February 2026 (Join me on a very special Journey!)

A Brief History of Oracle Decks

Oracle decks are older than their modern forms suggest.

Long before printed cards, people sought guidance through stones, bones, symbols, dreams, nature signs, and spoken oracles. Oracle decks evolved as a flexible, intuitive counterpart to structured systems like tarot.

Unlike tarot, oracle decks are not bound to a single tradition, number system, or hierarchy. Each deck creates its own language. Its own cosmology. Its own rules of engagement.

Oracle readings invite relationship rather than mastery. They ask the reader to listen, interpret, and respond rather than decode.

In many ways, oracle decks are conversations with spirit, shaped by the creator and completed by the reader.

The Court of Light and Shadow :sun: :astrology_moon:

This deck is a mirror and a lantern.

It reminds you that growth does not come only from comfort, and healing does not require perfection. The Court teaches that we are allowed to be in process. To grieve and bloom in the same breath. To be fierce and tender without apology.

Each card stands as a member of a living court. Light and Shadow are not enemies here. They are co-rulers.

This is a deck for reflection, not prediction. For conversation, not command. For sitting with what is, instead of forcing what should be.

A Yearly Oracle Practice

Each month of the year carries:

  • A guiding theme

  • A daily question for every day of the month

  • A monthly affirmation

  • A ritual aligned with the New Moon and any seasonal or sabbat energies

Rather than rushing through the month, we walk with it slowly. One card a day. One question at a time. Each month becomes a chapter, each year a deeper conversation.

At the start of every month, we return to the Oracle together to open the next theme, explore its questions, and align our ritual work with the turning of the Wheel.

:waxing_crescent_moon: FEBRUARY — DEVOTION & DESIRE

Court Theme: What we tend, tends us
Seasonal Tone: Hearth-warmth, quiet longing, intentional care
Energetic Focus: Desire as wisdom, devotion without self-abandonment

February asks different questions than January. This is not about clarity through stillness, but truth through attention. What we feed. What we return to. What we choose again and again.

Desire here is not craving or lack. It is the soul’s compass.

Devotion here is not sacrifice. It is alignment.

Hearth & Flame Rite

(Imbolc-aligned)

Ritual Purpose & Steps

Purpose: To bless desire, renew devotion, and tend inner fire
Timing: On the February New Moon, or within the month
Sabbat Energy: Imbolc — hearth, renewal, sacred flame, Brigid-like tending

You’ll need:

  • One white, cream, or pale gold candle (renewal)

  • One red or orange candle (desire / inner flame)

  • Your Court of Light and Shadow deck

  • A small bowl of water or milk (traditional Imbolc symbolism)

  • Paper and pen

Ritual Steps:

  1. Prepare a hearth-like space: a table, altar, or quiet corner. Keep it simple and warm.

  2. Light the red/orange candle first, saying:
I honor the flame of desire within me.

  3. Light the white/gold candle, saying:
I honor devotion that tends this flame with care.

  4. Hold your deck close. Draw one card as your Hearth Keeper for the month — the energy that helps you tend what matters.

  5. On paper, write:

    • One desire you are ready to treat as sacred

    • One devotion you are willing to practice gently

  6. Touch the water or milk and say:
May what I tend be nourished.
May what I love be protected.

  7. Sit quietly for a few breaths, feeling warmth rather than urgency.

  8. Close by thanking the Court. Extinguish the candles together, honoring balance.

:waxing_crescent_moon: Closing the Month

February teaches that magic is not always loud.

Sometimes it is a hand on the hearth.
A choice repeated.
A desire finally believed.

Earthshaper — Foundation Keywords: Foundation, Stability, Sacred labor, Patience, Long-term vision, Grounded magic, Ancestral strength, Building what lasts Earth Shaper appears when you are being asked to slow down and build something that can hold weight. This is not fast magic or flashy transformation. It is the deep, steady work of laying roots, shaping form, and trusting that what is built with care will endure. Every small action matters here. What you tend now becomes the ground you stand on later.

Faerie Lore: The Earth Shaper is said to belong to the First Stone Court, a quiet lineage of fae who remember when the world was still soft and listening. With hands warmed by living light, she molds mountains the way others shape clay, whispering intentions into every ridge and root. Vines grow where her fingers rest, anchoring land and memory together. She does not rush, for she knows the earth learns through repetition and patience. When she appears, she reminds us that true power is not in sudden upheaval, but in the sacred act of shaping a life, a home, or a destiny one deliberate touch at a time.

I believe I am being asked to slow down with my journey, which makes sense as I am learning so much at the moment, take a step back look around me and take my time :dizzy:

43. Mistwalker — Mystery

Keywords: Veils, liminal spaces, subtle truths, inner knowing, the unseen, trusting intuition, between worlds, quiet revelations Mist Walker appears when clarity is not meant to arrive all at once. This card invites you to move slowly, listen inwardly, and trust what you sense rather than what you can clearly see. Not all mysteries are meant to be solved immediately. Some are meant to be lived.

Faerie Lore: The Mist Walkers are said to dwell where the worlds thin, at dawn, at dusk, and in moments of deep uncertainty. Veiled in
silver fog, they guide travelers who have stepped off the mapped paths and into questions without names. They do not give answers outright, instead they illuminate just enough ground for the next step. Will-o’-wisps gather around them like curious thoughts, flickering gently to remind mortals that mystery is no danger, but invitation. To meet a Mist
Walker is to learn that not knowing is sometimes the most sacred form of wisdom.

I think I’m devoted to my intuition. I trust it more then I did in my younger days and it never let’s me down.

Flameheart Sylph — Passion
Keywords: Passion, creative fire, vitality, desire, courage, inspiration,
inner spark, embodied joy, sacred heat

This card ignites what has gone dormant. Flame Heart Sylph calls you
back into your body, your creativity, and your longing for life. It signals a
time to act from desire rather than obligation, to let enthusiasm guide
your choices, and to trust the wisdom of what makes you feel vividly alive.

Farie Lore: Among the elemental courts, the Flame Heart Sylph is
said to be born from the first spark ever struck between will and
wonder. She dances within embers and golden flame, not to destroy, but
to awaken. Wherever her wings stir the air, artists remember why they
create, lovers remember why they chose each other, and weary souls
feel warmth seep back into their bones. The old fae whisper that she
appears only when passion is needed as medicine, when the heart must
burn clean of doubt and fear. To see her is to be reminded that fire,
when honored, is not chaos, but devotion made visible.

This card shows me that, even when I’m exhausted or struggling, I am still devoted to staying connected to life :dizzy:

Day. 3

Where has desire been silenced or shamed?

Spirit of Birch — New Beginnings Keywords: Renewal, fresh starts, resilience, cleansing, rebirth, gentle strength, hope, adaptability, awakening potential

This card speaks of beginnings that arrive quietly but powerfully. The Spirit of Birch reminds you that even after hardship, life knows how to start again. Growth does not need permission. It simply unfolds when the time is right.

Faerie Lore: In the oldest forests, it is said the birch was the first tree to return after fire or frost, and from its pale bark stepped the Spirit of Birch at dawn. She emerges slowly, peeling herself from the living trunk as new leaves unfurl around her, carrying the memory of winter but not its weight. Fair folk believe she appears when a soul is ready to begin again, not with force, but with tenderness. Her magic is subtle. A whispered yes. A cleared path. A reminder that starting over does not erase the past, it honours survival. Wherever birch grows, hope has already decided to stay.

This card shows me that I quieted my desires for safety. I’m allowed to let them return.

Deck: Stained Glass (Etsy)

Such a wonderful symbol! The Caduceus is a well known puppy!

Hermes’ caduceus is a symbol of communication, swift travel, and harmony between realms. This card signals messages, journeys, and balance in movement. I can accept that!

As an aside, the Caduceus was a medical symbol for almost a hundred years until someone realized the wrong symbol was used. They meant to use the Rod of Asclepius - but the whole thing got out of hand.

Day 4. What do I long for beneath the surface want?

Foxglove Twins — Duality
Keywords: Dual nature, Light and shadow, Balance, Integration, Inner
truth, Choice, Sacred contradiction, Wholeness This card speaks of embracing both sides of yourself without forcing a verdict. Growth comes not from choosing light overshadow, but from letting them meet, recognize one another, and stand in shared truth.

Faerie Lore: In the foxglove groves, where blossoms ring like quiet
bells between worlds, the Foxglove Twins were born from a single
breath of magic split at dawn and dusk. One learned to carry warmth,
hope, and visibility; the other learned to cradle grief, secrecy, and depth.
Long ago, the fae feared the shadowed twin and praised the radiant one, until the forest itself began to wither. Only when the twins reunited,
palm to palm, did the foxglove bloom again, poisonous and healing both, just as truth often is. It is said that when the Twins appear to a seeker, they are asking a gentle but fearless question: Which part of yourself have you exiled, and what wisdom waits there for you if you invite it home?

Think this card is saying I do not need to fight myself, I am able to have good and bad days, be strong and tired, I want peace with all parts of myself. :raising_hands:

12. Circle of Kindred Souls — Connection

Keywords: Belonging | soul family | mutual support | shared magic | harmony | chosen kin | unity | trust | resonance | collective joy

This card speaks of heartfelt connection. You are not meant to walk alone right now. Support flows both ways, and shared intention multiplies strength. When kindred spirits gather, something luminous is born.

Faerie Lore: Among the fair folk, the Circle of Kindred Souls is not formed lightly. It appears only when hearts beat in quiet agreement and no one seeks to stand above another. The fae say the glow at the circle’s center is not spell craft at all, but recognition. Each fairy brings a fragment of light carried since birth, and when their hands meet, those fragments remember one another. The forest listens when such circles form, because vows spoken in unity ripple farther than any solitary wish. To be welcomed into this circle is to be seen, held, and woven into a living constellation of belonging.

Reflection: I’ve always been a loner and have very few friends - I’m not the type of person who has friends over for coffee, I don’t go out with groups of girlfriends. But I really value the companionship in the Coven, and I’m also getting more comfortable, and enjoy being appreciated and feeling worthy, among the ladies of the garden club. Those connections, after a lifetime of self-imposed solitude (other than my spouse), nourish me more than I admit.

Day 6. Where am I giving energy out of obligation rather than love?

The Forest Gate — Thresholds
Keywords: Threshold, Initiation, Choice, Transition, Courage, Liminal
Space, Becoming, Sacred Pause

The Forest Gate appears when you are standing at the edge of change.
Something old has loosened its grip, and something new is quietly waiting for your consent. This card speaks of moments where hesitation is natural but remaining still too long becomes its own choice. You are not being rushed. You are being invited.

Faerie Lore: Hidden where sunlight fractures into green gold stands
the Forest Gate — a living arch of vine and bark. Two fae guard its path,
letting only the sincere pass through. Those who cross find themselves
changed, for the forest tests the truth of every heart.

I think this card is telling me not to rush forward, but to stop feeding what no longer feeds me.

Fabulous Friday Faerie Friends,

Eira, are Oracle and Lenormand the same thing? I love these daily pulls, they are helping me understand the cards so much better. It is almost becoming a second sense. Lady Gene :flower_playing_cards: :magic_wand:

I feel they are two different types of divination. Oracle readings are really good for tuning into your emotions and encourages deep thinking. Dan could explain Lenormand much better than I could. I’m still a newbie. I’m hoping next week I can get a physical deck so I can-do hands-on learning while I continue to read Rana George’s book.

@dan3 Help lol!

They are! However, and weirdly, creating a spread and reading it kinda matches all the card divination groups… even runes. But Oracle is more often done as a single card and a daily dose of intuition - but that isn’t a rule at all.

Oracle is not a fixed system - any number of cards can be in a deck. The meanings vary by creator. It is described as more intuitive. Usually, the cards can stand alone. Oracle is more reflective and open ended. It is good for answering “What’s the energy?” It has a spiritual tone. Your intuition leads.

Lenormand is a fixed system of cards and each card has a traditional meaning. Lenormand is read in combinations (usually 3 or more). It would be hard to use single cards. Lenormand is good for answering ‘When, What, How’. It has clear outcomes and deals more with everyday life. The system shows the way (or leads).

Tarot joins with Lenormand in some of the style. Which is why we often hear people compare the two. Tarot is more detailed in execution and mastery if for no other reason than there are 78 Tarot cards and they have upright and reversed meanings. However, both systems work well.

I could drone on about this for a while but I hope what is here helps.
