đź“– Spells8 Book Club XXXXI (Aug. 16 - Sep. 13)

Welcome to all of the witchy book-lovers here in the forum!

:books: :mage:

Thank you again to everyone who joined in for last month’s reading session! For those who haven’t yet shared their thoughts about their book (or anyone who enjoys reading book reviews!) you still have time to do so in :memo: Spells8 Book Club XXXX - Readers’ Reviews!.

As of today, the 41st book club reading session has now begun !

On Your Mark, Get Set, READ! :books:

  1. Begin by announcing your book
The first post below is an editable wiki post- add your book title and name to the list! (instructions below)

  2. Know that you have [[ 4 weeks ]] in this reading session
While it is great if you can finish your book during this time, it is okay if you break it into chapters or sections- do as much as you can and know that doing your best is always good enough!

  3. As you’re reading, feel free to share your thoughts!
You are very welcome to share any thoughts or tidbits while you read in the comments below or in a new post in the forums. Just save the best parts for the final discussion at the end of the reading period!

  4. Join the final discussion
After four weeks, a discussion post will open encouraging all readers to share a review of their book and any personal thoughts they have about it. A mini-review is perfectly fine, and there will be a suggested format for anyone who would like to write a longer review.

A note about sharing books:

While everyone is free to choose their own book, you may consider reading along with someone else ! It is fun to share thoughts and insights about different books and even more exciting to do in-depth about a book with fellow readers :handshake:

If the book you plan to read is already on the list below, add your name to the list of others reading that book! Please keep in mind that everyone will reconvene and chat together in the Reader’s Reviews discussion, regardless of which book you read :books:

I just got The Crooked Path this week and already am halfway through the first chapter, so I think I might actually be able up do this book club this reading session

I look forward to hearing more about it!

I’ve heard great things about that book but never read it myself. I hope you enjoy it and let us know what you think!

Oh my gosh, Amethyst, I think you’re really going to enjoy this book! It’s one of my favorites for long-time witches. I really look forward to hearing what you think!

For this month’s book club, I will be reading Sweet of Love: An Anthology for Bast and Bast-Mut by Chelsea Luellon Bolton. Researching my Goddesses is an important part of my journey (in fact, I have an entire section in my Book of Shadows binder dedicated to everything I find on Them). I look forward to what this book about Bastet has in store~! I’ve been holding off on reading it for until now :pink_heart:

This session I’ll be reading Artio and Artaois: A Journey Towards the Celtic Bear Gods by Andrew Anderson (along with continuing last sessions book that I didn’t finish).

I’ve been searching for a deity to work with and I think Artio might be one I connect with from my heritage!

I’m reading Energy Magic: A Basic and Advanced Guide for Witches & Pagans.
It was recommended to me by my spiritual director.

I’m excited about it and learning more about energy work, centering, grounding, visualization, etc. :full_moon_with_face:

I love this book so far :pink_heart:

It talks about Bastet’s history, includes tidbits of Her lore, has some rituals you can do with Her (both ancient and modern), and lists some of Her favorite offerings. It also talks about Bast-Mut and how She came to be, along with rituals and offerings for Her. It fascinates me :black_cat: :sparkles:

I’ve never heard of those deities! What Celtic region are they from? I hope you share more with us as you learn about them - and I hope you enjoy the book!

That sounds like a book I need to add to my TBR!

Hooray! :black_cat:  That’s so good to hear!

2 posts were merged into an existing topic: :memo: Spells8 Book Club XXXXI - Readers’ Reviews!

Now I’m going to start:
Discovering Christian Witchcraft A Beginners Guide for everyday practice by Emyle D. Prata and Sara Raztresen.

This I’m excited to read, as it includes forbidden texts from the scriptures, how angels and demons really work along with a whole lot more. I’ve bought the paper copy so it can’t be deleted from sale anytime in the future should the church get wind of its existence  unless they physically take it off me. :boxing_glove:

I’m glad to hear you really enjoyed the book despite some negative viewpoints of the author! It sounds like you really learned a lot from this one.

I can’t wait to hear all about this one, too! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Now I will start reading Goddess Magic by Aurora Kane, but I will likely not be finished with it by the time this book club ends so it will be for both this one and the next book club :pink_heart: :cherry_blossom:

It’s time for a friendly reminder!

:grey_exclamation: The current reading period will conclude at the end of next week (Friday, Sept. 13, 2024):grey_exclamation:

A Reader’s Review post will appear in the forums at that time for everyone to share their thoughts and hear all about what your fellow coven members have been reading.

I’m looking forward to hearing about your books- happy reading! :open_book: :sparkles:

Yeah, I didn’t get very far with my book, spent time getting the self-care and tarot threads for the month up and running, and then went on vacation for 7 days. I had no time whatsoever to sit long enough to read, so I will extend the to the next reading session.
