately, (next day to 3 days later). I do not cut this cord, I re-use it as needed, and it is long if I need many knots, or fold it in half for a 3 knot spell. So glad you posted this!!
I’ll second Tracy and Lady Gene that any string can be used when its tied with intention. No need to go out and buy special string or study special knots if you don’t wish to! Tying with a goal in mind should work wonderfully
That being said, drawing on certain correspondences can help to further guide and power up the spell, so if you’re looking for specifics, I’d recommend matching the knot and color with your goal. Here are a few ideas you might consider:
COLORS: Gold is ideal for victory and success, black for justice and “tying up” negative forces to bind them, or perhaps white for purity and a fresh start.
KNOTS: I’m not an expert, but I do like the easy Celtic Heart for matters of love or strong emotions. You might also consider a Sailor’s Knot for security, grounding, and stability.
