:water_element: WITCH CHALLENGE - Water Magick

Merry meet!

Thank you once again to all those who joined in for last week’s Witch Challenge - Air Magick :air_element:

As above, so below, and one element leads into the next. After exploring air magick last week, we’re moving into a neighboring force. Get ready to jump in and dive deep :ocean:

The theme for this challenge is…

:water_element: :ocean: Water Magick :cup_tarot: :droplet:

Water is the element of the deep sea and the liquid that gives us life. It is the water we drink and the emotions that swell in our hearts. Associated with the Suit of Cups in tarot, water is tied to feelings and emotional states. It is an element of intuition, tides, and the deeper pulls that guide our hearts.

There are some suggestions for how to explore this theme below, and if you’re looking for additional inspiration, feel free to revisit entries shared in the previous water-aligned challenges: Of the Element Water :ocean: and Splish Splash Spellwork :droplet:

Oh, I have so many ideas living near a Lake!!! Let’s see what I can get done :ocean:

Finally, I catch a challenge at the beginning! And being a California native living in a beach city, I grew up with the ocean in my veins! So excited. Now to think about what I want to do!

Update: I figured out what I am going to do! I am going to create an "Element of Water Tarot Spread" and I will share all the bells and whistles for anyone who is interested in doing the spread themselves along with pictures of my own reading.

This is going to be fun!

Hmmm I will have to think about this. I’m Cancerian, which is a water sign, but I’m land-locked here. I’m sure I’ll come up with something

Also - if we are starting to repeat some of these challenges so that the names are already taken in the forum, perhaps we could add “Elemental” to the title. So – Elemental Water Witch, etc. etc. Just an idea

Pinterest is always showing me stuff it thinks I would be interested in, and look what it highlighted today  I didn’t realize Spells8 had a TikTok

@stephanieanne76 I love the idea of a Water Elemental Tarot Spread! Can’t wait to hear more about it - have fun! :blue_heart: :sparkles:

@jayne I love the suggestion so much that I can happily say we already have a Water Elemental badge - it was actually the badge given to the first Water Challenge in the forum! (Great mind think alike  :handshake: ). Since “Water Elemental” and “Water Witch” are out there, this will be the third water badge. It looks like, as of right now, there’s one in the lead - but we’ll see what happens over the course of the challenge! And that’s so funny that your Pinterest aligns perfectly - what a coincidence (or synchronicity!) :+1:

I did some searches for water correspondences, and there are many. I chose those that I have on hand or can get easily.

Go with the flow
Gather a few items:

  • Blue candle
  • Jasmine oil
  • Eucalyptus (dried)
  • Clear quartz crystal
  • Incense
  • Bowl of water (moon, river, spring, tap)

Set up

  1. Dress your candle with jasmine oil and eucalyptus.
  2. Light your candle and incense.
  3. Place the bowl of water on your altar.
  4. Place your crystal intuitively on your altar or hold in your hand.

Begin

  1. Transition into a meditative (alpha) state in whatever way you normally would.
  2. Gaze into the water.
  3. Connect with the spirit of the water or your own guide(s).

While gazing into the water ask:

  • What emotions are flowing through me today?
  • What am I resisting or trying to control?
  • In what area of my life do I need to let it flow?

Thank your guides

Affirm
“I am fluid, calm, and strong like water. I flow through all things.”

Journal what you learned about your flow state.
Extinguish your candle or let it burn out.

Witch Challenge – Water Magick

I have been lucky at times. I had careers that took me around the world and offered me experiences that only people much richer than me could reasonably afford. Whether it be snorkeling over Grecian relics in the Mediterranean, diving wrecks in the Gulf of Siam, exploring under water caves in Florida or hanging quietly at 100 feet looking into the depths of Cay Sal banks, I had so many beautiful opportunities to reflect on how powerful, beautiful, and full of abundance water is.

I started this challenge by trying to find my pictures of my adventures and realized they were somewhere in the attic (no man’s land in our house). I settled for getting comparative pictures from the web.

How the Water Elemental Enhances My Path

Beneath the surface of ordinary creation flows a hidden current—mystical, ancient, and alive. It is the presence of the Water Elemental, a spirit of depth, emotion, and transformation. As both a diver and a believer in beliefs – specifically the Chaos version of that - I respect this elemental ally. It adds to my understanding in ways that are fluid, intuitive, and powerfully enchanted.

Magic(k) in Motion

Water is never still for long. It moves, it shifts, it adapts. When I dive beneath the surface, whether it be the sea or fresh water, I enter a realm ruled by the Water Elemental. It teaches me to move with grace, to read unseen currents, and to trust the rhythms of nature. Above all, it teaches me respect for something much bigger than it first seems. This energy flows within me, helping ideas to unfold organically.

One of the most powerful moments I’ve experienced with the Water Elemental was diving off the Cay Sal Banks (picture above), where the sea feels untouched and otherworldly. As I descended into crystalline blue, surrounded by walls of reef and sudden drop-offs into ink-black depths, I felt like I am entering a temple. My breath became a mantra. The silence became a spell. It wasn’t just diving—it was initiation and awareness.

Emotional Alchemy

The Water Elemental is an ancient sorcerer of feeling and flow. With its guidance, I weave emotion into every piece I create—whether it’s a work of art, a spell, or a written word. Like the ocean, my path holds mysteries: calm on the surface, but layered with tides of meaning below. The water teaches me to channel intuition as a source of power and to trust the wisdom that bubbles up from the deep.

During a wreck dive in the Gulf of Siam, I explored the skeletal remains of a sunken vessel—half-consumed by coral, cloaked in silt, and alive with ghostly schools of fish. As I swam through rusted passageways and felt the weight of history press around me, the Water Elemental whispered of memory, decay, and rebirth. That dive became a meditation on transformation—and it shaped the way I see my own work: as something that emerges from the ruins of the past, enchanted by what remains.

The Dive as Spellwork

Scuba diving, for me, is not just adventure—it’s ritual. It is communion with the Water Elemental in its purest form. Submerged, I enter a trance-like state where time slows, breath deepens, and awareness expands. In these blue cathedrals, inspiration rises like bubbles to the surface. Every dive is a spell, every current a message, every glimpse of marine life a symbol in an ongoing conversation with the magic(k) of the deep.

My Path Blessed by the Element

Often when I create, the Water Elemental is present—not as a metaphor, but as a force. Its magic infuses my work with softness, strength, and mystery. Like waves reshaping stone, its influence is both gentle and unstoppable.

The only water I don’t like is swimming pool water – it doesn’t have the magick.

I created this spread as a sacred way to connect with the healing, intuitive, and emotional flow of the Element of Water. It’s designed to gently uncover what lies beneath the surface, what moves us in the present, what is leaving, what nourishes us, what truths we must face, and where our path is flowing next. I used The Good Tarot by Colette Baron-Reid for this reading, which offers gentle, affirmational insight rooted in spiritual growth — but this spread works beautifully with any deck you’re called to use. Whether you’re seeking clarity, emotional release, or a deeper connection with your inner world, this spread invites you to slow down, feel deeply, and listen to the quiet wisdom of your spirit. :ocean::sparkles:

:merman: Card Positions & Meanings:

  1. The Depths (What lies beneath)
What emotion, memory, or pattern is influencing me from below the surface?
  2. The Current (What moves me now)
What energy or situation is carrying me forward or pulling me off course emotionally?
  3. The Tides (What is leaving)
What emotional lesson or relationship is ebbing away, making space for renewal?
  4. The Rain (What nourishes me)
What brings emotional and spiritual healing into my life right now?
  5. The Reflection (What I must face)
What truth about myself is ready to be seen with clarity and compassion?
  6. The River’s Path (Where it flows next)
Where is my emotional or spiritual journey headed if I stay aligned with my intuition?

Optional Ritual Before the Reading:

  • Set a bowl of water nearby.
  • Drop in a few petals, shells, or herbs.
  • Stir gently and say:

“Spirit of Water, show me what flows unseen.
Cleanse my sight, my heart, my path.
I open to healing. I open to truth.”

:herb: Herbs for the Tarot Ritual

You don’t need to use all of these — choose what resonates most with your spirit, or what you already have in your apothecary:

:ocean: Core Water Element Herbs:

  • Chamomile – for inner peace, emotional healing, and calling in compassion
  • Blue Lotus – heightens spiritual awareness and dreams (excellent for divination)
  • Rose – heart-opening, self-love, emotional clarity
  • Lemon Balm – soothing, helps calm emotional turbulence
  • Lavender – promotes intuitive clarity and energetic cleansing
  • Mugwort – opens the third eye, strengthens visions, spirit contact (use sparingly)
  • Jasmine – draws in spiritual connection and deep dreamwork
  • Willow Bark – associated with lunar energy, flow, and release

:cyclone: Which Way to Stir the Water?

In elemental ritual, direction matters because it helps set energetic intention:

  • Clockwise – to invite energy in.
➤ Use this when you’re opening your space, inviting clarity, connecting to Spirit, or calling in your guides.
  • Counterclockwise – to release or banish energy.
➤ Use this if you’re letting go of emotional blocks, pain, or confusion.

For this spread:

:right_arrow: Start by stirring clockwise 3 or up to 9 times as you say your invocation (something like “I open to receive the wisdom of water and my spirit guides”).
:right_arrow: If you’re doing shadow work or letting go (especially during The Tides or The Reflection card), you may stir counterclockwise during that moment as a release gesture.

:crescent_moon: What to Do with the Water and Herbs After Your Reading

🜄 1. Offer It Back to Nature

  • Why: Water is life, and when you return it to the Earth, you complete the elemental exchange with gratitude.
  • How:
    • Gently pour it at the base of a tree, into a stream, pond, garden, or flower bed.
    • As you pour, say:

“I return this water and these blessings to the Earth. May peace flow, and may my gratitude ripple outward. So, mote it be.”

 2. Use It as a Blessing Water

  • If the energy still feels strong and clear, you can:
    • Sprinkle a little around your altar or sacred space.
    • Use it to cleanse ritual tools or crystals (check they’re water-safe).
    • Dab a small amount on your wrists or heart center for emotional alignment.

:fire: 3. Dispose Mindfully Indoors (if Nature Offering isn’t possible)

  • How:
    • Strain the herbs first (optional).
    • Pour the water into your sink with reverence, not like garbage.
    • Say a short closing like:

This work is done. I release all energy with love and grace.”

  • You can compost or return the herbs to the Earth separately when possible or toss in your trash with mindfulness.

For my own reading, I pulled the following cards:

1. 7 of Earth
2. 7 of Fire
3. 9 of Water
4. 4 of Air
5. 7 of Air
6. Hanged Man

My Interpretation:
Lately, I’ve been feeling called to reconnect with my emotional and spiritual path. Beneath the surface, I realized I’ve been carrying frustration — feeling like I’ve been doing the inner work but not seeing the growth yet. Right now, I’m being moved by this fiery need to stand fully in my truth, even if it sets me apart. I’m letting go of old wishes and ideas of happiness that no longer fit who I’m becoming. I’m learning that healing doesn’t come from doing more — it comes from resting, reflecting, and just being. Spirit showed me that I’ve been hiding parts of myself to feel accepted, but I’m ready to drop the mask and embrace my full, magical self. My path forward isn’t about rushing or forcing — it’s about surrendering to the pause and trusting the transformation that’s happening deep within. This reading reminded me that I’m not stuck — I’m simply in the sacred stillness between who I was and who I’m becoming. :cyclone::droplet:

I hope everyone enjoys it! Blessed Be loves :herb: :dizzy:

Witch Challenge for Amethyst:

Hey everyone! I wasn’t sure what to do with this one first but I got some sort of sinus … thing when I woke up Sunday. So, I made a cup of Twinning’s Lemon and Ginger tea and stirred the tea and used this chant:

Root of fire, fruit of the sun,
cure my illness before it’s begun!

I chanted that three times while stirring clockwise, visualizing increasing health. I finished off with a So Mote it be.

I did this for three days in a row, and I woke up today much better! The sinus thing is gone! But I figure this works for water magic, since it is tea and water is the main ingredient.

Hope this helps someone else!

Today I did a Water Blessing Ritual for Inner Harmony that I found in the May issue of Wicca Magazine.

Very simple and very soothing.

It just needed a small bowl of fresh water and a small crystal such as aquamarine or amethyst (I used amethyst) and a blue or white candle. I also sprinkled some lavender on the water to infuse it with the calming properties of lavender, but that step was optional.

I lit the candle, focusing on its flame, representing the clarity and balance I am seeking, illuminating the path to inner harmony.

As I focused on the flame, I said “By this flame I call for peace, to steady the mind and grant release. Let calmness flow and balance remain, as harmony spreads through my spirit again.

Then I held my hands over the bowl of water, closed my eyes and visualized the water glowing with a soft radiance. I focused on my intention to restore peace and harmony within myself and said "Water pure, of flow and grace, cleanse my heart and hold this space. Wash away what does not serve, bring balance back I rightly deserve."

Next I dipped my fingers into the cool water and anointed my forehead, heart and hands, imagining the water clearing away negativity and said “With water’s touch, I am made whole, calm in spirit and clear in soul. Let harmony flow, let peace remain, within my heart and through my veins.”

I sat with the candle and the bowl of water and meditated to some Celtic music on YouTube for a few minutes.

Then I sealed the blessing by holding the amethyst over the water, allowing it to absorb the energy and act as a vessel for the peace and balance my ritual has cultivated. I said:" “This water blessed, the balance found, I carry it forth, my heart unbound. With gratitude, I end this rite, harmony flows though day and night.”

Quite a synchronicity that this particular topic should be featured in Wicca magazine for May - there was a whole section on “The Sacred Waters of May for Purification and Renewal” written by Beverly Davis. I’m not sure if she wrote the particular ritual I did or not.

Challenge Entries - Water Magick :ocean:

I ended up doing a few things already and have one more to go!

  • Gathered water from the lake to make New Moon water.
I had the perfect jar for this! I gathered the water from the lake on Saturday. I’ve been a bit less formal with my spells and rituals lately and talk more in a conversational tone. I poured a bit of the water back into the lake as tribute and thanked the lake spirits.

I plan to use some of this when I consecrate the crow skull.

  • Storm Water - When I saw @marina 's post about collecting storm water, I rushed out and put out a bottle in the rain. No pictures of it out in the rain, as I didn’t think of it. I was amazed at the end of the day when I brought the bottle in, that I collected the same amount as was reported for the day.

I did get it up on the windowsill, so it’s charged by the New Moon as well. I haven’t quite decided what to do with this

Today, I spent some time building my relationship with the lake spirits.

  • First I created a sigil using the currents and flow of the lake as inspiration. I threw out a couple of ideas and came up with it on my third try. I go with the flow. I reduced the letters and freehand combined them. I don’t think I’ve ever made one on the first try, but this time

I took a photo of it to bring with me when I went out to the lake.

I brought biodegradable offerings with me. I chose my 2 clover garlands that I made for Beltane. I picked my favorite spot by the lake, and grounded myself. I greeted the lake spirit and then spent some time listening to the water and what she had to say. I thank the spirit and put my offerings in the water.

I traced the sigil in the mud on the shore three times. (It’s pretty difficult to see it in this photo.)

I looked in the water in front of me and noticed something odd growing out of a submerged tree root.

I pulled out a rock covered in moss that was wrapped by the tree roots. It was the strangest thing.

Spur of the moment, I pledged to trash-pick the shoreline weekly and started picking up plastics and aluminum on the banks.

While I gathered the last few pieces, I found a few more out-of-place items - including a feather, a snow white rock, and the “wishbone” of a Canada goose. The last bit I knew was a bone, but I wasn’t sure which one and from what. A bit of image searching came up with the result.

Some of the other jewels I found on the lake

Turkey Tail fungus, Helmet Skullcap, Spotted Wintergreen, and Green Arrow Arum.

Pretty darn good morning. :water_element: :droplet: :herb: :feather: :quartz_crystal: :lotus:

Edit to add information I found on one of the plants

Magickal Uses for Stormwater: Harnessing Nature’s Power

Stormwater is often perceived as an inconvenient byproduct of rainfall, leading to flooding and water pollution issues. However, within the realm of magick and spirituality, stormwater holds a plethora of meanings and potential uses. This article explores several magickal applications of stormwater, ranging from its symbolism in rituals to its practical uses in spellwork.

1. The Symbolism of Stormwater

Elemental Forces at Play

Stormwater is a rich symbol of elemental power, representing water and air—a combination of feelings, intuition, thoughts, and communication. This duality makes it an ideal medium for channeling energy in various magickal practices.

  • Water: Represents emotions, intuition, and healing. It is often used in rituals to cleanse and purify negative energies.

  • Air: Signifies communication, intellect, and clarity. Stormwater is infused with the winds that drove the storm, making it a powerful element for manifestation practices.

Understanding the elemental symbolism associated with stormwater can enhance your rituals and strengthen their effectiveness.

Seasonal Associations

Stormwater is particularly potent during specific seasons, especially spring and summer, when storms are most frequent. These times symbolize renewal and growth, making stormwater ideal for workings related to personal development, attracting love, or manifesting abundance.

2. Practical Applications in Spellwork

Cleansing and Purification

One of the most revered uses of stormwater is for cleansing and purification. Just as storms clean the air and nourish the earth, stormwater can be employed to remove negativity and facilitate a fresh start.

  • Ritual Bathing: Conduct a moonlit ritual bath using stormwater to cleanse your aura. Add natural ingredients like lavender or rosemary for added energetic benefits.

  • Cleansing Crystals: Submerge your crystals in stormwater to clear them of unwanted energy and recharge their metaphysical properties.

Cleansing with stormwater not only physically purifies but also revitalizes the spiritual essence of objects and individuals.

Enhancing Spellwork

Stormwater can significantly augment the potency of various spells. When incorporated into spellwork, it brings dynamic energy that can enhance intention setting.

  • Anointing Oils: Gather stormwater and mix it with essential oils relevant to your intention, such as lavender for love or eucalyptus for protection. Use this blend to anoint candles or talismans.

  • Charging Tools: Leave your magickal tools or crystals outside during a storm to absorb the ambient energy. This method naturally charges them with the storm’s vibrational essence.

Using stormwater during spellwork not only aligns your intentions with nature’s rhythms but also vivifies your energy exchange with the universe.

3. Ritualistic Uses and Ceremonies

Stormwater Gratitude Rituals

Inviting stormwater into your practice can yield impressive results, particularly when combined with gratitude rituals. A simple but effective ritual involves:

  1. Gathering: Collect stormwater in a glass or ceramic vessel as it begins to rain.

  2. Offering Gratitude: Hold the vessel and express gratitude for the rain and all it provides—nourishing the earth, sustaining life, and its cleansing properties.

  3. Setting Intentions: After offering thanks, use the water in a spell or potion directly related to your intentions.

This ritual recognizes the interconnectedness of nature and any spiritual practices, reinforcing the importance of water in our lives.

Alignment with Lunar Phases

Stormwater can align harmoniously with lunar energy, especially during full moons when a storm is underway. Working with the energy of the storm and the moon can amplify your results.

  • Full Moon Offerings: Create a blend of stormwater and moonlight during a stormy full moon for rituals aimed at healing or protection.

  • Lunar Water Bottles: Collect stormwater and charge it under a full moon. This lunar-stormwater blend can then be used in future spells or magical workings.

By synchronizing stormwater with lunar cycles, practitioners can tap into heightened energies that promote spiritual growth.

Conclusion

Stormwater’s magickal potential is a rich source of energy and symbolism for practitioners. By understanding its elemental qualities and practical applications, you can effectively harness its power to cleanse, charge, and enhance your magickal workings. As nature’s own form of empowerment, stormwater invites us to engage deeply with the natural world and recognize the beauty and potential inherent in even the stormiest of days. Remember, in exploring the depths of magick, nature often holds the key to our most profound transformations.

Using this AI is making me feel super intelligent!
