Welcome to all of the witchy book-lovers here in the forum!
Thank you again to everyone who joined in for last month’s reading session! For those who haven’t yet shared their thoughts about their book (or anyone who enjoys reading book reviews!) you still have time to do so in Spells8 Book Club XXXXI - Readers’ Reviews! .
As of today, the 42nd book club reading session has now begun !
On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!
Begin by announcing your book
The first post below is an editable wiki post- add your book title and name to the list! (instructions below)
Know that you have [[ 4 weeks ]] in this reading session
While it is great if you can finish your book during this time, it is okay if you break it into chapters or sections- do as much as you can and know that doing your best is always good enough!
As you’re reading, feel free to share your thoughts!
You are very welcome to share any thoughts or tidbits while you read in the comments below or in a new post in the forums. Just save the best parts for the final discussion at the end of the reading period!
Join the final discussion
After four weeks, a discussion post will open encouraging all readers to share a review of their book and any personal thoughts they have about it. A mini-review is perfectly fine, and there will be a suggested format for anyone who would like to write a longer review.
A note about sharing books:
While everyone is free to choose their own book, you may consider reading along with someone else ! It is fun to share thoughts and insights about different books and even more exciting to do in-depth about a book with fellow readers
If the book you plan to read is already on the list below, add your name to the list of others reading that book! Please keep in mind that everyone will reconvene and chat together in the Reader’s Reviews discussion, regardless of which book you read
I’m reading a book called On the Bank of Oblivion this month! I picked it up at the Maine Book Fest a few weeks ago, and while it’s not non-fiction, it’s definitely pagan-related. Here’s the book synopsis.
When Owen first feels the tickle in his throat, he doesn’t think it’s a big deal.
Everybody gets sick sometimes, right? The problem is, he never seems to get back to normal. With the threat of summer school hanging over his head and a new art project on his mind, he doesn’t want to think about what his symptoms might mean.
Avoiding the sneaking suspicion that something is wrong brings him to the bank of a mysterious river. There Lethe, the goddess of Oblivion, offers to take away all his bad feelings.
I am enjoying Goddess Magic so far~! It gives suggestions on meditations and spells to do with your Goddesses and I like its suggestion on journaling with Them, which is something I already do but seeing it in this book feels very validating to me, if that makes sense?
I just started this book but I’m enjoying it so far! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on which goddesses call to you, if any . Lately I feel like I’m being drawn to Isis and Hecate for different reason, so I am excited to get to their sections of the book.
Here are my thoughts on Goddess Magic so far. Note: this isn’t a review, just a live thoughtshare as I read it. The review won’t be for until after I’ve finished it
I appreciate the author for keeping us neurodivergent witches in mind, when she talks about working with Goddess energy and setting intentions. Aurora reminds us that even if we don’t see results right away, the Goddesses do hear us and They help us in Their own time and when They believe it best to do so. We must be patient and believe in Them, and be kind to Them as well as to ourselves. Some of us neurodivergent witches can be nervous and impatient, so it’s important for us to have faith and trust that everything will work out, even if the results don’t happen right away or when we expect them to. Aurora gives advice on how to practice mindful meditation that not only helps us connect with our Goddesses and our inner goddess, but also helps us relieve stress, reduce anxiety, and calm our racing thoughts. I appreciate this reminder very much!
I’m excited to read it! The author has a few other books out that all have some pagan-leaning themes so if I like this one I’ll probably get the others. The bonus is that the author is a Maine native and I was lucky enough to get this copy signed!
That absolutely makes sense! It’s great when we find the things we’ve been doing have been done by others. It lets us know that our intuition about the subject was most likely correct.
I’m glad you’re enjoying the book so far!
That’s awesome, @me1 Are you reading the same book as Nhaama? We can add your entry to the book club above, too, if you’d like!
@Artemisia I’m excited to see you’re reading The Crooked Path – I’ve read it before and remember absolutely loving it, and I’ve been looking for an excuse to read it again! I look forward to re-reading it and discussing it with you!
It’s good to see you too! I’m always looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks of their books – I’m a total book nerd No “ragrets” – not even a single letter
How is everyone’s reading going? I will admit that school has left me little time to read but I am hoping to get in a good chunk of my book later today!
I’m loving my book, except more than half the rituals need to be done outside. Which I can’t really do. But they’re lovely rituals. I wish I could do them!
