Hey, everyone! I’ve been thinking of the Merkaba symbol lately, and I remembered sharing this PDF in a topic from 2021:
The PDF includes a lot of symbolism and a meditation to activate your light body. However it’s 50 pages long so I figured it’d be nice to have a simple introduction that’s still useful.
What Is the Merkaba Symbol?
Let’s start with the basics. The Merkaba symbol is this beautiful, complex shape made of two interlocking tetrahedrons (think 3D triangles). It looks like a star, which is why you’ll often hear it called a “Star Tetrahedron.”
You can see the resemblance with the Star of David in the Hermetic tradition, where the hexagram is seen as a symbol of the union of opposites. It represents the harmony between the macrocosm (the universe) and the microcosm (the individual).
This symbol aligns with the Hermetic principle of "As above, so below," which reflects the belief that the microcosm and macrocosm are interconnected and reflect one another. The upward-pointing triangle symbolizes the spiritual, the divine, or the fire element, while the downward-pointing triangle represents the material, the earthly, or the water element.
But unlike the flat Star of David, the Merkaba’s three-dimensional structure is thought to create an energy field around us—a sort of spiritual force field, if you will.
Where Does the Word “Merkaba” Come From?
Alright, let’s break down the word “Merkaba” itself because it’s not just a random name. It’s actually an ancient term with roots in Hebrew and Egyptian traditions.
- Mer: This means “Light.”
- Ka: This refers to “Spirit.”
- Ba: This means “Body.”
So, when you put it together, Merkaba basically means “Light-Spirit-Body.”
It’s all about connecting these three aspects of our being—our physical form, our spiritual essence, and the divine light that surrounds us. Ancient texts talk about the Merkaba as a chariot or vehicle that takes you to higher realms.
The Merkaba’s shape is inherently linked to the Flower of Life and Metatron’s Cube through Sacred Geometry.
Many believe it’s tied to the Tree of Life from the Kabbalah, and the philosopher’s stone too.
How to Use the Merkaba
Understanding the meaning of the Merkaba is one thing, but in practice it can be a tool for your spiritual journey.
Visualizing the Merkaba around your body creates a protective shield. This can be especially useful in meditation or any spiritual practice.
It can also help in moving to higher states of consciousness. Think of it as your personal spaceship for journeying through the spiritual realms.
Here’s the gist:
-
Breathwork: You use specific breathing techniques to fill your body with prana (life force energy).
-
Visualization: As you breathe, you visualize the two tetrahedrons spinning in opposite directions around you, creating the Merkaba field.
-
Focus on Love: It’s important to keep your heart filled with unconditional love during this process. That’s the key to making the Merkaba come to life.
