I’ve been playing around with sigils lately, and today I want to explore some elemental symbols. Specifically, the alchemical symbol for Air.
It’s a simple, elegant triangle but it carries so much spiritual weight.
Whether you’re sketching it on your altar tools or using it in meditation, understanding its deeper meaning can really lift your practice to new heights.
Why is the Symbol for Air a Triangle?
The alchemical symbol for air 🜁 traces back to Plato’s linking of air with the octahedron (each face being an equilateral triangle) in his work Timaeus.
Medieval and Renaissance alchemists then distilled this into the triangle shape and added the bar to denote air’s Aristotelian “wet” quality.
