Welcome to all of the witchy book-lovers here in the forum!
Book Club 55
ā Reading Session: December 2025 ā
ā Review Session: January 2026 ā
Thank you again to everyone who joined in for last monthās reading session! For those who havenāt yet shared their thoughts about their book (or anyone who enjoys reading book reviews!) you still have time to do so in 54th Spells8 Book Club - Readersā Reviews!
As of today, the 55th book club reading session has now begun !
Begin by announcing your book
The first post below is an editable wiki post- add your book title and name to the list! (instructions below)
Know that you have [[ the whole month ]] in this reading session
While it is great if you can finish your book during this time, it is okay if you break it into chapters or sections- do as much as you can and know that doing your best is always good enough!
As youāre reading, feel free to share your thoughts!
You are very welcome to share any thoughts or tidbits while you read in the comments below or in a new post in the forums. Just save the best parts for the final discussion at the end of the reading period!
Join the final discussion
When the month is over, a discussion post will open encouraging all readers to share a review of their book and any personal thoughts they have about it. A mini-review is perfectly fine, and there will be a suggested format for anyone who would like to write a longer review.
A note about sharing books:
While everyone is free to choose their own book, you may consider reading along with someone else ! It is fun to share thoughts and insights about different books and even more exciting to do in-depth about a book with fellow readers
If the book you plan to read is already on the list below, add your name to the list of others reading that book! Please keep in mind that everyone will reconvene and chat together in the Readerās Reviews discussion, regardless of which book you read
Spells8 Reading Room
The Spells8 Reading Room will open once a week for one hour to come together and read as a coven.
The Spells8 Reading Room is currently closed due to inactivity.
It sounds like this was an āokayā book. At least it wasnāt a complete waste of time! I hope you got something from the book that you didnāt know before.
Iām still slowing plugging away at my book⦠itās funny because I thought Iād have more time to read now that Iām on Winter Break, but that just hasnāt happened yet!
Youāll get there! Youāve been putting off stuff from around the house, probably, and you have to get that done, and get ready for Yuletide. Itās a busy time of year.
Thanks for the encouragement Iām trying to make some progress on it this morning before I take my daughter to school lol but itās been so long since I picked up this book that I feel like I have to start over
I think part of my issue is that itās been so long since I picked up this book that just looking at it feels like a failure I never got through the first few chapters even, so itās almost like itās taunting me. Iām actually going to put that book down and pick up a different one for now and see if I can finish it, or at least make some good progress. I will come back to A Shadow Witchās Grimoire when I have more time.
Iām starting a different one called Empath and Psychic Abilities for Beginners by Alyssa Vera. I think this is one I got from the publisher in an eBook format, so it will be easier for me to carry around and read. Itāll take the place of me picking up my phone randomly ā Iāll just pick up my Kindle instead lol
That looks interesting! I hope it holds your attention better. And yeah, picking up a kindle, or even downloading Kindle on your phone, is probably better than Doomscrolling or something.
How are everyoneās books so far? Hope youāre enjoying them
Itās time for a friendly reminder!
The current reading period will end on December 31st
A Readerās Review post will appear in the forums at that time for everyone to share their thoughts and hear all about what your fellow coven members have been reading.
Iām looking forward to hearing about your books- happy reading!
Ehhh itās okay ā thereās a lot of fluff in here that I donāt think is necessary, such as breaking empaths down into very specific categories: food empath, animal empath, etc. I also feel like, as with most empath books, it doesnāt quite get being an empath correct
Thereās a difference between having empathy and being an empath. The way parts of the book are written seem to conflate the two. You can have empathy while not being an empath, but you canāt be an empath without empathy.
Hereās an example of a passage that blurs the lines between empathy and being an empath.
But empathy is more than just sensing the emotions of others. It is also an invitation to truly listen, to offer a safe space for people to express themselves authentically. When we approach others with an open heart and a willingness to understand, we create a sacred container for their experiences. Through empathy, we forge deep connections, fostering a sense of belonging and unity in a world that often feels fragmented.
Does this all sound familiar? Then, youāre probably also used to the negative counterpart of being an empath. In fact, while this can be a beautiful and enriching gift, it is important to acknowledge that there can also be challenges and negative aspects associated with it.
As empaths, in fact, we have a heightened sensitivity to the emotions of others, which means we can easily become overwhelmed by the emotional energy around us. Absorbing and carrying the emotions of others can lead to difficulties in distinguishing our own feelings and in understanding and addressing our own emotional needs.
Anyway, I havenāt made it very far in the book and I may end up putting it down
Yeah, I mean, thatās confusing. I used to feel sorry for Scooby and Shaggy being scared when I was a kid. Doesnāt mean I was feeling anything from them!
Yeah, sometimes things like that just set your hair on fire. Best to find something new.
Iām an empath and I cannot ever put into words to explain to another human what that means or how it truly affects me, good and bad. I keep it to myself mostly. Iām reading a book called āThe Empathās Survival Guideā by Judith Orloff, MD and so far, I really like it.
Yeah, I feel like itās more complicated than it needs to be
I may finish it, or at least skim the rest of it, to see if thereās anything worth taking from the book. If not, itās getting a rating of DNF from me
I think Iāve heard of that one⦠Iāll add it to my list. Thank you!
Well, I finished the empath book today it wasnāt worth the time it took to read it, if Iām being completely honest. The new reader review post will be up tomorrow and Iāll share a full review lol
The few wonderful reviews already posted here have since been re-homed in the Readersā Reviews post to make them easier to find!
