Hmm, this should be interesting. Especially since we’re supposed to get another snowstorm this weekend. Joy.

Lots of ideas. I just slipped a container of snow into my freezer in case it melts before Imbolc! It has been very sunny here, though still cold

 I live in the SH in sunny Queensland Australia and we are in the middle of summer on top of that we never get snow where I live. So what do I do for this challenge?

You can use ice cubes, a popsicle, or ice cream! Lemonade with ice cubes would be a powerful joy spell in the Summer!

Good luck!

Challenge Entry - Snow Spells & Icy Magick

I’ll call this part one of my challenge, and it sounds like I’ll get another chance to work with snow and ice when this second winter storm arrives this weekend

But in the meantime, I did a bit of impromptu cord-cutting and energy reclaiming over the past 24 hours. One of my favorite things growing up in Montana was when it was really cold, and the ice formed a shelf above the concrete or asphalt. Something satisfying and cathartic walking over the ice and hearing it crack. I think I was late coming home from school more than once because I was cracking ice.

North Carolina doesn’t get as much snow as we did even 10 years ago but this past storm and then the huge temperature drop after the storms created the perfect ice for cracking. I spent at least 30 minutes last night walking and sometimes stomping on the ice, and while I was doing it, I realized I was letting out my anger and frustration with the longest month of the year, January 2026. With each step, I cut bonds that weighed me down, that made me small, that made me doubt my abilities. Each step, I let go of the bad and reclaimed my joy and my power.

I couldn’t stay inside again today and decided to take a chance that I could find enough of a cleared path on the Greenway to run some miles.

No such luck  but I went on anyway. Oddly enough, I had better traction in the icy snowpack if I was running than if I tried walking. I’m sure there’s physics in there that explains it, but :woman_shrugging:.

Turning a corner to one of my favorite places to run, one of the city’s municipal cemeteries, I realized they had snowplowed the roads, and they were dry and clear. I did come across a patch of that shelf ice and took advantage of it. Enjoy a bit of snow-cracking ASMR as I cut more cords and found more joy.

It rarely snows here in Eastern NC. I dislike the cold and usually move my craft indoors this time of year. As soon as it warms back up, I have an outdoor fire pit and altar i usually use for my magickal workings. I have an indoor altar as well, but it isn’t as extensive as the one outside. If we do happen to get snow this year, I will be saving some to use as moon/snow water in my spells. That is about as involved as the cold will get with my craft.

Merry meet all :candle:

I finally found the courage to participate in this challenge and this is my first time. With the Snow Moon in Cancer :cancer: (my own sign), alongside the returning light of Imbolc, it felt like the right moment to step out of the quiet and share something meaningful, with a little help from AI along the way.

:full_moon::snowflake: Snow Moon & Imbolc Chilly Spellwork

Moon: Full Snow Moon in Cancer :cancer:
Theme: Stillness, emotional safety, gentle awakening

:seedling: The Energy at Hand

The Snow Moon brings stillness, reflection, and emotional clarity. Falling in Cancer :cancer:, it turns our attention inward to home, safety, intuition, and the tender spaces we protect.

Imbolc marks the first quiet stirring of light beneath winter’s surface. This is not a time for force or full bloom, but for listening, nurturing, and allowing what is dormant to rest until it is ready to rise.

This challenge blends chilly spellwork lunar magic and Imbolc wisdom, honouring the pause while gently warming what is meant to grow.

:candle: The Spell: The Quiet Flame

Purpose: To release pressure, honour stillness, and create emotional safety for new growth.

You will need:

  • 1 white candle
  • A bowl of cold water (ice optional)
  • Pen and paper
  • One small personal or home-related item

The Working:

  1. Sit quietly and allow the stillness to settle.

  2. Light the candle and place the bowl of cold water beside it — flame and frost together.

  3. On the paper, write one thing you are releasing from pressure (not ending, simply allowing it to rest).

  4. Hold your personal item or place your hands over your heart.

  5. Hold the paper over the bowl and say:

By frost and flame, I honour the pause.
What rests now gathers strength.
I trust the quiet.
I am held. I am safe to soften.
From safety, I rise."

  1. Tear the paper and place it beneath the bowl.

  2. Let the candle burn safely for a few minutes, then close with a slow breath.

:crescent_moon: Lunar Divination: 3-Card Snow Moon Spread

Hold your lunar or tarot deck. Visualise moonlight reflecting on snow - bright, still, honest.

Card 1. What My Heart Is Protecting

What emotional boundary is serving me right now?

Card 2. What Is Stirring Beneath the Ice

What is quietly growing, even if unseen?

Card 3. What Will Feel Like Home Again

Where am I being guided back to myself?

After each card, note:

  • One word
  • One feeling
  • One sentence beginning with I trust

:notebook: Journal Reflections

Take your time with these prompts and allow intuition to lead.

  • What in my life is asking for stillness instead of effort?

  • Where have I been pushing when listening would serve me better?

  • What does “home” mean to me right now?

  • How can I nurture myself more gently as the light returns?

Optional:

  • If a guide or spirit ally appeared in the cold, what form would it take and what would it show me?

:fire: Closing Imbolc Blessing

“Under the Snow Moon in Cancer,
I honour my tenderness as strength.
What I nurture now will nourish me later.
As the light returns, so does my trust.”

:sparkles: Reminder

Stillness is an act of wisdom.
Rest is a form of protection.
Under the snow moon :crescent_moon: and Imbolc light, what is meant to grow is already finding it’s way.:sparkles:

What part of NC are you in? I’m in the Greenville area. We got some ice flurries the other day, but it didn’t stick and nothing even close to snow my way.

I’m not anywhere near ready for more snow. The parking lots here are already mountainscapes of white - if we get more, I don’t know where they’ll put it all!

That sounds like a great way to save your snow for the sabbat!

Woohoo - have fun! :snowflake:

Hi Julie! Amethyst has some great ideas about cold and ice magick that you might explore, and I’d also suggest utilizing the fridge and/or freezer. Moon water from any phase can be frozen to add ice energy to it, while freezer jar spells can stop negative influences in their tracks. “Chill out” spells use ice to help cool a situation down. There’s also the possibility to summon snow for magick by using an Inner Temple.

I hope those suggestions help kickstart your creative juices - good luck (and have fun)!

Love the crunch-crunch of snow and also that you’re finding joy - I hope the cord cutting is/went well for you

Finding creative ways to banish the cold is a fun way to take on this theme, and I can empathize! For the many benefits of snow/cold/ice, they certainly have their share of set-backs. My aching shoveling arms agree wholeheartedly

Thank you for sharing about how you creatively handle cold in your Craft, Carol!

It sounds like a very auspicious sabbat and full moon for you, carrianne! Thanks for sharing your entry - wishing you a blessed sabbat weekend! :two_hearts:

Central NC, the triad area. We had maybe a couple of inches of snow with winds creating snowdrifts, and then the rain made it an icy mess. Thankfully, highways and main roads are now clear, but my street won’t get plowed, so I’m grateful for AWD. We’ll see how much we get this weekend. :grimacing:

Challenge Entry - Part 2

With the forecast showing more snow, ice, and bitter cold coming, I decided to do a bit of protective magick for our home.

I had been meaning to find a way to use the runic protective symbol Tracy shared here and this felt the perfect fit!

Note: I had to enhance the contrast in the pictures as it was difficult to capture the carving in the snow.

Challenge Entry

The ice is within me. I have had a negative experience before, so I now struggle to face my fear.

Last May, there was a computer glitch which told me my rent was paid. I called the office. No one answered. I left a message that I thought something was wrong, could they please confirm my rent payment? No one responded.

In September, after I moved out, I was sent a bill that I had not paid my rent in August. The money was taken out of my deposit, but I still owed a 10% late fee. No mention was made of what form the company wanted that payment. To the company main website, I did send proof that I had paid my rent in August and asked someone to research what was going on. A message was sent that my message was received and would be answered. Nothing else has come since then.

On October’s payday, I took a personal check to the office and asked my driver to take a picture of me putting the check into the drop box. The check was never cashed. I get the feeling the company is withholding my check in order to ask the courts I pay even more in compounding interest.

I want this resolved, since the company can hold it over my head so I cannot get another apartment. Yesterday, I printed out my proof, and my driver and I are going to the courthouse this morning to get some answers.

Last night, I dug out a bag printed with owls for wisdom. My red cedar stick wanted to be used as a mixing wand- for protection and cleansing.

Into the bag, I put:

Catalpa- home, purification, success

Canna- release, balance, soul journey

Mint- truth, perspective, balance, purification

Allspice- success

Mulberry- wisdom, protection

Clover flower- success

Parsley- easing fatigue, protection, purification

Holly- protection, balance

Ash- wisdom, justice, stability

Sunflower- truth, knowledge

Radish- truth, detox

Honey Locust- truth, discernment

Oak- wisdom, balance

Bittersweet- truth, balancing conflict

Lotus- integrity, knowledge

Prickly Pear- preparedness, balance, protection

Rosemary- heals anger

Lavender- peace

Cinnamon- success, cleansing, speed

Basil- burn away negativity, renew, protect

Bay- legal issues, wisdom, success, wishes.

On the Bay leaf, I wrote my chant:

“An end to a legal issue

Wisdom, truth, justice, success

Freedom to move on.”

I apply to the wisdom of the courts.

I express the truth of my experience, backed up with proof.

I seek justice.

I wish for the success which leads to freedom.

Then I added an old key as a road opener, requesting, “Set me free.”

I wore a purchased “wisdom oil” made of jasmine and sandalwood. Not sure where the company got the idea of that combination, but it can’t hurt, and I’ll probably smell better than the scent of intense nervous stress.

The cinnamon sifted out of the bag, all over me while I mixed the ingredients with my wand. I simply rubbed it into my clothes.

I’ll be heading out within half an hour. If y’all don’t hear from me, this event is the reason. I have prepared for the worst to the best of my ability; and now, I shake with nerves, but I hope for the best.

The building managers are in Ohio this week. The sidewalks haven’t been shoveled since last Thursday, and most of the people living here are elderly or disabled. I don’t know if I’m gonna get out next week or not!

Update. No assistance, and very little advice. Basically, I have to wait until the company makes a move, and pray the judge allows me to show my proof- not a guarantee around here. Anyway, I’m here.

Those are some beautiful protective runes! May they help keep you home safe  :snowflake:

:hugs:

Oh goodness! I hope the managers or the town or someone cleans the sidewalks soon, and that any snow coming this weekend is less than they’re predicting! Maybe we’ll be blessed with some warmth and sun to help melt it all away (I can hope!). Stay warm and safe, Amethyst

Your spell is beautiful, Georgia, and I hope it will manifest positively for you! Perhaps this “freeze”, although not ideal from a waiting perspective, will help things fall into place and all the proof come to light as needed. Wishing you good luck! :two_hearts:
