☮ Weekly Witchy CHALLENGE - Practicing Peace

Merry meet!

Thank you once again to all those who joined in for last week’s Weekly Witchy Challenge - Catch-Up :clock7:

All previous challenges have gone back to rest and the challenge clock has started once again. Here comes challenge #221, but don’t be alarmed! This is a particularly peaceful one :relieved:

The theme for this week’s challenge is…

Peace Magick

:dove: :peace_symbol: Practicing Peace :olive: :relieved:

Whether it’s for yourself or for others,
How do you work with peaceful energies in your practice?

Peace is the absence of war - it is comfort, care, love, and stability. It may manifest in slightly different ways for different people, but it is a universal goodness that brings humanity together. And when it comes to magick, peace is a common intention to include in the Craft!

This week is all about exploring what peace means in your practice. How do you approach peace in your spellwork, manifestations, crafting, and more? Do you invite the energies of tranquility, or perhaps banish strife and negativity? Maybe you bring peace into your space, or set goals to bring peace into the lives of those around you.

However you work with peace, share those positive energies with your coven this week! :dove:

This week’s challenge is all about peaceful magick - how you choose to take on this theme is up to you.

Bwahaha. The Holy Spirit who I’ve worked with for, I don’t know how long, has just cleared off and Loki’s back, and now a Practicing Peace challenge comes up! Lol. Loki and HS are in cohoots with each other and they have a wicked sense of humour.

I’m going to have to work on how to meld Chaos and Peace now. What a challenge :joy::beers:

I start every morning with peace. My mornings always start with hugs and kisses from my dog Sybil.

Once I’m able to get away from her, I light a scented candle, usually a candy or coffee scent. Then make my coffee. While that brews I take my shower.

I have a shower ritual I do every morning. As the water runs over me I chant 3 times “out with the negative energy and in with the positive “ and end it with So Mothe It Be.

If I’m stressed when I go to bed at night, I use my peaceful dreams oil.

Peace
Peace is praised by the great poet Yiannis Ritsos

The child’s dream is peace.
A mother’s dream is peace.
The words of love under the trees
it is peace.

The father who returns in the evening with a wide smile on his face
look
with a zembili* in his hands full of fruit
and the drops of sweat on his forehead
it is like the drops of the pitcher that freezes the water on the window,
it is peace.

Peace is a glass of warm milk and a book in front of it
child waking up.

Peace is the clasped hands of men
it is the warm bread on the world’s table
it’s a mother’s smile.
Only this.
Nothing else is peace.
Yannis Ritsos

There are many forms of peace. Most people think of peace solely as the absence of war or conflict, but conflict comes in many forms as well. There are internal conflicts, environmental, natural, social, economic, health, familial, moral, spiritual, educational, financial… I could go on and on.

Let’s see if I can organize forms of peace a little better.

The first form I’d like to look at is the most basic. If we have shelter, food, clothes, and warmth, we can trust in a form of peace at the depths of our being. This form of peace is easy to overlook as we go about our daily lives, but it is a good foundation to start with. These are the basic human condition, the foundation of dignity and survival.

From there, we go to health. If we can get what we need to make life the best possible, we are building a peace which is difficult to shake. I’m not saying we have to be physically healthy to have peace. Rather if there are health issues, we need to be able to get supplies to deal with what we can deal with and get help when we need it. There is a peace of mind that comes with knowing I may be a fall risk, but having a button I can push to get help if I cannot get up or having someone check on me once in a while, just in case.

There is a peace which comes with knowing the objects which I use regularly will continue to work well when I need to rely on them. If I know my clothes washer will last me 15 years, I can plan on replacing that appliance just before it goes out so my life isn’t upended by the need for unforeseen repairs or replacements.

When I was 13, we had a really bad winter. It just happened that the furnace went out that year and repair people couldn’t come to fix anything because of backlog. That spring, Mom put a wood burning stove into the basement so that we would never have to worry about an outage like that again. It was a form of peace which pertained to having a back up in our back pocket.

Then there is the peace of a quiet evening cozied up to the fireplace reading a good book with a mug of hot cocoa.

We have the type of peace which comes from knowing we can express ourselves and be understood and accepted in a place like this forum.

There is the peace of knowing how we react to patterns, cause and effect, being able to affect life in ways which may not seem obvious to some. We know our magick works for us, with us.

Then there is the peace of knowing we have a connection to something bigger than ourselves which cares for us when we cannot take good enough care of ourselves. A peace of knowing things will turn out OK just because we lived the best we could and acted upon our beliefs, even if things beyond our control went haywire.

Umm… There seems to be a pattern, here. Each of these types of peace relate to one of the chakras. If one is out of whack, it seems to throw the whole system out of control. Each builds on another.

Challenge Entry - Practicing Peace

I found two wonderful videos from Yoga by Adriene. The first is an 11 minutes Inner Peace Mediatation

and the second is a 30 minutes yoga practice with a focus on Shanti, or peace.

Definintion of Shanti

Today I chose to do the 30 minutes yoga practice followed by the 11 minute meditation for my challenge.

Another helpful meditation that I like if Loving Kindness Mediitation or Mettā meditation which is part of the Maitrī in buddism. I found this video to share

This Challenge really couldn’t be more timely.
I have been feeling a lot of rage since the US election. So shifting my mindset and choosing peace js so important for me to focus on this week.
Alot of the time I notice that I am not choosing peace and acceptance when i want the present moment or situation to be different than it currently is. This is a disservice to myself, those I care about and the world.
I just got an email from a meditation teacher, Andrew Johnson that I like that is Scottish. He was offering free meditation on peace and i saw it as I sign and just finished it. I feel so much more rejuvenated.

Here is the link if you would like to download his app which is free and do the meditation.
I am going to make the commitment to do this daily for the next 7 days.
Thank you @BryWisteria for this challenge.
@georgia beautiful entry.
@Artemisia i will be doing this yoga practice.
Oh and one of my favite chants is loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu. Shanti shati om. It means may all being be happy and free every where. Peace peace.
I will be chanting this daily too!
Here is a beautiful song of it.

If it might help, I see this election as having been a collective event. I did what I could. It was all I could do. If others needed the lessons I did not, I can only lovingly allow them time to experience what they need to in order to learn what they need to learn. It hurts knowing that they will hurt, that I could have saved them from the pain, but they must learn their own lessons in their own time.

Now, what can I do to protect myself from their choices, to prepare myself for the wave of negativity I did not cause nor support?

The challenge will end on: Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 AM ET (Eastern US Time)

I haven’t had the motivation or mental space to write my own spell but I did find one on Plentiful Earth that I adapted! You can find the original one here (New Moon Internal Peace Spell).

The original spell is for a New Moon but I wanted to do it now. So, I just left that part out and went with my intuition as I made adjustments.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Peppermint Tea
  • Honey
  • A Tarot Card (choose one that represents your peace) *optional
  • White Candle *optional

Instructions:

  1. Cleanse the space and yourself to prepare for the spell. Use whatever cleansing method you prefer. I like to use sound and other smokeless methods.

  2. Begin brewing the tea as you sit in your space. Take a moment to ground your energy and center yourself for the spell ahead.

  3. While your tea brews, spend a few minutes meditating on what peace means for you. What is your intention with this spell? Are you looking for emotional peace? Spiritual peace? Physical peace? Make sure your intention is clear in your heart and mind.

  4. Light your white candle as you invoke peace. This can be as simple as verbally inviting peaceful energy into your space or as elaborate as decorating the candle with sigils and symbols while you chant. If you chose a tarot card, set it next to your candle at a safe distance. This card is a visual representation of the peace you’re creating.

  5. Your tea should be ready now. Sit in front of your candle with your tea in hand and repeat the following:

Peace without and peace within,
Brewed with love and care,
Calm the energy in my heart,
Release me from despair.

Ground my soul, restore my mind,
With tranquil light surround,
Let harmony exist in my spirit,
In sacred peace, I’m bound.

  1. Sip your tea in quiet contemplation as you allow the energy around you to calm into a peaceful lull. Visualize yourself surrounded by calming light and energy, gently swirling around and within you, calming any fears, worries, or anxieties you may have.

  2. When you’re ready, clean up the space around you and thank the herbs in your tea for their assistance.

In my practice, peace is something actively chosen. We will fight when we need to, but only to achieve peace and balance. When there is injustice, we work to correct it - think that common protest chant “no justice, no peace”.

Day-to-day, though, I feel peace when I hear my cat snoring next to me (as he’s doing right now), or smelling incense, or lighting tea lights at my devotional altar to both of my entities. I feel peace looking upon my statues of Bast, or hearing the uncommon California rain, or taking a sip from a cup of hot tea. These moments of peace are fleeting, but I treasure each one.

I am working more on finding peace within myself. It’s a hard process and requires me to work through a lot of trauma and do a lot of shadow work. But my deities and spirits are with me every step of the way…and thinking about that brings me peace, too.

Hi everyone!

I’ve heard from a few folks that they’ve got a lot on their plates right now - it’s been a high energy week, not to mention a busy time of year! In response, I’ve decided to extend this challenge another week. This way anyone who would like to join but hasn’t yet been able to will have some more time.

Whatever you are working through or embracing right now, wishing you peace and positivity :dove:
