👏 WITCH CHALLENGE - Instant Magick

Merry meet,

Thank you once again to all those who joined in for the previous Witch Challenge - Witch Codes :locked_with_pen:

After cracking codes and developing secret ciphers, we’re moving on with the snap of our fingers. It’s time for some spontaneous casting!

The theme for this challenge was suggested by the clever @Nikki-Phoenix and is…

:hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed: :sparkles: Instant Magick :cyclone: :raising_hands:
Working magick in the moment

What is a witch without their tools? Why, still a witch, of course! Fancy things like crystals, Grimoires, herbs, runes, and more can all enhance spellwork, but they aren’t required for magick. Magick exists within us. It is always there, ready and willing to be summoned at your will.

This challenge doesn’t require any tools, specific knowledge, or even any prewritten spells. It encourages you to find and embrace magick in any moment, in a way that comes naturally to you. You might stir positive energy into your coffee or tea, welcome the wild energy of chaos, do a quick chant, make a sigil in the air, keep a favorite charm on your person, etc. We’re celebrating all the small but meaningful ways that magick can manifest in the moment.

So, how do you cast magick on the spot? Let’s explore!

Challenge Entry

So I carry crystals always. I choose them depending on what energy I want to work with that day. I have also learned how to visualize and direct my energy without the use of fancy tools. I also carry my tarot cards everywhere I go, so I never get stuck wishing I had them. I guess you could say I am always prepared for a witchy situation. I like to be spontaneous and in the moment in pretty much every aspect of my life. This challenge fits right in with my preferred lifestyle. I will be checking out some of the suggestions mentioned above to expand my knowledge though.

Challenge Entry - Instant Magick

Today was my first spring bird field trip at a new (to me) park and the weather was beautiful - a little chilly to start, but it warmed up with the sun.

It was a wonderful morning exploring the park, the trails, and watching birds. I’m always keeping an eye out for new flowers, trees, and shrubs as well, so I’m always looking around and marveling at the delights both big and small. At the turnaround point of the walk, I met a Blackhaw Viburnum ( Viburnum prunifolium) in bloom.

I can’t say that I’ve never seen one before, as I’m sure I’ve come across them, but I wasn’t really looking at the land and paying attention until a few years ago. I used my phone to look up the information on the plant and noticed its traditional and current medicinal uses. I decided I wanted to get a mold of its fascinating bark to add to my collection.

Luckily, at this point in my life, if I know I’m going to be going anywhere outdoors, I take my kit with 2-part molding material, plastic bags, and printed labels I fill out with all the data on the plant. Once the birding group returned to the parking lot, I grabbed my bag, but not before logging in to see what the new challenge was. Figured this was perfect, since I had no ritual tools on me - just me and nature.

Once I was back to the tree, I spent time getting to know the Blackhaw. Feeling the leaves between my fingers, seeing the flowers had scent, and resting my hands on its bark. Taking time to slow down, be in the moment, and open up to the tree and ask permission.

It takes about 25-30 minutes for the mold material to set, so I had time to enjoy the sunshine and listen to the birds singing in the early afternoon. My back was resting on the trunk, and relaxed as I passed the time when I heard the call of a Barred Owl nearby. Then it called again. And again. And one final time. Four calls on a bright sunny afternoon.

Planned and Unexpected.
Day and Night.
Root and Wing.
:deciduous_tree: :owl:

To hear a Barred Owl’s call similar to what I heard, click on the top Song link on the left on the Cornell Lab’s Barred Owl webpage below.

For more information on this plant's medicinal uses, it was easier for me to share a website than to type out information from my Medicinal Plants of the Southern Appalachians by Patricia Kyritsi Howell.
